Local Women Podcast - Lindsay Robinson

Postnatal Depression: Lindsay Robinson on Maternal Mental Health, Recovery & Hope | Local Women Podcast In this powerful and deeply personal episode of the Local Women Podcast, we shine a spotlight on postnatal depression and maternal mental health — subjects that still aren’t talked about nearly enough. Our guest Lindsay Robinson shares her experience of becoming mentally unwell during pregnancy, the two-year journey to finally receiving the diagnosis and treatment she needed, and the impact postnatal depression had on her life and family. She also explains why asking for help can be so difficult for new mums — and why getting the right support can be life-changing. Lindsay has since spent a decade campaigning for better maternal mental health services in Northern Ireland. She discusses the specialist perinatal mental health teams now operating across the five Health and Social Care Trusts and the long-awaited Mother and Baby Unit coming to Belfast, which will allow mothers requiring inpatient psychiatric care to be treated alongside their babies rather than being separated from them. Our host also shares her own experience of postnatal depression as the two women have an open, honest and at times surprisingly funny conversation about anxiety, intrusive thoughts, masking how you really feel, relationships, motherhood and the enormous adjustment that comes with having a baby. Most importantly, their message to other women is simple: if you’re struggling, it’s okay to ask for help. There is nothing to be ashamed of, and support is available.   💗 In this episode: • Lindsay’s personal experience of postnatal depression • Recognising signs during pregnancy and after birth • Why some mums struggle to ask for help • Anxiety, intrusive thoughts and masking • Treatment, medication and psychiatric support • The impact on partners and family life • Northern Ireland’s specialist maternal mental health services • The new Mother and Baby Unit coming to Belfast • Why we need to talk more openly about maternal mental health If Lindsay’s story resonates with you, please consider sharing this episode with another mum, partner, friend or family member who might need to hear it. Karen Harkin Hair Podcast - Episode 2

Episode 2: Hair Loss, Alopecia & Finding the Right Solution | Karen Harkin Hair In Episode 2, Karen Harkin gets into the reality of hair loss — why it happens, who it can affect, and the solutions now available for people who may have thought there was nothing they could do. Karen discusses different forms of alopecia, thinning caused by menopause and thyroid issues, and the emotional impact hair loss can have at any age. She also explains some of the specialist solutions available through KHG Hair Systems, from bespoke hair patches and mesh integration to medical wigs and custom hair systems. We also talk about one of the most sensitive areas of Karen's work: supporting people going through cancer treatment and chemotherapy-related hair loss. Karen explains why she encourages clients to come for a consultation before losing their hair, allowing her team to assess their natural colour, density, style and measurements so they can create something that helps them still feel like themselves. From helping a seven-year-old with a small area of alopecia to working with women and men who have lived with hair loss for years, Karen shares why this work is about much more than hair — it's about confidence, identity and giving people a little piece of themselves back. If you or someone you know is experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, this episode is well worth watching. ▶️ In this episode: • Different types of alopecia • Frontal fibrosing alopecia and thinning hair • Hair loss during cancer treatment • Medical wigs and bespoke hair systems • Hair patches for localised hair loss • Thyroid and menopause-related thinning • Why hair loss can have such an emotional impact • The solutions available when hair doesn't grow back • Karen's work with adults and children experiencing hair loss Subscribe for Episode 3, where we'll take a closer look at some of the wigs, hairpieces, patches and hair-loss solutions Karen and her team work with. #KarenHarkinHair #KHGHairSystems #HairLoss #Alopecia #HairLossSolutions #WomensHairLoss #ThinningHair #MedicalWigs #HairSystems #CancerHairLoss #HairLossSupport
