Anne Jones

The Anne Jones Show podcast is for the high-achieving woman who has the knowledge, the drive, and the desire — and still finds herself abandoning her own needs the moment life gets busy or full. Each week, Anne brings you honest conversations, nervous system education, and practical tools to help you stop abandoning yourself under pressure — and start building the self-trust and emotional resilience that actually stick. This isn't about becoming a perfect woman. It's about becoming a woman who stays with herself. The Hidden Cost of Being the Reliable One | Out of Overwhelm Ep. 3

You are not overwhelmed because you have too much to do. You are overwhelmed because of who you have had to be in order to keep everything running. In this episode, Anne unpacks the real source of chronic overwhelm for high-achieving women: not workload, but identity. Specifically, the identity of being the reliable one. The one who notices. The one who adjusts. The one who handles it quietly so nobody else has to worry. Anne introduces the concept of auto-accommodating from psychotherapist Terri Cole, explores Kara Loewentheil's research on over-responsibility in women, and shares real moments from the women she has coached, including a client who spent years convinced she had an anger problem before discovering her nervous system was simply running on empty. In this episode you will learn: Why overwhelm is often an identity problem, not a schedule problem. What auto-accommodating is and why it drains your nervous system even on ordinary days. The five hidden costs of being the reliable one, including the one that lands hardest. Why resentment is not a character flaw. What your body is actually trying to tell you when you feel irritable, exhausted, or shut down. The difference between being reliable and being self-led. If you have ever felt like you are disappearing inside your own life while keeping everyone else's together, this episode is for you. Why Rest Isn't Working (And What Your Nervous System Actually Needs) | Out of Overwhelm Ep. 2

You're going on vacations. You're doing the spa days. You're watching Netflix on Sunday. And you're still exhausted. This episode is not about needing more rest. It's about why the rest you're already doing isn't landing — and what's actually going on underneath it. In this episode of the Out of Overwhelm series, stress and life coach Anne Jones breaks down why high-achieving women can do all the "right" recovery things and still feel depleted, what your autonomic nervous system is actually doing when you try to rest, and why the real solution has nothing to do with optimizing your recovery routine. What you'll learn in this episode: Why your nervous system stays in low-grade survival mode even when life looks fine on the outside. The difference between sympathetic activation, dorsal vagal shutdown, and what genuine nervous system rest actually feels like. Why the stress bucket keeps overflowing no matter how much sleep, self-care, or downtime you add. The five types of rest — and why physical rest is the one we overestimate most. The question that shifts everything: why does your life require this much recovery? If you've ever come back from a vacation more tired than when you left, this episode is for you. Why You Feel So Overstimulated at the End of the Day

Do you ever move from work mode into mom mode, caretaker mode into partner mode, or productivity mode into rest without giving your body a second to catch up? In this episode of Back to You, Anne Jones talks about why so many high-achieving women feel exhausted, overstimulated, reactive, irritable, or like they can never fully relax by the end of the day. The problem is not that you’re bad at relaxing. It’s that you never actually transition. You carry one nervous system state directly into the next part of your day: work stress into dinner, caretaker energy into bedtime, productivity mode into rest, and then wonder why you want to hide, scroll, snap, snack, overwork, or stay up too late even though you’re exhausted. Anne shares how she first started using transition rituals years ago as an RMT before picking up her daughter from daycare, why tiny cues like a mindful shower, changing shoes, walking to the mailbox, or taking three breaths in the driveway can help your body shift gears, and how these small rituals teach your nervous system safety through repetition. This episode will help you understand why your body feels like it’s still carrying the whole day, how high-achieving women shape-shift under pressure, and how to create simple transition cues that help you stop dragging one role into the next. You’ll learn: why you feel emotionally fried by the end of the day how lack of transitions contributes to burnout, irritability, binge eating, doom scrolling, and late-night “revenge bedtime” behaviour why your nervous system needs a bridge between roles how transition rituals support nervous system regulation how to stop carrying stress forward into every part of your life how tiny, repeatable practices help rebuild self-trust If you’ve been telling yourself you need more discipline, better time management, or more self-control, this episode will show you a gentler and more effective place to start. Because you don’t need to overhaul your whole life. You may just need a bridge. If you want support applying this work inside your real life, Anne currently has space for one private 1:1 coaching client. The 5 Seconds Before You Abandon Yourself

In this episode of Back to You, Anne explains self-abandonment in the way most high-achieving women actually experience it: not as one dramatic life collapse, but as the tiny everyday moments where you override what you need, choose what feels easier, and then wonder why you don’t trust yourself to follow through. If you’ve ever found yourself doom scrolling when you meant to rest, snapping when you meant to pause, saying yes before checking in with yourself, stress eating, overworking, skipping the workout, ignoring your body cues, or starting over every Monday, this episode will help you see the pattern underneath the pattern. Anne breaks down why this isn’t a discipline problem, why your nervous system moves into protection when pressure, guilt, overwhelm, conflict, or exhaustion hits, and how protective behaviours can look like both hustling and hiding. You’ll learn how to recognize the micro-moment before self-abandonment takes over, why resistance doesn’t mean something is wrong, and how to start practising one small act of self-loyalty instead. This is for the woman who knows what to do, but keeps leaving herself when life gets loud. In this episode, Anne talks about: What self-abandonment actually looks like in real lifeWhy consistency feels so hard for high-achieving womenThe nervous system pattern underneath overworking, scrolling, snapping, and shutting downWhy discipline alone doesn’t create self-trustHow to catch the five seconds before the old pattern takes overThe “When I leave myself, I stay with myself by…” practiceHow tiny acts of self-loyalty rebuild trust with yourselfIf this episode resonates, send it to a woman in your life who keeps blaming herself for being inconsistent when she may actually be stuck in protection. Why You Know What to Do…But Still Don’t Do It

You know what to do. You’ve made the plans. You’ve started before. So why do you still fall off? In this short episode, I break down what’s actually happening when you can’t follow through and why it has nothing to do with discipline, motivation, or willpower. This episode is pulled directly from the course work inside Back to You — the exact framework I use to help women stop abandoning themselves and finally follow through in real life. Because the truth is...you’re not failing. You’ve been trying to build consistency on top of a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe. Inside this episode: why knowledge isn’t your problemwhat’s really driving your behaviour (and it’s not mindset)why you “lose yourself” when things get hardthe shift that actually helps you follow throughIf you’ve ever thought, “I know what to do, so why am I not doing it?” this will hit. If this feels like you, Back to You was built for exactly this. Waitlist opens Wednesday, April 15.: https://link.annejonescoaching.ca/back-to-you-waitlist-page You know what to do. Why You Always Feel Like You’re Doing Something Wrong (Even When You’re Not)

If you constantly feel like you’re behind, doing something wrong, or not quite getting it right…even when nothing is actually wrong…this episode will explain why. This isn’t about time management, discipline, or doing more. It’s about the invisible rules you’re still living by. In this episode, I break down why high-achieving women feel pressure even in calm moments, how internalized expectations create guilt and overwhelm, and how to start separating the rules you actually want from the ones you inherited without realizing it. You’ll learn: Why you feel “off” even when everything looks fine on paperHow internal rules create constant low-level guilt and pressureThe difference between rules you choose vs rules you absorbedWhy trying to follow all the rules at once leads to burnoutHow to start living with more clarity, calm, and self-trustThis is a foundational episode if you’re tired of holding everything together while quietly feeling like you’re never quite doing enough. 💙 NEXT STEPS If this resonated, there are two ways to go deeper: 1. 👉 Functioning on the Outside, Overloaded on the Inside

You’re showing up. Handling responsibilities. Doing what needs to be done. From the outside, everything looks fine. So why does life feel so heavy…exhausting…and harder than it should? In this quiet, deeply validating episode, Anne Jones speaks directly to high-achieving women who are fully functioning on the outside but overwhelmed on the inside. This isn’t a discipline problem. It isn’t a motivation issue. And it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It’s a capacity problem. You’ll learn: • Why everything feels harder when your nervous system is overloaded • The hidden “rules” many women follow without realizing it • Why pushing through often makes things worse • How stabilization, not self-improvement, creates relief • What it actually means to come back to yourself If you’ve been thinking, “I should be able to handle this,” this episode will feel like a deep exhale. 💬 PRIVATE SUPPORT Anne currently has very limited space for private one-on-one coaching.
