Generosity Isn't Giving More. It's Learning to Receive

When I told my friend Veronica I saw generosity in her, she laughed: "Me? Generous? Really?" Many tie generosity to money. It's so much more than that. Veronica O'Brien has lived a lot of lives — nurse, surgery center director, real estate, and now building a tech startup with her husband. But her real work is pouring into women: mentoring, exhorting, drawing out the gifts God placed in her friends. This week's character trait is generous and this conversation will change how you think about giving. In this episode: Generosity beyond money: your time, your words, your presenceWhy time may be the most precious gift you can give in this seasonThe gold nugget you don't see coming: generosity means learning to RECEIVEWhen you refuse someone's help, you rob them of a blessing and yourself of loveLetting go of the dream house: what God taught her about holding things looselyLoving your literal neighbors: why missions starts on your own streetHer quick win: stop saying "no, I don't want to be a bother." Receive, and see what happens Your assignment this week: identify one person who has a hard time receiving love and show up for them — a random text, or better, an actual phone call just to say "I love you." Then come tell me in the comments what you did. Want to be mentored by Veronica? She'd love that. Message her on Facebook or reach out to me and I'll connect you personally. Why you don't feel like yourself

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, "When did I stop being me?" Maybe you've spent so much time trying to meet everyone's expectations that you've lost sight of who God created you to be. Maybe you're exhausted from wearing different masks in different places, saying yes when you want to say no, or feeling like your faith and everyday life don't quite fit together. In this episode, Andrea explores one of the character traits of the Proverbs 31 woman: integrity. Integrity is about far more than simply telling the truth. At its core, integrity means wholeness—living as one person no matter where you are or who's watching. It's about aligning your heart, your words, your actions, and your identity so you can live with freedom instead of performance. Throughout the episode, Andrea shares personal stories, biblical insight, and practical encouragement to help you recognize the subtle ways we become divided and how God calls us back to becoming whole. You'll discover: What integrity really means from a biblical perspectiveWhy people-pleasing erodes your identityHow fear causes us to hide parts of ourselvesWhy living authentically leads to greater peace and freedomOne simple practice you can begin today to live with greater integrity If you've ever felt like you've lost yourself, this conversation will remind you that God isn't asking you to become someone else. He's inviting you to become fully who He created you to be. 🎵 She used to be mind by Sara Bareilles:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53GIADHxVzM 📘 Order In Her Imagehttps://amzn.to/4aEmkJL Connect with Andrea🌐 https://andreajohn.com📘 Facebook: @OfficiallyAndrea📷 Instagram: @andreajohnauthor

Why Do We Wait to Be Kind?

When I was going through chemo, I noticed something I have not been able to unlearn since. The moment people found out I had cancer, their whole face would change. A pharmacy clerk would slow down. A cashier at Publix would mean it when she called me sweetheart. And I would drive home and wonder — why do we wait until someone is sick to be kind? In this solo episode, we sit with Proverbs 31:20 — "She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy" — and talk about the difference between polite and kind, why we keep a register of real kindness locked away for people we know are suffering, and what it would mean to live the other way. If you're a tired, devoted woman carrying something nobody can see — pull up a chair. ⏱ Chapters01:00 — The pharmacy clerk who changed everything04:00 — A cashier at Publix that gave me hope06:30 — Sitting with Proverbs 31:2007:30 — Two words that change everything: opens and extends12:30 — The lie about kindness most women believe15:00 — How God moves toward you (and what chesed means)19:30 — Three questions to sit with this week22:30 — One small practice25:00 — A benediction for the woman carrying something invisible27:00 — Where to go next 📖 Anchor verse: Proverbs 31:20 💌 Come sit at the table with us:Join the In Her Image community on Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/groups/inherimage 📚 Go deeper:In Her Image: A 31-Day Devotional Journey Through Proverbs 31 — available on Amazon. https://amzn.to/4eZFAEA Signed copies at andreajohn.com/resources #InHerImage #Proverbs31 #ChristianWomen #FaithPodcast #KindnessMatters #CancerSurvivor #ChristianWomenPodcast
