Episode 37: All My Friends Are Sleeping with Each Other

This episode kicks off with a little World Cup banter before we briefly discuss the direction of Afrobeats, sparked by a song from Ef Moon. We also recap the previous episode before diving into the chaos of Caribana in Toronto, KP’s unforgettable forceful tipping encounter in Montreal, and our experience trying (and failing) to negotiate our very first podcast sponsorship deal. From there, we get into everything we’ve been watching lately, with Uzor reflecting on Call of My Life and seeing himself in one of the characters, while KP shares his excitement for The Odyssey and debates whether cinema subscriptions are actually worth it. The conversation gets even deeper as KP realizes all his friends somehow seem to be dating each other, before we emphasize our preferences in women. The episode wraps up with stories about the recent rise in thieves being caught across Nigeria, including hilarious memories of how theft was handled back in Covenant University. We also react to some of our favorite comments and fan mail from you guys, making this another episode packed with laughs, stories, and the kind of conversations that always go somewhere unexpected.Substack - https://aggyshwyl.substack.com/p/prescribed-vices-for-surviving-nigeriamedia?r=1ss1k9&utm_medium=ios&triedRedirect=true&fbclid=PAVERFWATiOVtwZG9mAmZkaWQWUMDJL9COqynluWRR8iuW0VY4Jl5xCmV4dG4DYWVtAjEwAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDzEyNDAyNDU3NDI4NzQxNAABp1Eq1f2lHYZl54CCzTV976GCtYpcn3bgwVzgoXryviIE5Wh3DZNm6oqXX9wG_aem_OhfVh2cGJP0aK9aZ219KNwJoin the Community:Join the conversation using #IGGFY and #IGetGistForYou, and follow us on Instagram and X @igetgistforyou.Hosts: @KpFawehinmi @uzxrmaIf you enjoyed the gist, please leave a rating on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, subscribe on YouTube, and share this episode with a friend!

Episode 34: Inconvenience Is Not The Price for Community

We’re back, and we’re drawing lines in the sand. In Episode 34, we’re tackling the fine line between being a supportive friend and just being a free service. If you’re still acting as your friend group’s personal Uber driver or unofficial event planner, this is your intervention—the gig is up.We’re also getting into the weird side of "community" and accountability. We’re debating whether the "No Child Left Behind" era created a generation of unaccountable adults, and we’re unpacking the collective trauma (and weirdly, the motivation) that comes with the "repeat year" experience in Nigerian schools.Plus, we’re asking the hard-hitting questions: Why is everyone suddenly obsessed with the "clubification" of fitness—what’s actually going on with this Pickleball and Pilates craze? And for the music heads, we’re settling the debate on why an artist’s debut album is almost always their best work. It’s another messy, unfiltered, and necessary conversation. Episode 31: Is There No Puff-Puff in Heaven?

This episode starts with us discussing the Michael movie —well, the 20 minutes Uzor actually stayed awake for—before he reveals the big news: his parents have finally discovered the podcast after 16 months of "Hannah Montana" living! Things quickly get chaotic when KP shares the story of accidentally eating a "spiked" cake and having to survive a full family photoshoot while fighting for his life while still blaming Uzor for not warning him properly. From there, we call out KP for becoming the exact type of gym content creator he once complained about after his weight loss journey, before getting into debates around kissing parents or kids on the lips and the strange culture of Nigerian stand-up comedy shows constantly turning into public fundraising events. We also unpack relationship discourse surrounding Megan & Klay and Indiyah & Dami, highlighting how people usually side with whoever they already like in the relationship regardless of the actual situation. The episode wraps up with some truly wild takes and nostalgia as KP drops his conspiracy theory about Megan being a CIA agent, which somehow leads us into conversations about American Black prom culture, where society may have “gone wrong,” and memories of our own Nigerian prom experiences. We also touch on Nigerian stan culture and how intense fan behavior can get online, making this episode a hilarious mix of chaos, hot takes, and pure gist.
