Hosted by two guys who know a bit about music and nothing about wine, the Tasting Notes podcast is a weekly chat about both. Bryn and Jaff try a different bottle every week in a quest to understand the terminology and to be able to taste wine, rather than just drink it; as well as discussing all things heavy, extreme and alternative in the world of music. The Dammnation Special

Damnation festival is less than three weeks away so Bryn and Jaff decided to take the opportunity to give you their recommendations of must-see bands over the weekend! It's also the first time they've ever tried a non-alcoholic wine....let's just say, it performed exactly as expected....with the unexpected addition of pork. Hosted on Acast. S4 E2 - Lidl journey pt.1

After a few weeks of aimless meandering through the vineyards of the world, Bryn and Jaff are back with a new plan...sampling the offerings that can be found on the shelves of Lidl. Is this a public service...or possibly a public nuisance? This week Jaff gets a new catchphrase, the beverage thieves strike Scotland and Italy, Tony Tommi's fingers cause some confusion....and it turns out the word "sausage" vastly improves any band name. There's new music from Deafheaven, everyone's favourite vikings Amon Amarth, and Power Trip...as well as some ludicrous peasant-metal, some tech-thrash and plenty of black metal... This Weeks Releases Amon Amarth - The Allfather Awakens (00:37:50) Metal Blade https://amonamarth.bandcamp.com/album/the-allfather-awakens Johnny Marr - The Age Of Everything (00:42:08) New Voodoo https://open.spotify.com/album/52lzfH80ON0jSqt1NkKsOQ?si=iqS_RsESR2m7Swt4eltByw Deafheaven - At Work In The Fields Of The Bomb (00:46:03) Roadrunner https://open.spotify.com/album/7tIVbLtTqWrlTnoPiLLA1R?si=nmTVQcibSUaMIJTxBeeJQA Power Trip - Precinct 3 / Scavenger (00:49:51) Blue Grape https://open.spotify.com/album/3zPrUvKsKqARv9v1UOzS1d?si=VZvpEMGmQ1SXF9OjcNKozA Joe Hendry - Beyond Belief (00:51:18) WWE https://open.spotify.com/album/0HRZijtmFCa0LNfLNh4Fce?si=SWzE2elKQKWz_8wZNpU8CQ Dissimulator - Artifice Dissolves (01:06:22) 20 Buck Spin https://20buckspin.bandcamp.com/album/artifice-dissolves Netherwilds - Peasant Rising (01:10:57) King Volume https://netherwilds.bandcamp.com/album/peasant-rising Wolf Brigade - Howl From Underground (01:19:04) Metal Blade https://open.spotify.com/album/5FUxj31V6IQ2USXi2WUyFB?si=P2HjWC-OR6KBNPgpv3PDnQ Enterré Vivant - Kurogoku (01:29:39) Transcendence https://enterrevivant.bandcamp.com/album/kurogoku Ominous Covenant - Legacy Of The Dead God (01:35:46) Wulfhere https://wulfhereproductions.bandcamp.com/album/legacy-of-the-dead-god Unpeople - We Are Unpeople (01:39:22) Sharptone https://unpeopleofficial.bandcamp.com/album/we-are-unpeople Tårfödd - En Känsla Av Hopplöshet (01:48:01) Purity Through Fire https://trfdd.bandcamp.com/album/en-k-nsla-av-hoppl-shet Lustmord Lombardo - The Pulse Of Atoms (01:49:07) Ipecac https://lustmord.bandcamp.com/album/the-pulse-of-atoms Xasthur - Open To Misinterpretation (01:50:38) Prophecy https://xasthurband.bandcamp.com/album/open-to-misinterpretation Andrew Tuttle / Darren Cross - AT/DC (01:51:57) Room40 https://andrewtuttle.bandcamp.com/album/at-dc Werewolves - You're Weak and You Know You're Weak (01:53:13) Back On Black https://werewolvesdeathmetal.bandcamp.com/album/youre-weak-and-you-know-youre-weak Firtan - Helios (01:53:41) AOP https://firtan.bandcamp.com Servant - Lux Ex Inferis (01:54:13) AOP https://artofpropaganda.bandcamp.com/album/lux-ex-inferis Slumbug - Slumbug (01:54:59) Self https://slumbug.bandcamp.com/album/slumbug Bana Haffar - Ancient Future (01:55:59) https://banahaffarreleases.bandcamp.com/track/spirit-pouch Hosted on Acast. S4 E1 - Domaine Bousquet

After a brief moment (and some international meandering), Bryn and Jaff are back for Season 4! They're kicking off proceedings with an organic, Argentinian Malbec...will it be any better than their previous forays into organic wines? There's discussions about Devin Townsend's flatulence, Nicko hosts a big welsh curry night, it's Metal Hammer's 40th birthday, Slipknot continue to be Slipknot...and Jaff appears to have returned from Oz with a comprehensive knowledge of Neighbours... And on the music front, Anthrax have a new album, there's some bimbo-violence from New Orleans, a rather interesting slowcore record and many, many more! This Weeks Releases Anthrax - Cursum Perficio (00:39:24) Nuclear Blast https://open.spotify.com/album/66sInN5ejxo3K8Al4QDw3S?si=AozJkH6tSnCzS_jVLOTFig Godflesh - Decay (00:44:04) Relapse https://godflesh.bandcamp.com/album/decay Tom Morello - Everyone Gets Everything They Want (00:46:44) Mom + Pop https://tommorello.bandcamp.com/album/everyone-gets-everything-they-want Adam Wiltzie & Jóhann Jóhannsson - Friendship Survival Guide (00:51:22) Deutsche Grammophon https://adamwiltzie.bandcamp.com/album/friendship-survival-guide Rorcal - Mahre (00:57:21) Hummus Records https://rorcal.bandcamp.com/album/mahre The Ocean - Solaris (01:06:05) Pelagic https://theocean.bandcamp.com/album/solaris Storefront Church - Blue Movie (01:12:57) High Room https://storefrontchurchmusic.bandcamp.com/album/blue-movie BRAT - Manslayer (01:24:08) Prosthetic https://brat504.bandcamp.com/album/manslayer Moloken - Moloken (01:28:26) Discouraged https://moloken.bandcamp.com/album/moloken Profeci - Troska (01:33:07) Godz Ov War https://profeci.bandcamp.com/album/troska Mr Bison - The Garden Of Forgotten Dreams (01:34:33) Heavy Psych Sounds https://mrbison.bandcamp.com/album/the-garden-of-forgotten-dreams Noctule - Extinguish Thy Flame (01:36:25) Church Road https://noctule.bandcamp.com/album/extinguish-thy-flame Theosophy - Line Before The Event Horizon (01:38:10) Apocalyptic Witchcraft https://theosophygroup.bandcamp.com/album/line-before-the-event-horizon Kongh - Dissolved In Time (01:38:53) Self https://kongh.bandcamp.com/album/dissolved-in-time Hosted on Acast. S3 E30 - Wine Of Australia...

Well...it''s a bit of a strange edition...Jaff is off barreling his way around Australia so in an act of solidarity, Bryn has chosen an Australian Chardonnay to sip on during this weeks episode. There's some questionable tour choices, an upcoming solo album from the one and only Pepper Keenan, a jobby in a moshpit....and that Slipknot single... And that's without mentioning the twelve incredible records that Bryn brings to the table...punk, death/doom, noise-rock...there's an absolute gold mine of new releases!! It's the end of the Chardonnay journey, and the end of Season Three! But, fear not, as Bryn and Jaff have a rather fine bottle of Chablis to round off the season! There's an ArcTangent roundup, discussions about 'smoke taint', a man forgets how to wear sunglasses, Jaff joins Poison and Bryn ponders the return of MySpace and our old chum Tom... A whole host of musical delights are provided as usual...from classical, to death grind, to jazz, post-metal and even a bit of drone thrown in for good measure! See you in season four!! Bryn and Jaff are back with another episode and this time they've got a Chardonnay from California...it seems that they actually enjoy Chardonnay far more than they initially expected! Jaff gives his rundown of Bloodstock, Sid is still not in Slipknot (we think), Paul McCartney shares a gem of wisdom....and there's rather a long discussion about spaff. And, of course, they both give their recommendations of must-see bands at ArcTangent later this week! This week there's been horror soundtracks, black metal, Canadian hardcore....and much much more! Plenty for you to get stuck into! Bryn and Jaff leave the winery's of South America behind them, which means it's time to get Jake back...and this time he comes armed with a bottle of Chardonnay from somewhere a lot closer to home! It's 'bye-bye' to Sid, Five Finger Death Punch continue to subject the world to the absolute dregs of the musical barrel, Bryn gets awfully cross about a TV remote, Jaff does unusual things to his lawn.....oh, and always remember to wash your bell tents in the bathtub!! Continuing on the recent trend of absolutely phenomenal music releases, this week sees two fantastic post-metal records, a funky fever dream from Bootsy Collins himself, and a collection of some of the most dissonant, avant-garde albums we've seen this year!! Bryn and Jaff have been having such a jolly time on their South American journey that they've decided to throw an extra week in and sample something neither of them have tried before....a Tannat from Uruguay! Jaff decides wine should be worn not drunk, there are some rather questionable pub guests and Bryn concludes that now is the time to buy a vineyard. There's been an absolute mountain of brilliant releases over the past two weeks, including (potentially) the best post-metal album of the year, some devastatingly unsettling black(ish) metal....and many, many more!
