    86 I Comfortable Doesn't Build a Business — Desperate Does

What if the very thing making you feel safe is the exact thing keeping your business stuck? Hi friend, I want to tell you about the year I started smoking in the parking lot before I even clocked in for my hygiene shift. Not on the drive home anymore, where nobody would ever know. On the drive there. I had heart palpitations three mornings a week and I was turning into a version of myself I did not like and barely recognized. That was not a breakdown. That was desperation, and desperation is exactly what got me out of hygiene and into the business I run today. Here is what I want you to sit with this week. Comfort has consequences. Every month you stay comfortable inside your safety net, your business stays parked exactly where it is. I watch this happen constantly with trained therapists who have the skills, who know what to do next, and who still are not doing it. Not because they lack information. Because their dental hygiene paycheck is giving them just enough to tolerate the failure. Desperation is not the same as crisis. You do not have to wait until you are in financial ruin to decide that enough is enough. I set a five year goal to leave hygiene and ended up doing it in thirteen months, because the moment I got honest about what staying comfortable was actually costing me, waiting stopped making sense. Your safety net is not protecting you. It is the villain keeping you small, keeping you scared, and keeping you making excuses. In this episode I walk you through why comfort is the real reason your business is not moving, what desperation actually looks like when it is identity driven instead of financial, and what it takes to pull that safety net out from under yourself on purpose. This episode is for the trained myofunctional therapist who has done the work to get her training and is still waiting for the moment she feels ready enough to use it. 85 I Why You're Not Getting Myofunctional Therapy Clients — And Exactly What to Fix

Are you invisible and don't even know it? Hi friend, You finished your training, set up your business, and hung out your shingle. And then you waited. The clients didn't come, and you have been trying to figure out why ever since. Here is the truth nobody told you after you completed your course: finishing your training makes you trained. It does not make you visible. Those are two completely different things, and confusing them is the single most expensive mistake I see trained myofunctional therapists make. In this episode, I am breaking down the three visibility gaps that are keeping you stuck right now and exactly what to do about each one. We start with the Field of Dreams lie, the belief that if you build it, they will come. They will not. Visibility is a skill, and you have to build it on purpose. Then we go into the three gaps I am watching show up over and over in businesses right now: no clear ideal client, a website Google cannot find (and some of you have a no-index tag turned on and have no idea), and the inconsistency that looks like effort but produces nothing. I also walk you through the three fixes you can start on today, because none of this is as complicated as the spinning feels. This one is for you if you are trained in myofunctional therapy and you cannot figure out why the clients are not coming. Grab your ☕coffee and your courage — and let's dive in! 84 I How Much Can You Actually Make as a Myofunctional Therapist? A Real-World Breakdown

Is your income as a myofunctional therapist feeling inconsistent — and you're not sure if that's a pricing problem, a client problem, or something else entirely? Hi friend, I want to talk about money today, and I mean really talk about it — not the polished version, not the highlight reel, but the real breakdown of how income actually works when you're building a myofunctional therapy business. When I started my practice in 2017, I had no idea what was possible. I didn't come in with a revenue goal. I came in with one thought: I have to get out of this hygiene chair. My first year, I made around $28,000 to $30,000. My second year, I crossed six figures. By 2023, I had my peak year at $313,705, solo, no team. And in the year after that, I dropped by more than $200,000 — and that was entirely on me. I got comfortable, I stopped growing, and the business reflected that. I tell you all of that not to impress you, but to show you what's possible when you build with intention, and what happens when you don't. The income in this field is not fixed. It is not decided for you. There is no mayor of Myo Town setting the going rate, and anyone who tries to tell you what you can and can't charge is handing you their own money mindset drama. Don't take it. What actually determines your income is your pricing, your offer structure, and the way you think like a CEO. I would rather work with one $5,000 client than five $1,000 clients — same revenue, less time, more bandwidth to show up with excellence. A full calendar isn't the goal. A calendar that pays you well and still gives you your life back — that is the goal. If you're booked solid and still feeling broke, your prices are too low. This episode breaks down what I've earned, how I was trained to set prices, why that method is flawed, and what I actually teach my students to do instead: price for transformation, not for time, and build a structure that can sustain you. This episode is for you if you're trained and wondering whether this business can actually pay the bills — and what it would take to make it work. 83 I From Hygienist to Myofunctional Therapist: What the Transition Really Looks Like

Does your myofunctional therapy training feel like a secret you don't know how to talk about yet? Hi friend, The hardest part of going from dental hygienist to myofunctional therapist has nothing to do with the clinical content. You know the anatomy. You know the exercises. You know what you're looking for. The thing that actually stops the transition in its tracks is the conversation, and more specifically, not having it. In this episode, Carmen breaks down exactly why so many trained therapists freeze when it comes time to talk to potential clients, and what is actually standing between you and a practice that works. She walks through the numbers game that nobody tells you about — conversations are the whole thing, and the therapist who talks to more people creates more opportunities to say the words that change everything: "I can help you." She also gets into what kills the conversation before it starts (hint: it is not your clinical knowledge; it is the awkwardness that comes from not having your systems, your hours, and your prices in order), and the one belief shift that changes how you show up from here on out. Whether you are still in the chair and thinking about making the move, or you finished your training and have no idea what to do next, this episode is for you. 82 I The Real Cost of Building Your Myofunctional Therapy Business Inside a Dental Practice

What does it actually cost you to build your myofunctional therapy business inside someone else's dental practice? Hi friend, My guest today is Michelle, a trained myofunctional therapist who is about as Lola as it gets. She invested in herself, she did the work, and she built the life first business I talk about all the time. But before she got there, she had to learn a hard lesson the hard way. Michelle came to me already trained, but stuck in the gap between knowing and going. She knew exactly where she wanted to end up. She just did not know how to get there yet. So she invested in herself, built her own private practice, and started moving. Then something interesting happened. The dental practice where she had worked for years, the one that had never shown much interest in bringing myofunctional therapy in house, suddenly wanted in. A consultant pointed out how valuable she was, and almost overnight Michelle went from waiting for permission to being the specialist everybody wanted a piece of. So she said yes to both. She kept building her own practice, and she started building a program inside her employer's practice at the same time. That is where the real lesson lives. Michelle signed her first clients, real committed clients who paid for a full package. When it came time to actually get paid, she learned the hard way that building value inside somebody else's business does not always mean getting paid the way you think you will. She ran the numbers, and it was a gut punch. That is what we call building your house on rented land, and Michelle is here to walk you through exactly what it cost her and what she would do differently. This one is for every trained therapist who has been offered a spot inside a practice and is wondering if it is the shortcut it looks like. 81 I Myofunctional Therapy Certification: What You Actually Need to Know Before You Commit

Are you still collecting credentials, hoping the next one will finally make you feel ready? Hi friend, You have done the training. You have the skills. And you are still waiting for something to click into place before you start. I hear this every single week, and I want to talk about it directly, because the thing most people won't say out loud is that being trained and being credentialed are not the same thing, and neither one of them is what actually gets you clients. This episode is the honest conversation about myofunctional therapy training, what it means, what it does not mean, and why so many trained therapists are stuck in the same place after spending thousands of dollars. I hired an attorney years ago to research this question because I was being told dental hygienists had no business doing myofunctional therapy without a specific credential. What she found changed how I think about this field entirely. There is no governing board. There is no regulatory agency. And in her professional opinion, calling yourself trained with advanced skills in myofunctional therapy was actually more accurate than the alternative. What I am seeing in the real world is therapists who have done the coursework, maybe even have letters behind their name, and still do not know where to start. They cannot put together a therapy template. They do not have a niche. They do not know how to talk about what they do without it coming out desperate. That is not a credential problem. That is a business problem, and no training program has solved it for them yet. Letters do not make you a good therapist. The reps do. Working with clients, building your template, learning how to talk about what you do with confidence — that is what gets you good. That is what builds a practice. And that is the gap this episode is about. This episode is for you if you are trained, maybe even credentialed, and you are still asking yourself what to do next. 80 I Setting Up an Online Myofunctional Therapy Practice: The Business Diagnostic

Are you running your online myofunctional therapy practice on a foundation that can actually hold clients, or are you marketing on top of a missing base?  Hi friend, Most trained myofunctional therapists start in exactly the same place. They finish their training, they build a website, they set up an Instagram account, they start posting, and then months go by with no consistent clients and no clear answer for why. The problem is almost never the clinical skills. It is almost always a short list of business fundamentals that nobody covered in the training course, and most therapists do not realize they are missing them until they have spent years frustrated and quietly wondering if they made a mistake. In this episode, Carmen walks you through the exact business diagnostic she runs with every single student inside The Profitable Myofunctional Therapist before they do anything else. Marketing, visibility, content — none of it works until the foundational pieces are in place. This is your honest self-assessment: business name, structure, EIN, payment processing, website, offer, Google Business Profile, Google Analytics, and more. You will walk away knowing exactly where your gaps are and what to work on next. This episode is for the trained myofunctional therapist who is doing all the things and still wondering why nothing is connecting. Grab your ☕coffee and your courage — and let's dive in! 79 I Myofunctional Therapy Training for Dental Hygienists: Why You're Already Ahead

Are you a dental hygienist who has been sitting on the idea of myofunctional therapy, telling yourself you're not ready, not clinical enough, not the right fit? Hi friend, You are not starting over. You are adding something to the toolbox, and that is a very different thing. In this episode, I am breaking down exactly why dental hygienists are in a uniquely powerful position when they add myofunctional therapy to their skill set. The anatomy knowledge you have built over years in the op? That transfers. The way you communicate with patients, build trust fast, explain complex things simply, motivate behavior change in a 45-minute window? That transfers too. Your clinical eye, your documentation instincts, your ability to walk into a room and read a face? All of it transfers.  What doesn't transfer is the belief that starting something new means starting from zero. You are not starting from zero. You are starting from years of clinical experience that most people who want to do this work spend months trying to build. The only real gap is the formal myofunctional therapy training itself, and that has a very clear, very manageable solution. I also talk about why right now is the time, not because I am trying to manufacture urgency, but because the profession is genuinely shifting. The doctors who dismissed myofunctional therapy are being replaced by airway-focused practitioners who are actively looking for trained therapists to refer to and collaborate with. The tide has turned, and the hygienists who make this move now are getting in before it gets crowded. This episode is for the burned-out, bored dental hygienist who knows she cannot do this forever and is finally ready to figure out what comes next.
