The Cyclical Doula Podcast: Fertility Awareness, Charting Cycles, and Reproductive Health Education

Emmamma

The Cyclical Doula Podcast is a space for honest conversations about cycles, body literacy, motherhood, and what it actually looks like to live in relationship with your body. I’m Emma — Your Cyclical Doula. I’m a certified SymptoPro Instructor, fertility awareness educator, miscarriage doula, and mom of two. I teach women how to chart their fertility signs, understand their cycles, and rebuild trust with their bodies — and this podcast is where those teachings meet real life. Some episodes are personal reflections on hormones, cycle shifts, charting practices, and the messy, tender realities of womanhood. But this podcast is also deeply rooted in conversation. You’ll hear interviews with doulas, educators, clinicians, wellness practitioners, and women with lived experience — people working across fertility, birth, hormones, nervous system regulation, mental health, and motherhood. Together, we explore what’s working, what needs to change, and what women deserve to know about their bodies and their care. These conversations are grounded and human, thoughtful dialogue about cycles, embodiment, informed choice, and learning to listen to what the body is communicating. Whether you’re postpartum, trying to make sense of your chart, navigating hormonal changes, or simply tired of being told your body is too much, this space is for you. Your body isn’t broken — it’s cyclical, communicative, and worthy of care. Let’s talk about it together.

Fueling the Body, Not Shrinking It: Nutrition, Cycles, & Breaking Free from Diet Culture with Paige

In this episode, Emma speaks with Paige Aberasturi, a registered dietitian and personal trainer who shares her journey from struggling with disordered eating and diet culture to becoming a nutrition professional dedicated to helping women fuel their bodies properly. Paige discusses how her personal experience of trying to change her physical appearance through restrictive eating and exercise led her to pursue formal education in nutrition and understand the science behind healthy eating. Throughout the conversation, Paige addresses common nutrition myths that affect women, particularly the "eat less, move more" mentality that ignores important factors like bone mass and muscle mass. She emphasizes that pursuing weight loss at the expense of muscle and bone health is counterproductive, especially as women age. Paige also discusses how restrictive eating affects menstrual cycles, leading to amenorrhea and other health complications. Key topics include: The difference between disordered eating and intuitive, nourishing eating, How diet culture impacts women's relationship with food and their bodies, The importance of understanding nutrition science beyond appearance, How restrictive eating affects menstrual cycles and hormonal health, Practical approaches to nutrition that support overall health not just weight loss, The role of vitamins minerals and fiber in women's health, Working with a registered dietitian vs unqualified nutrition advice, Insurance coverage for dietitian services. Meaghan Wamboldt, a functional nutrition practitioner specializing in gut health, hormones, and fertility, shares her personal journey of medical dismissal and self-advocacy. After struggling with secondary amenorrhea (no period for nearly a decade), gut issues, and infertility, Meaghan discovered that traditional doctors were missing crucial information. She discusses how functional testing—particularly the GI map—revealed significant gut imbalances that were directly impacting her fertility. Meaghan explains the connection between gut health and hormonal balance, why reproductive hormones are the first to shut down under stress and inflammation, and how addressing root causes through lifestyle changes can restore fertility.
