#39 - Genesis: Did God Really Say?

Who is this talking serpent and why does this seem totally normal for Adam & Eve? Is the serpent’s temptation for Adam and Eve to eat the fruit sanctioned by God? If it was, why was the serpent cursed to crawl on his belly? If it wasn’t crawling before, did it have arms and legs like a dragon? Did it pick the fruit off the tree with its own hands to prove that you couldtouch it? Where did Eve’s extra command to not “touch” the fruit come from? Was it Adam adding to Gods commands trying to protect his wife? Why wasn’t this lie the first sin? Why did the fall not happen when Eve ate it but after Adam did? Where was Adam when the talking dragon was tempting Eve? What would have happened if Adam refused to eat it? What if Adam repented immediately to God and didn’t blame his wife? How did this affect their marriage? Why place Cherubim guards at the gate of the Garden after kicking them out? If you ever wrestled with these questions, then this episode is for you. This is the 4th episode of our bible study through the bookof Genesis. Thank you everyone for listening. If you enjoy our podcast, please consider following or subscribing wherever you listen. #38 - Genesis: Made in the Image of God

What does “Let us make man in our image” mean and who is “us” ? Is it the Trinity or God & the angels in heaven? What is Gods image exactly? Is it how he looks, his personal characteristics, or his role and responsibility? If God is neither male or female, why would His “image” bearers be “male and female”?   Why does God make Adam from the dust of the earth, but Eve is made from Adam’s rib? Why not make them both from dust at the same time? Why make Eve from a rib and not another part of Adam’s body? Why did God have Adam name all the animals before Eve was created? Was he walking the earth for years naming all the animals? Were Adam and Eve married right away since marriage is mentioned right after she was created? If you ever wrestled with these things, then this episode is for you. This is the 3rd episode of our bible study through the book of Genesis. Thank you everyone for listening. #37 - Faith in Action: Invited to a Same Sex Wedding

Welcome to our first Faith in Action episode. This is an intermittent sermon series about what a Christian should do when our faith collides with modern culture. All Christians have non-believers they care about, and we want to navigate those relationships in a way that honors God. Our first episode centers around a Christian who has friends/colleagues that just entered a same sex engagement.   What should a Christian do if they are invited to a same sex wedding? Do you tell them why you can’t celebrate? Do they know what God says about it? What if the couple doesn’t even know your Christian? Have you been silent about your faith with them up until this point? Are they really friends if you never told them your Christian? What if they know and don’t care? What if they are your coworkers? Could you get fired for explaining why you cant go? If you go, would you be sending a message that God approves? Didn’t Jesus eat with sinners, tax collectors, and prostitutes? When is honesty hurtful and when is silence cowardice? What does God want me to do? If you have ever wondered what to do in this situation, then this episode is for you. If you enjoy our podcast, please consider following or subscribing wherever you listen. This will help us extend our reach so more people can be blessed by our conversations. Thank you for listening. #36 - Genesis: 6 Days of Creation?

Is Genesis literal or poetic? If it is poetic... what else in Scripture is poetic? If the creation account is just metaphor, then what about the resurrection? If the resurrection isn’t literal do we even have a faith left? Science tells one story about the universe like stars forming first, then planets, then life shows up. Genesis lays it out completely differently. The earth and plants show up before the sun... WHAT about photosynthesis?! Plants can’t survive without light. What was their source of light?! I feel like I’m in a position where I must abandon my science or my faith? I can’t reconcile the creation account to cosmology and it’s a serious obstacle for anyone with scientific training coming to the faith. I want to have an answer for this to defend my faith. What am I getting wrong? This is 2nd episode of our bible study through the book of Genesis. Thank you everyone for listening. #35 – Genesis: God Created

Who wrote Genesis? How was that story preserved for millennia before it was written down? Why should we trust Genesis over other accounts from other civilizations? Why do flood stories appear around the world but with different details? How do we interpret the age of the earth with the new James Webb telescope images? How can earth be present before the sun?! How can we have plants before our sun!? How can birds and fish show up before land animals? Is our entire model of the big bang, galaxy formation, and solar system formation completely wrong? How do I reconcile my science that aims to measure the creation with the creation account that appears to oppose it? Will they ever reconcile eventually? Can my faith endure this test? This is the beginning of our first bible study through and entire book of the bible. Our previous episodes have focused on specific theology topics (systematic theology), but we felt convicted to do an entire bible study through Genesis. We are excited to pull this apart and wrestle with what God has for us. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy having these conversations. Thank you everyone for listening. #34 - Confession 101

Why does James tell Christians to “confess your sins to one another”? Why can’t I just confess my sins to God? Who should I confess to? My pastor? Everyone in my Church? Or only my closest Christian friends? What’s the difference between confessing sin, confessing hurt, or confessing that I disagree with authority in my life? What if the other person refuses to forgive me? Am I confessing to be healed? Or to put my hurts front and center for validation? How does confession strengthen marriages, families, and friendships? #33 - Communion 101

Why do Catholics believe that communion is the literal body of Christ while the Protestants believe its symbolic? Does it really matter for my sanctification what position I take on this? Am I missing the most important point of communion? How did Jesus do communion at the Last Supper? How did the early church take communion? How has the modern church adapted the practice? If you wrestle with the importance and meaning of communion, this episode is for you. If you enjoy our podcast, please consider following or subscribing wherever you listen. #32 - Women in Ministry

Did Paul really ban women from teaching in church? What does Paul mean when he says women are “saved through childbearing” and he doesn’t permit a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man? Why does Paul contradict this by affirming a woman in ministry as a deacon in Romans? If women can’t be a part of ministry, then what do we do with all the other women in biblical history like Deborah, Miriam, Hannah, the woman at the well, and the women who were the first ones to see Jesus resurrected? Why would God allow this to be so confusing in scripture to the point where it’s debated if women should be allowed in ministry? If you wrestle with these things, this episode is for you.
