    45. Hear Us Out: There's No Such Thing as Busy | Emily Cheney

I got to have this awesome conversation with life coach Emily Cheney about our personal perspectives on feeling “busy,” which is deep transformational work she’s done for herself and with clients. We look into what it means to stop automatically labeling our lives as busy and start looking at our time, choices, and responsibilities through a different lens. All within Emily's light, inviting, non-judgmental approach that is vital to considering new ideas. We talk about the difference between facts and stories, how to recognize the thoughts that keep us feeling rushed or overwhelmed, and a few options for how to reframe a “busy” life to create more space for choice, presence, creativity, and calm. Meet the Expert Emily Cheney is a life coach based in Utah who works with ambitious, high-achieving women who want to live their lives fully. Her work focuses on deep transformational coaching and helping women create the lives they want without relying on pressure, perfectionism, or the belief that doing more always means doing better. Listen for when Emily shares the mindset shift that helped her personally rethink busyness, including a powerful story from her college years about carrying a very full schedule.  Key Takeaways You don't have to pretend your calendar is empty or convince yourself that you have unlimited time. There can be a middle ground between “I'm so busy” and “I have endless time.” You don't have to change your thinking overnight. Start by noticing the stories you're telling yourself and experimenting with new ones. 44. Letting Your Soul Catch Up With Your Body

What if I told you the noise around us doesn't have to completely disappear for us to step away, slow down, and find stillness? I’m talking about a connection I made while walking my dog on a beautiful tree-lined path close to a loud street this past week that reminded me a lot of meditation and the way we can learn to separate ourselves from the mental noise around us. There will always be desirable and undesirable voices, opinions, information, responsibilities, worries, and distractions around us. But we can learn to notice them without making them our focus.  I’m talking about meditation, mindfulness, listening to your own voice of wisdom, and creating space to slow down even when life itself isn’t quiet. I think you’ll love the story I share at the end about some men who wouldn’t hustle because they were waiting for their souls to catch up to their bodies. Maybe you’ll have a spark about how you can do that for yourself if the situation resonates. Cheering you on! ANNOUNCEMENT: For the listeners that saw my IG stories, I said you would be the first to hear about my newest offer before it appeared on Instagram. My apologies that did not happen amongst some close family circumstances this past weekend!  The announcement is: I am running a group called The Time Collective that will meet October-December. I’ve been craving a mastermind experience of studying the art of time management, and I can’t wait to do it with other women this time of year.  I want to give a special offer to my podcast listeners, details to come. Message me with interest and we’ll make sure you’re down for the podcast bonus! 43. Failing Successfully: Experience is Experience

Experts often market themselves as experts because of how many times they’ve succeeded, what they’ve figured out works. That makes sense, we want to know that they know what works. However, sometimes we forget that how they figured out what worked is often by also learning a lot about what doesn’t work.  As the expert of your life, you’re learning a lot about what does and doesn’t work for you, for your family, for your career. You are the expert of your life because you are the most experienced in your own life. Both success and failure fall under the category of “experience” that are building blocks of growth.  Timestamps (00:00) Welcome and taking a pause together (00:47) The Loki and Thanos story (03:19) Looking at failure as valuable information (06:00) What came of my Christmas 2024 “failure” (14:47) Why evaluation creates a pattern for success (15:30) Thomas Edison and reframing failure (16:32) How to evaluate your own recent experiences (18:06) Recap and final thoughts Links & Resources Connect with Me on Instagram https://instagram.com/meaganhubbardcoaching DM or Email hello@meaganhubbard.com for details about the: Time Support 30min free coaching call  Time Glow Up 6-week coaching package  90 Day Total Time Transformation coaching package Why I say “Eat lunch and make new mistakes.” Season 1 Episode 1 of Permission to Pause: “Eat Lunch and Make New Mistakes” The story behind the why Keywords learning from failure, failure and success, learning from mistakes, how to learn from failure, overcoming failure, failure mindset, learning from experience, evaluating your experiences, personal growth, success through failure, how to turn failure into success, lessons from failure, growth mindset, learning and improving

    42. Your Emotional Baseline: Some Variability is Good and Normal

I have found that some of the basic concepts of a medical screening tool I use in my bedside nursing practice are useful as a framework to understand my own normal emotional experience without catastrophizing every down day. Because we all know some ups and downs are normal and even part of a good, whole life experience. Life would be kinda boring if we felt exactly the same 100% of the time, and we wouldn’t learn as much from our experiences and relationships. Healthy variability matters. Emotions are wonderful messengers about what we need, what we want, how we are doing. What I want you to pay attention to is where you're returning to most of the time. Are you able to recover after the hard moments? Do you have enough variability and reserve in your life? Or are you starting to feel flatter and more depleted? That is a guide for what support or intervention you might look for as a next step. Relating life concepts to labor and delivery is a fun and memorable way for me to remember what I’ve learned and teach what I’m learning. I’m coming to you unscripted today to share how I’ve been thinking about it lately and what were some helpful take-aways for me in hopes you find it supportive as well. Take care. 41. Celebration and Grief as Keys for Lasting Change

Sometimes we want to create a new habit, let go of an old one, or step confidently into a new life stage…but it feels like we’re trying to force our way through a locked door that won’t let us give. Two things have helped me to move through these transitions with more ease and grace, and they are celebration and grieving. Celebration is often not our first thought (even mine!), and grieving seems opposite, but it’s all part of the process. Sometimes we move through it without realizing those parts are there. And sometimes highlighting them is what makes what once seemed impossible, possible. Bring your current challenge and apply this, you won’t regret it. And if you don’t want to do this work alone, I have spots open for 1:1 that might be a good fit. 2.24 When Rest Doesn't Feel Good (And Why That's Okay)

If you've ever struggled to sit still without feeling like you should be doing something more "productive," this conversation is for you.  Let’s wrap up this impromptu summer series on Rest. It’s so funny how this happens. I’m recording this episode about the importance of rest, and then within 1 hour of recording I’m thinking that it’s too long so I should edit more, I remember a story that would be a WAY better example, and the idea pops in that I should re-write the outline and re-record during a time I’m not scheduled to work on it and publish it later… What a perfect opportunity to take my own advice I did share. “What’s done is enough,” my rest during non-work time is equally valuable, and my own value doesn’t come from a “perfect” episode. What I share isn’t bad, I do put in effort to create something worthwhile and valuable for you, and I trust that if you choose to listen to any of it, you will get something you’re looking for from our connection here. You are one of my favorite parts of podcasting! 2.23 Reframing Rest: How to Live More Rested (Not Just More Sleep)

Do you ever start to think that feeling rested simply means you just need more sleep (or less work)? Me too. But I think we both know it isn’t. It’s just one answer and often the easiest. That’s totally fine that our brains think of that first, and I’m curious enough to expand my “choose all that apply” options for living more rested. How about you?  I’m both realizing and remembering that what I want rest for is more than physical, it’s also mental and emotional. And while I love sleep as one way to restore and nourish oneself in all 3 areas, I turned to the 6 P’s to consider more healthy habits that promote living rested, even when sleep is not an option right now, when sleep isn’t even the underlying issue, or isn’t necessarily the needle-moving solution. I'm recognizing that in a lot of ways, rest has more to do with being able to tap into increased self trust and a parasympathetic response.
