The Power of Being Seen. How One Woman Turned Struggle Into Hope

Send us Fan Mail In this heartfelt episode of Miles to Zen, Shannon sits down with Hieke Morton, founder of The Gathering Markit, an innovative nonprofit grocery store that is changing the way communities respond to food insecurity. But this isn't simply a story about groceries. It's a story about a mother who quietly struggled to feed her children while appearing to have everything together. It's about answered prayers, unexpected acts of kindness, the power of being truly seen, and how life's deepest hardships can become our greatest purpose. Hieke shares the remarkable journey that led her from Red Seal chef and high school foods teacher to creating a community model that offers families not a handout, but a hand up—restoring dignity while helping people build lasting stability. Throughout the conversation, Shannon and Hieke reflect on resilience, community, gratitude, the stories we carry, and the small moments that can completely change someone's life. If you've ever wondered whether one person can make a difference, this episode is your reminder that they can. In this episode you'll discover:  • Why dignity matters just as much as generosity  • The difference between a handout and a hand up  • How small acts of kindness can change the course of someone's life  • Why our hardest seasons often prepare us for our greatest purpose  • The importance of being truly seen—and seeing others Whether you're navigating your own difficult chapter, looking for hope, or simply wanting to hear an inspiring story of human resilience, this conversation is one you won't forget. If this episode moved you, please consider sharing it with someone who could use a little encouragement today. Intuitive Strategy & Creative Magic with Chris‑Anne Donnelly (Light Seer’s Tarot)

Send us Fan Mail On the Miles to Zen podcast, host Shannon Miles Halliday talks with Chris-Anne Donnelly—creator of The Light Seer’s Tarot—about weaving mysticism and strategy, creativity, and intuition into real-world work. Chris-Anne shares how she used oracle cards in brand strategy sessions with corporations, municipalities, and a major Canadian bank to help teams speak more honestly and flatten hierarchy, how that work led her to create The Sacred Creator’s Oracle, and her path from running a design agency to focusing on personal creative projects. They discuss early intuition, religious and mystical family influences, living in Chile and meeting her husband, working with Hay House after successful Kickstarters, designing a tarot deck that feels less scary, practices like hypnagogia and dream journaling, and the idea that “strange” creative impulses may be your assignment. What You Bring Into the Room, Presence, Sports Mindset, and the Invisible Backpack

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of the Miles to Zen podcast, we explore what it really means to bring something into the room, whether that room is a boardroom, a dinner party, a soccer pitch, or a moment in your everyday life. Fresh off delivering my What You Bring Into the Room: The Human Side of Business Development workshop, and with FIFA energy buzzing through Vancouver, we look at presence through the lens of sport. From soccer players who reset instantly, to Roger Federer’s “every point” mindset, to the magic of team energy in volleyball and the joy‑first approach of an NHL player — the greats all have one thing in common: they let go quickly and they stay connected to fun. We also explore the mirror theory, the NAC method (Notice, Accept, Choose Again), and the invisible backpack we all carry into every room. This episode is an invitation to become more aware of your silent signals and more intentional about the energy you bring into your life. If you enjoy this episode, please follow, share, or send it to someone who might need it today. Joy is NOT the Reward it is the Point

Send us Fan Mail In this heartfelt episode of Miles to Zen, Shannon Miles Halliday explores a powerful question: What if joy isn't something we earn at the end of the journey, but the very reason for the journey itself? Through personal stories of adventure, career success, health challenges, postpartum depression, creativity, and self-discovery, Shannon shares what it means to return to the truest version of ourselves—the part that existed before fear, expectations, and societal conditioning taught us to play small. Drawing on insights from Gay Hendricks, Brené Brown, the Dalai Lama, Daniel Pink, and Barbara Fredrickson, this episode explores: Why following your heart can be a rebellious actThe "Upper Limit Problem" and how we unconsciously sabotage joyWhat regret can teach us about the life we're meant to liveWhy creativity is far more than a hobby—it can be a lifelineThe power of human connection, presence, and meaningful conversationsHow joy impacts our health, relationships, and overall well-beingThe "rewilding of self" and returning to who you truly areWhether you're navigating a major life transition, recovering from a setback, questioning your next chapter, or simply longing to feel more alive, this conversation offers a reminder that joy is not a reward reserved for someday. The child within you—the one who knew how to laugh, create, wonder, and play—has never left. The path home may be closer than you think. 🎙 About Miles to Zen Miles to Zen is a podcast about curiosity, creativity, connection, personal growth, and the wild, beautiful adventure of being human. The Strange Ways Life Tries to Guide Us. Intuition, Courage, and the Human Experience

Send us Fan Mail The Strange Ways Life Tries to Guide Us Intuition, Courage, and the Human Experience with Doug Beitz Last week on the podcast, you heard the incredible story of how Doug Beitz sold his remote island scuba diving resort by raffling it off to the world. It was bold, unconventional, and somehow… it worked. But what became clear during that conversation was this: Decisions like that don’t come out of nowhere. There’s a way of listening to life, to intuition, to subtle nudges and patterns, that can lead us toward choices we never imagined ourselves making. So before we ever got to the raffle story, Doug and I went deep into the conversation underneath it all. In this episode, we explore intuition, synchronicity, invisible guidance, spirituality, meditation, patterns, signs, and the growing disconnection many people — especially men — feel from their inner knowing. Doug shares stories from his own life, including growing up with a father who lived what he calls “a life of quiet desperation,” how that shaped his path, and why he now helps men reconnect with intuition through his podcast and coaching work. We also talk about:  ✨ How intuition actually shows up in daily life  ✨ Synchronicities and signs  ✨ Meditation and learning to listen  ✨ Why slowing down matters  ✨ The connection between intuition and the body  ✨ Spirituality beyond religion  ✨ Fear, courage, and making unconventional choices  ✨ The unseen forces that may be helping guide us Whether you’re deeply spiritual, highly skeptical, or simply curious about the mysteries of being human, this conversation invites you to explore what becomes possible when we start paying attention. Trusting the Nudge: How a Remote Island and a Wild Idea Sparked a Courageous Leap

Send us Fan Mail Trusting the Nudge: How a Remote Island and a Wild Idea Sparked a Courageous Leap Host Shannon Miles Halliday welcomes men’s intuition coach Doug Beitz What do you do when you own a remote island resort and no one wants to buy it? Doug Beitz and his family found themselves in exactly that position running an 18-room scuba diving resort on a tiny island in Micronesia, with no clear way to sell it. And then an idea showed up. Not something you’d find in a business book. Not something anyone around him was suggesting. But it stuck. They decided to raffle the entire resort. In this conversation, Doug shares how that idea came together, the strange timing around it, and what it actually took to follow through on something that, at the time, felt pretty far outside the norm. We also talk about the balance between intuition and action because even when something feels “right,” there’s still a lot of work involved in bringing it to life. It’s a fascinating story, but also a really honest look at what it means to trust yourself when there isn’t a clear path in front of you. Next week, I’ll be sharing the first part of our conversation, where we go deeper into intuition, how it shows up, and how to start recognizing it in your own life.   00:00 Raffling a Resort 00:00 The Wild Idea: Raffling a Resort   01:10 Why Selling Was So Difficult   04:45 The Breaking Point   07:33 The Synchronicity That Changed Everything   09:57 Building the Raffle (14 Months of Work)   11:26 When It Went Viral   13:07 Lessons Learned (and Why They Kept It Quiet)   19:27 Nature, Reset & Perspective   23:17 Courage and “Green Lights”   26:06 Final Thoughts + What’s Coming Next     Check out our first podcast together that we did last year. What Dominic Boag Taught Me About Mediumship.

Send us Fan Mail Host Shannon Miles Halliday interviews UK medium Dominic Boag about his 20-year career in evidential mediumship and how service, integrity, and specificity can support healing through grief. Dominic recounts early intuitive experiences, his father’s sudden death when he was 14, and a first encounter with his father’s spirit that led him to a spiritualist church and two years of development circles. He explains what mediums do, how “linking in” works, and why mediumship is about giving spirit a voice rather than “proving” an afterlife. Dominic shares impactful moments from readings and demonstrations, discusses the emotional weight of the work and how he copes, and describes losing his sight at 18 to Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, which shifted him from clairvoyance to clearer clairaudience. The episode closes with advice about kindness, possibility, and details of his 2026 Vancouver and US events. 00:00 Mediumship Reframed 00:57 Meet Dominic Bogue 03:45 Early Intuitive Signs 06:47 Loss Awakens Spirit 10:10 Spooky Club Discovery 14:27 First Development Circle 17:12 What Mediums Do 22:17 Life Of Service 28:57 Tests And Breakthroughs 31:31 Unforgettable Spirit Moments 33:51 Sneakers Message Breakthrough 35:20 Grief Worth The Drive 36:26 One With The Water 38:35 Carrying The Emotional Weight 40:09 Integrity In Hard Passings 42:23 From Seeing To Hearing 48:39 Rock Bottom To Upgrade 51:09 Imagination Versus Spirit 53:21 Beginner Classes And Humor 55:37 Faith As Love 01:00:11 Tour Dates And Farewell 01:01:56 Podcast Outro And Links Dominic Boag: https://dominicboag.com/us/ Spiritual Alliance for tickets to events in May in North Vancouver:  https://spiritualistalliance.ca/event/visit-by-internationally-acclaimed-medium-dominic-boag/ Thank you so much for listening!
