E79: In The Middle a Wake

Just 22 hours after Cal's mom passed away, we found ourselves surrounded by family during a wake unlike anything we'd ever experienced. People flew in from all over the country, and what unfolded was one of the most beautiful displays of humanity we've ever witnessed. This episode is about the strange, sacred space that exists the day after loss - where tears and laughter somehow live side by side. We talk about the healing that comes from being together, sharing stories, crying openly, and allowing every emotion to have a seat at the table. One of the most powerful parts of the conversation was watching the men in our family fully embrace their emotions instead of hiding them. There was no pretending to be strong - just honest grief, deep love, and a willingness to feel it all. We're also joined by Aunt Shauna, Cal's mom's sister and best friend. Seeing her sitting across from us - looking so much like Jana - made this conversation even more special. Together, we reflect on love, loss, family, and what it means to carry someone forward after they're gone. If you've ever wondered what grief really looks like, this episode is it. Messy. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Hopeful. And incredibly human. A quick note before you listen: In the middle of the emotional tornado surrounding thepassing, we sat down to record completely disheveled and forgot to plug in our microphones. 🤦🏼‍♀️ The audio isn't up to our normal standards, but after listening back, we knew this conversation was too meaningful not to share. Thank you for giving us a little grace - we promise the message is worth it. #MatureishMommas #GriefJourney #TheDayAfter #HealingTogether #AuthenticConversations #LifeAfterLoss #Family #Podcast

    E75: Advocate Like Daughter

Back in our day, it was called standing up for yourself. Now it’s called self-advocacy—and honestly, we’re glad people are talking about it. In this episode, we start by discussing the importance of teaching our kids to speak up for themselves, ask questions, and communicate their needs—even when it’s uncomfortable or involves adults. But the conversation quickly shifts into something much bigger. Caley shares the frustrating reality of navigating her mom’s cancer journey and a hospitalization filled with miscommunication, delays, and mistakes. What was supposed to be a critical step in treatment nearly became a complete waste of time because information wasn’t being communicated properly between departments and providers. This episode isn’t about criticizing healthcare workers—we have incredible respect and gratitude for the doctors, nurses, and professionals who dedicate their lives to helping others. It’s about recognizing the reality that today’s medical system is stretched thin, and sometimes the only person making sure everything stays on track is the patient or the family standing beside them. Whether you’re advocating for your child, your parent, or yourself, this conversation is a reminder that asking questions isn’t being difficult—it’s being responsible. Because sometimes the most important voice in the room is yours. #MatureishMommas #AdvocateLikeADaughter #SelfAdvocacy #CancerJourney #CaregiverLife #MedicalAdvocacy #StandUpForYourself #PatientAdvocate #MomLife #PersonalGrowth #WomenSupportingWomen #RealLifeConversations #HealthcareJourney #FamilyFirst #PodcastLife
