FINDING PEACE DURING UNCERTAINTY Scripture: John 14:25–27; John 16:31–33; Psalm 46:1–10

Guiding Question How can courage help us live in peace as we wait on God in a world filled with uncertainty? Lesson Focus Uncertainty can make us anxious because we want answers before God is ready to reveal them. Jesus reminds us that peace does not depend on knowing what will happen next. Courage allows us to keep trusting Him even when life feels unsettled. As we wait, we learn to be still before God and believe that His presence is enough to carry us through what we cannot control. I have three points for today’s lesson: 1. Receive the Peace Christ Gives — John 14:25–27 Jesus gives us a lasting peace that does not depend on our circumstances being settled. 2. Find Courage in the Middle of Trouble — John 16:31–33 Because Christ has overcome the world, we can keep moving forward even when difficulty remains. 3. Be Still While You Wait on God — Psalm 46:1–10 Stillness teaches us to release what we cannot control and trust God while we wait. As I unpack today’s scripture, ask yourself this question: How can courage help me live in peace as I wait on God when my life is so uncertain? This lesson is brought to you by VT Adams Speaks—a progressive teaching series that centers Christianity on the way of Jesus, using scripture and mental health-informed principles to help believers grow deeper in understanding and stronger in purpose. Jesus knew His disciples were facing uncertainty too. Before their circumstances changed, He gave them something they would need to carry with them: His peace.

Caring for Your Mind and Heart

Guiding Question How can we care for our minds and hearts so that worry, unhealthy thoughts, and emotional pressure do not prevent us from living the life God has called us to live? Lesson Focus God calls us to guard our emotional and spiritual well-being by trusting Him with our thoughts and emotions. Caring for ourselves does not mean ignoring our responsibilities. It means recognizing what is happening within us. We can bring our concerns honestly before God. We can also become intentional about what shapes our thinking. God’s peace and wisdom can guide us through pressures we cannot control. I have three points to make for today’s lesson: 1. Rejoice Instead of Worry Philippians 4:4–7 Prayer gives us a healthy place to release the concerns we cannot control. 2. Think About What Builds You Philippians 4:8–9 We must become intentional about the thoughts and influences we allow to remain in our minds. 3. Guard Your Heart Proverbs 4:20–27 Guarding our hearts requires us to pay attention to what is directing our lives. As we unpack today’s Scripture, I want you to consider: What thoughts or emotions do I need to place in God’s hands so that I can care for my mind and heart more faithfully? This lesson is brought to you by V.T. Adams Speaks, a progressive teaching series that centers Christianity on the way of Jesus, using Scripture and mental health-informed principles to help believers grow deeper in understanding and stronger in purpose. Paul begins by showing us how to respond when worry threatens our peace.

    Embracing Healthy Transitions

Guided Question How can we trust God enough to release what has ended so we can embrace what He is beginning in our lives? Lesson Focus We cannot move forward while continuing to measure our new season by the one that ended. Healthy transitions require us to release the past and trust that God is still working even when the next step is not yet clear. Labor Day reminds us that our work has seasons, but our identity remains rooted in Christ rather than in our positions or accomplishments. An ending does not mean that our purpose has expired; it may be the place where God begins something new. Today, I have three points to make. 1. Release the Past Scripture: Philippians 3:12–14 Paul teaches us to stop allowing what is behind us to prevent us from pursuing what God has placed ahead of us. 2. Rely on the Promise Scripture: Philippians 1:3–6 We can enter the next season with confidence because God remains committed to completing the good work He began in us. 3. Receive the New Scripture: Isaiah 43:18–21 God calls us to recognize and receive the new path He is creating even when it does not resemble what we expected. While I unpack today’s lesson, I want you to consider: How can I trust God enough to release what has ended so I can embrace what He is beginning in my life? Today’s lesson is brought to you by V.T. Adams Speaks, a progressive Christian ministry that centers Christianity on the way of Jesus and uses Scripture and mental health-informed principles to help believers grow deeper in understanding and stronger in purpose. So, let’s begin today’s lesson by examining why every healthy transition must begin with releasing the past.

GROWING TOGETHER IN UNITY Ephesians 4:1–6, 11–16; Ecclesiastes 4:9–12

Guiding Question How can I collaborate God’s way, become an active part of the Christian body, and still remain who God created me to be? Lesson Focus We grow stronger when we grow together in Christ. That does not mean everyone has to think alike or do everything the same way. Unity is not sameness. It is learning how to bring who we are into a shared purpose while also making room for what somebody else brings. Sometimes that is difficult because we naturally protect our own ideas, our own place, and our own way of doing things. But spiritual growth teaches us that we do not have to compete in order to matter. We can know our value and still value somebody else. We can bring our gifts and still receive from another person. And we can depend on God while allowing Him to work through the people He places around us. I Have Three Points to Make for Today’s Lesson Point One: One Body, One Calling — Ephesians 4:1–6 We grow together when we recognize that our differences do not change our shared calling to live as one body in Christ. Point Two: Growing into Christ — Ephesians 4:11–16 We grow together when we use our individual gifts to strengthen the whole body rather than competing for importance. Point Three: Two Are Better Than One — Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 We grow stronger when we support one another and recognize that we were never meant to do everything alone. While I unpack today’s lesson, consider this question: How can I collaborate God’s way, become an active part of the Christian body, and still remain who God created me to be? This lesson was brought to you by VT Adams Speaks, a progressive teaching series that centers Christianity on the way of Jesus, using Scripture and mental health-informed principles to help believers grow deeper in understanding and stronger in purpose. So let’s begin with the foundation. Before Paul talks about our different gifts, he first reminds us of what connects us.

    Strength for the Long Road

Hebrews 10:23–25 Hebrews 3:12–14 Psalm 84:5–7 Guiding Question How do we keep trusting God when our journey is longer and harder than we expected? Lesson Focus Many of us have experienced seasons when life did not unfold according to our plans. We prayed for an answer, but the answer seemed delayed. We worked toward a goal, but the goal appeared farther away with every setback. We continued serving faithfully, yet we quietly wondered whether our efforts were making any difference. Long seasons of waiting can affect us spiritually and emotionally. They can leave us discouraged. They can increase our anxiety. They may even cause us to question whether God still sees us or whether tomorrow will be any different from today. The good news is that God understands those moments. Today’s scriptures remind us that He strengthens His people for the long journey. He teaches us to hold firmly to hope because He remains faithful. He places people around us who help us endure. He also provides the strength we need for each step, even when we cannot see the entire road ahead. God does not always remove the difficult road. Sometimes He strengthens us while we are walking through it. I Have Three Points to Make Today Hope That Holds — Hebrews 10:23–25 When the journey becomes long, God calls us to remain confident in His promises because the One who made those promises is faithful. Encouragement That Endures — Hebrews 3:12–14 God strengthens us through faithful relationships that remind us we are not meant to carry life’s burdens alone. Strength That Sustains — Psalm 84:5–7 True endurance comes from depending on God, who renews our strength as we continue moving through every difficult season. As I unpack today’s scripture, I want you to ask yourself: “How do I keep trusting God when my journey is longer and harder than I expected?” This lesson was brought to you by VT Adams Speaks—a progressive teaching series that centers Christianity on the way of Jesus, using Scripture and mental health-informed principles to help believers grow deeper in understanding and stronger in purpose. David and Elena did not know how their story would end. They only knew that each day required another decision. Would they continue trusting God, or would they allow disappointment to convince them that the journey was over? That is where our first scripture meets us today. Before we can endure the long road, we must learn how to hold on to hope.
