    Chiseled part 1 - Jed Hill

    May 31, 2026 Chiseled by the Call  Matthew 4:17 (NIV)  From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."  Matthew 4:18 (NIV)  As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  Matthew 4:19 (NKJV)  Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."  1.  Following Jesus (submission to His authority)  2.  Being transformed by Him ("I will make you")  3.  Mission to others ("fishers of people")  He knows what's in you because He put it in you.  Matthew 4:20 (NIV)  At once they left their nets and followed him.  Bad habits have a cost; good habits have a price  Matthew 4:21 (NIV)  Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,  Matthew 4:22 (NIV)  and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.  Movements start with movement  Matthew 16:24-25 (NIV)  Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.  Matthew 19:29 (NIV)  And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.  Romans 12:1 (NIV)  Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship.  What do you need to leave behind to answer the call of Jesus?   Acts 4:13 (KJV)  Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.  ★ Support this podcast ★

    May 17, 2026 Reframe Your Thoughts  1 Samuel 17:41-47 (NIV)  Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. He said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. "Come here," he said, "and I'll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!" David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."  [at 6:00 a mirror is brought to the pulpit] Who you talking to?  1 Samuel 17:17 (NIV)  Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp.  Heart of Humility  1 Samuel 17:26 (NIV)  David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"  Vision of Victory  1 Samuel 17:28-29 (NIV)  When Eliab, David's oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, "Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle." "Now what have I done?" said David. "Can't I even speak?"  1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)  But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."  Know your real enemy  1 Samuel 17:30 (NIV)  He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before.  1 Samuel 17:33 (NIV)  Saul replied, "You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth."  1 Samuel 17:38-39 (NIV)  Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. "I cannot go in these," he said to Saul, "because I am not used to them." So he took them off.  Work your weapon   Psalms 20:7 (NIV)  Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.  1 Samuel 17:40 (NIV)  Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.  1 Samuel 17:42 (NIV)  He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him.  Throw the NAME  Philippians 4:4-9 (NIV)  Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.     May 10, 2026 Recognize Your Reality  John 16:33 (NIV)  "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."  James 1:2-4 (NIV)  Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  Matthew 8:2 (NIV)  A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."  Matthew 8:5-6 (NIV)  When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. "Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly."  Matthew 8:16 (NIV)  When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.  Matthew 9:2 (NIV)  Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."  Matthew 9:18 (NIV)  While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, "My daughter has just died. Practice Vulnerability  Mark 2:3-5 (NIV)  Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, "Son, your sins are forgiven."  Proverbs 18:24a (NIV)  One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,  Romans 12:2 (NIV)  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.  2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)  if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  Practical Steps to KEEP PRESSING FORWARD and get out of it: 4. Practice Biblical Meditation  2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NIV)  We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.  Joshua 1:8 (NIV)  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  Psalms 23:1-6 (NIV)  The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.   ★ Support this podcast ★

    Lost & Found - Jed Hill

    May 3, 2026 Lost & Found  Luke 19:10 (NIV)  For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."  Matthew 28:19 (NIV)  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  Luke 15:1-2 (NIV)  Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."  Lost like a sheep  Then Jesus told them this parable: "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, Luke 15:3-7 (NIV)  Lost like a sheep  ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:3-7 (NIV)  Lost like a coin  "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn't she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' Luke 15:8-9 (NIV)  Lost like a prodigal // Choice  Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them. "Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. Luke 15:11-13 (NIV)  Lost like a prodigal // Consequence  After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. Luke 15:14-16 (NIV)  Lost like a prodigal // Conscience  "When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.' Luke 15:17-19 (NIV)  Lost like a prodigal // Compassion  So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. "The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' "But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Luke 15:20-22 (NIV)  Lost like a prodigal // Celebration  Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.     Family Ties part 2 - Jed Hill

    April 26, 2026Covenant Love: Strengthening the Marriage Bond  Matthew 19:4-6 (NIV)  "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,' and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."  Every time you believe a lie you empower the liar.  2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV)  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.  Lies that weaken marriage:  Lie #1: I Can Change Him/Her  Proverbs 18:22 (NIV)  He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.  Ephesians 4:26 (KJV)  Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:  Lies that weaken marriage:  Lie #2: A good marriage is always 50/50  John 15:12-13 (NIV)  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.  Ephesians 5:25 (NIV)  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her  Ephesians 5:33 (NIV)  However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.  A man that loves you will always bring elevation to your value.  A woman who loves you always increases your respect.  Lies that weaken marriage:  Lie #3: Marriage is a contract  Matthew 19:6 (NIV)  So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."  Matthew 19:7-8 (NIV)  "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.  1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.     Family Ties part 1 - Jed Hill

    April 12, 2026 Built to Last Proverbs 24:3-4 (NIV)  By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.  1. Start with God's Plan  Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)  Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  Genesis 1:28 (NIV)  God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."  Genesis 1:1 (NIV)  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Genesis 2:18 (NIV)  The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."  Genesis 2:21-25 (NIV)  So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,' for she was taken out of man." That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.  Genesis 3:1 (NIV)  Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"  Genesis 2:25 (NIV)  Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.  2. Steadily Build Every Day  Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)  "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."  Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)  Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.  3. Securely Pass Faith On  Deuteronomy 6:5-9 (NIV)  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.  Malachi 4:6 (NIV)  He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction."  Matthew 1:1-16 (NIV)  This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud, Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.  John 1:12 (NIV)  Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--  ★ Support this podcast ★

    Uncommon Hope - Jed Hill

    April 5, 2026 Easter at Bridge Uncommon Hope  John 11:1-6 (NIV)  Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."  When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it." Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,  John 11:2 (NIV)  (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)  John 11:19-20 (NIV)  and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.  Uncommon Hope 1. Reaches Beyond the Present  John 11:21-22 (NIV)  "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."  Joel 2:12 (NIV)  "Even now," declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning."  Uncommon Hope 2. Rest in God's Promises  John 11:23 (NIV)  Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."  John 11:24 (NIV)  Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."  Uncommon Hope 3. Relies on a person, not a plan  John 11:25 (NIV)  Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;  Uncommon Hope 4. Responds with personal faith  John 11:27 (NIV)  "Yes, Lord," she replied, "I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."  John 11:34 (NIV)  "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied.  John 11:33-36 (NIV)  When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"  John 11:37 (NIV)  But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?"  John 11:39 (NIV)  "Take away the stone," he said. "But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."  John 11:41-42 (NIV)  So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."  John 11:43 (NIV)  When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"  John 11:44 (NIV)  The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."  ★ Support this podcast ★
