Ask the Incumbent: Chris Canales | El Paso City Council District 8

When you're asking voters for another four years, the conversation changes. There are no longer just campaign promises to discuss. There's a record. District 8 City Representative Chris Canales joins me for The More You Know: Ask the Incumbent to talk about his time on El Paso City Council, the decisions he's made, the votes he's taken, what he believes he's accomplished—and what he still wants to get done. This conversation looks at what governing actually looks like once the campaign is over: making decisions with limited resources, weighing competing priorities, listening to constituents who don't always agree, changing course when circumstances change, and being accountable for the decisions you've already made. We also spend time talking about mental health and mental illness in El Paso, including homelessness, the Opportunity Center/Welcome Center, intervention before someone reaches a crisis, and how smaller nonprofits, grassroots organizations, advocates and people with lived experience can have a meaningful voice in these conversations. An incumbent has a record, and voters have the opportunity to examine it. Listen to the conversation. Verify the information.  Compare the candidates. Make your own decision. From Inside City Hall to the Ballot: Jesse Moreno | District 6 EPTX

Jesse Moreno has already spent years inside El Paso City Hall. Now he wants a seat at the Council table. In this episode of The More You Know, Jesse joins me to talk about what he learned working behind the scenes in City government—and why he believes that experience has prepared him to represent District 6 himself. We talk about what he believes District 6 is missing, taxes and City spending, infrastructure, economic development, transparency, working with other members of Council, and what it actually takes to move an idea from a campaign promise to City policy.  We also get into the other side of having City Hall experience: independence. When you've worked for elected officials and built relationships inside the system, how do voters know the decisions you make will be your own? Jesse gets the opportunity to address that question, criticism surrounding his candidacy, and what he wants voters to understand about who he is beyond any one issue. No endorsement. No picking a candidate for you. Hear them out. Look at the record. Ask questions. Then decide for yourself. Meet the Candidate: Pedro Fernandez Jr. | El Paso City Council District 6

What does it look like when someone asks voters to trust them with a City Council seat for the first time? In this episode of The More You Know: Meet the Candidate, I sit down with Pedro Fernandez Jr., candidate for El Paso City Council District 6, for a conversation about why he’s running, what he believes District 6 needs, and how he would approach the responsibility of representing the people of the district. We get into his background and experience, his priorities for El Paso, fiscal responsibility, infrastructure, economic development, transparency, the role of City Council, and how he would turn campaign ideas into actual policy. We also address some of the questions and conversations surrounding his candidacy and give Pedro the opportunity to answer for himself. This series isn't about endorsements. It's about giving voters more than a name on a ballot. Listen. Ask questions. Do your own research. Then make your own decision. I’ll bring the candidates.  You bring the questions. I Give a Shit… Now What? | Talkin w Ashlee and Indivisible the 915

You’re paying attention. You give a shit about what’s happening in your community. Now what do you actually DO about it? In this episode of Talkin About It, Katherine, Co-Chair of Indivisible the 915, along with Chelsea and Gilbert, join me for Civics Made Simple: Be About It—a conversation about taking civic engagement beyond the ballot box. We talk about what organizing and advocacy actually look like, getting involved when you’re nervous or don’t know where to start, peaceful protest, contacting elected officials, finding organizations that align with the issues you care about, and the many ways you can participate without being the person holding the megaphone.  We also get into an important question: Does one person really make a difference? Indivisible is openly progressive, so we talk about that too. This series has never been about telling you what political party to belong to or who to vote for. It’s about hearing different perspectives, understanding how civic participation works, asking questions, and having the tools to make your own informed decisions.  Because voting matters—but civic engagement doesn’t end on Election Day. Learn it. Find your people. Use your voice. Show up. Don’t just Talk About It. Be About It.  FOLLOW----> Indivisible The 915 on IG/FB: Indivisible.the915 🎙️ Talkin’ About It with Ashlee Real conversations about mental health, growth, and the stuff we don’t always say out loud. 👉 Resources & Everything Talkin About It: www.talkinaboutit.com 👉 Connect on IG: @talkin.about.it 👉 Share this episode—someone might need it today. Life, Pressure & Finding Your Way | Ashlee & AJ from BS Sports

What happens when you take away the microphones, the sports talk, and everything we're supposed to talk about—and just have a real conversation? AJ from the BS Sports Podcast joins Ashlee on Talkin About It for another conversation in our Mental Health Series. We talk about life, pressure, confidence, setbacks, relationships, mental health, and the different ways people deal with the things happening behind the scenes. Sports may be part of AJ's world, but this conversation is about much more than sports. We get into the pressure we put on ourselves, how our experiences shape the way we handle difficult situations, the importance of having people you can talk to, and why sometimes simply hearing another person's perspective can make you look at your own situation differently. Because mental health doesn't always have to be a heavy conversation. Sometimes it's friends sitting around talking about life, laughing, sharing experiences, and realizing we probably have more in common than we think. No lectures. No experts. Just homies having conversations about real shit and sharing different experiences. 🎙️ Featuring AJ from the BS Sports Podcast.
