Marco Ackermann : ADHD, Dopamine and Why Modern Life Feels So Overwhelming

Send us Fan Mail Are we becoming more connected or more lonely than ever? And what happens to our mental health when the pressure to perform never stops? In this episode of From Noise to Sound, Dimitrios Marinos leaves the usual podcast studio and visits psychiatrist Marco in his practice for an open and deeply personal conversation about mental health, ADHD, dopamine, loneliness and the growing influence of artificial intelligence. The discussion begins with a question affecting every generation. Why does modern life feel increasingly overwhelming? From the psychological impact of the pandemic to social media, constant comparison and rising performance expectations, Marco explores the pressures shaping our mental well-being. The conversation then turns personal. Dimitrios shares his experience of being diagnosed with dyslexia at 16 and the frustration of being perceived as lazy despite putting enormous effort into learning. Together, they explore why ADHD often remains undiagnosed for years, particularly among women, and how understanding the way our brains function can help us develop individual strategies and reach our potential. But ADHD is only part of the story. Why are we constantly chasing dopamine? From endless scrolling and gaming to impulsive shopping and food, Marco explains how our search for immediate gratification can influence our behaviour, concentration and everyday lives. The discussion then takes a provocative turn. If we have ChatGPT, why do we still need a psychiatrist? As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly accessible, could it make mental health support easier to access, or are we risking even greater isolation? Marco shares his perspective on AI as a tool, the importance of professional diagnosis and why genuine human relationships remain essential. Finally, the conversation explores loneliness, our declining willingness to interact face to face and the importance of maintaining meaningful connections in an increasingly digital world. Marco also shares what motivates him as a psychiatrist, how his own experiences of exclusion shaped his desire to help others and why reconnecting with nature helps him find balance. An honest conversation about the human mind, the pressures of modern society and the importance of understanding ourselves and one another. Because in a world where everything is becoming faster, perhaps what we need most is to slow down and reconnect How do today’s leaders cut through the noise and shape the future?

Genau hier setzt Barry’s an. Stattdessen gewinnen gesundheitsorientierte Freizeitaktivitäten an Bedeutung. How do today’s leaders cut through the noise and shape the future? Reto Birrer - Why Most People Start Financial Planning Too Late

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of From Noise to Sound, Dimitrios sits down with financial planning expert Reto Birrer to discuss one of the most important topics affecting individuals and families in Switzerland: long-term financial security. The conversation explores how people can take control of their financial future by understanding pensions, insurance, and real estate investments. Mirto explains why many people simply follow the financial decisions of previous generations without fully understanding the available options and highlights the importance of actively planning for retirement from an early age. A key takeaway is that waiting until retirement approaches is often too late—small actions taken in your twenties, thirties, and forties can have a significant impact on your future wealth and financial flexibility. The discussion also dives into the Swiss real estate market, addressing the challenges of rising property prices, low homeownership rates, and increasing rental costs. Despite concerns about affordability, Mirto argues that real estate remains one of the strongest long-term wealth-building assets, particularly when combined with smart pension and tax strategies. The episode examines different approaches to property ownership and investment, while encouraging listeners to think beyond traditional assumptions. Another fascinating part of the conversation focuses on the growing role of artificial intelligence in financial planning. While AI tools can help people educate themselves and access information more easily than ever before, both Jimmy and Mirto agree that human expertise, personal networks, and practical experience remain invaluable when making major financial decisions. Whether you're just starting your career, planning your retirement, or considering your first property investment, this episode offers practical insights on how to build a stronger financial future through informed decisions, long-term thinking, and early action. Andy Polaine - Why Customers Leave Even When Products Are Great

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of From Noise to Sound, Andy Polaine discusses the growing importance of service design and why it has become a critical capability for modern organizations. He defines service design as the creation of a coherent experience across all customer touchpoints, both visible and invisible. This includes everything customers interact with, such as websites, apps, stores, and support channels, as well as the backstage systems and processes that make these experiences possible.  Using examples from Apple and Airbnb, Andi explains how great service design makes interactions feel effortless, while poor service design creates friction, confusion, and frustration. Many service failures occur not because individual touchpoints are bad, but because departments operate in silos, creating gaps between channels and stages of the customer journey. These disconnects damage trust, increase support costs, and ultimately affect brand perception.  The conversation also explores the role of AI in service design. While AI can automate repetitive processes and improve efficiency, Andi argues that it cannot replace genuine human understanding, empathy, and judgment. Successful organizations will use AI to support services rather than disguise automation as human interaction. He highlights IKEA as an example of a company that used AI to handle routine support while retraining employees for higher value customer interactions.  Andi also introduces the Service Design Master's program, which combines human centered design methods, business strategy, and systems thinking. The program attracts professionals from diverse backgrounds including UX, product design, architecture, marketing, and brand strategy. He believes that as organizations struggle with fragmented experiences and increasing complexity, service designers will become even more valuable because they can connect business goals, technology, and human needs into a seamless whole.  How do today’s leaders cut through the noise and shape the future? Dr. Leonie Bode - The Longevity Revolution Decoded

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, we explore the growing trend of longevity and why it has become such a major focus in today’s health and wellness conversation, especially with rapid advances in AI and healthcare. Dr. Leonie Bode joins me to unpack what longevity really means. It is not simply about living longer, but about extending healthspan so people can continue doing what they love well into old age without prolonged illness. We discuss the balance between genetics and behavior, highlighting that while genetics matter, lifestyle choices can strongly influence how genes are expressed. This makes self awareness and informed decision making essential for long term well being. I also share parts of my own health journey and how learning to listen to the body can lead to meaningful behavioral changes. A major part of the conversation focuses on technology, particularly wearables and health data analytics. We examine both the benefits and the risks of constant health tracking. While these tools can provide valuable insights, they can also become overwhelming if data is not interpreted thoughtfully and personalized to the individual. We also discuss the changing nature of medical advice in the age of social media and generative AI. While AI offers powerful opportunities to identify patterns in health data, we stress the importance of combining these insights with medical expertise and critical thinking. Mental well being is another central theme. Stress, pressure, and emotional health play a major role in longevity and quality of life, alongside physical health. We reflect on how balance, enjoyment, and even occasional indulgence can coexist with a longevity focused lifestyle. Finally, we address accessibility in the longevity movement and how technology can help democratize health knowledge and tools. The episode closes with Leonie’s personal story and a powerful reminder that longevity is not a distant dream but an achievable reality built on awareness, informed choices, and intelligent use of technology. Roger Furrer - The Philosophy of a Game That Never Gets Easier

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of From Noise to Sound, we explore the evolving world of golf and its growing popularity in Switzerland. My guest is Roger Furrer, General Manager of Golf Club Lucerne and former professional golfer, who shares insights from both his competitive career and his experience leading one of Switzerland’s respected golf clubs. We begin by looking at how golf in Switzerland has evolved from being seen as an exclusive pastime to becoming a more accessible leisure activity. Roger explains how the COVID period accelerated this shift, as many people looked for outdoor activities during lockdowns. The sport experienced a noticeable surge in interest, attracting many new and younger players. Today Switzerland has around 100,000 golfers and roughly 100 courses, giving the sport fresh momentum. A key theme in our conversation is how the image of golf is changing. While it was traditionally associated with older generations, younger players are increasingly discovering the sport. Social media and changing lifestyles have helped reshape its perception, presenting golf as a lifestyle activity that combines sport, nature and social interaction. We also discuss the mental side of golf, which makes it unique among sports. Roger highlights the psychological challenge of the game, where players constantly compete against themselves. The mix of frustration, focus and occasional moments of success creates an experience that keeps golfers coming back. Beyond the game itself, Roger shares insights into the challenges of running a golf club in Switzerland, from high land costs to evolving membership models. Clubs today must balance tradition with modern expectations by offering flexible access, strong community experiences and welcoming environments. Finally, Roger reflects on his personal journey from a young athlete playing multiple sports to representing Switzerland internationally as a professional golfer. Today he uses that experience to help shape the future of the sport and inspire a new generation of players. How do today’s leaders cut through the noise and shape the future? Sven Spiess - Managing Family Wealth in a Changing Financial World

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I speak with Sven Spiess, a highly experienced finance professional with a background at institutions such as Morgan Stanley and Citibank, about the profound changes reshaping the banking industry, particularly in Switzerland currently heading a The Family Office in Zurich. We explore how automation and efficiency gains are transforming banking in ways similar to the industrial automation wave of the 1970s. Sven shares his perspective on rising inflation, global economic pressure, and why recent banking failures, including Credit Suisse, were driven more by liquidity issues than by a lack of capital. His insights highlight how risk management and liquidity discipline have become critical in today’s volatile financial environment. The conversation then shifts to the human side of finance. Sven emphasizes that emotional intelligence and trust remain essential, especially in wealth management and family office settings. As generational wealth transfers accelerate, understanding clients’ values and long-term goals is just as important as financial expertise. We also discuss the growing role of family offices as client-centric alternatives to traditional banks, offering greater alignment and fewer conflicts of interest. Finally, Sven shares his view on artificial intelligence in finance—seeing it as a powerful tool to enhance efficiency, but not a replacement for human judgment and relationships. The episode concludes with a forward-looking view on the future of banking, where success will depend on balancing technology, expertise, and trust.
