    KIB is looking into gamification

We sometimes call it serious gaming or exergames when we use games as a pedagogical tool, a way to exercise certain skills or as an aid in treatment in, for example in the case phobia of spiders. What does gamification mean to you? In this episode of the KIB podcast, we explore a few areas where gamification is used today, different points of view on it, how it is applied and what we see for its future. In the studio: Giulia Gaudenzi is an assistant professor in the Department of Global Public Health at KI and an affiliated fellow at the Division of Nanobiotechnology at SciLifeLab, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on advancing point-of-care diagnostics for low-resource settings, aiming to improve healthcare accessibility globally. Guilia is also very much looking forward to the release of GTA6). Philip Lindner is an associate professor of clinical psychology and head of the Digital Psychiatry Lab at the Centre for Psychiatry Research at KI, as well as a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in behavioral addictions. He is a recognized expert on Virtual Reality interventions for mental health and has led the development and scientific evaluation of several gamified interventions and serious games. He also studies how game mechanics are used in gambling, and how the distinction between gambling and gaming are becoming increasingly blurred. Patrick Manser is a Senior Research Fellow and Principal Investigator OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, Lecturer at ETH Zurich, and co-founder of Stepwave AG (in formation) focused on “exergame as medicine” research and innovation (until recently also affiliated KI). His vision is to transform “exergame as medicine” from a niche area of research into a reimbursable pillar of modern healthcare - empowering an ageing population to train to retain a high quality of life. https://www.patrick-manser.com/ Moderating this episode is Jennifer Salomonsson, librarian at KIB and one of the developers of the boardgame KI-spelet.
