Transform into Wisdom Podcast

Mariam Kavai, PhD, Post Traumatic Growth Teacher & Certified Trauma-Informed Coach

If you have ever wondered why you still don't feel free — even after you left, even after the therapy, even after you finally understood what happened to you — this show is for you. The Transform into Wisdom Podcast is hosted by Mariam Kavai, PhD — a Certified Trauma-Informed Coach and Post Traumatic Growth Teacher who speaks from both sides of this journey: as a researcher and as someone who has walked this path herself. This show exists for sensitive souls ready to heal from narcissistic relationships and dysfunctional families — beyond traditional therapy — and transform deep emotional wounds into wisdom, self-trust, emotional mastery, and lasting empowerment. What makes this show different: most content stops at naming the pattern — the narcissist, the family dynamic, the cycle of abuse.  This one goes further.  Mariam blends neuroscience, nervous system research, and depth psychology with spirituality and lived truth — so you understand not just what happened, but what is happening in your brain and body right now, and exactly what it takes to come home to yourself. Because understanding what happened to you is just the beginning.  Becoming who you were always meant to be — that is where this show lives. Science meets soul. Healing meets evidence. This is Transform into Wisdom.

24: The Sensitive Soul and the Soulmate from Hell. The Making of a Toxic Relationship

Find the full transcript for this episode at transformintowisdom.com/24 You felt things first. Deeper. Longer. More completely than the people around you.  And then you fell in love with someone who seemed to finally see all of that — who matched your depth, mirrored your longing, and made your sensitivity feel like the very thing that made you extraordinary. And then the relationship became the most painful thing you have ever survived. In this episode, we go into the biology of why that happened. Not from the angle of what they did — but from the angle of who you are.  Because understanding your nervous system changes everything about how you understand this relationship, why you were drawn in, and why healing is not just possible — it is, in the deepest sense, more accessible for you than for most. We explore the four biological dimensions of the highly sensitive person (the DOES framework), what fMRI brain scans reveal about the HSP nervous system — including the mirror neuron system and the insula, and the most important — and underreported — finding in narcissism research: why the narcissist knew exactly what you needed and still hurt you. This is science meets soul. Biology meets compassion. And it is the beginning of understanding yourself at a depth that makes healing not just conceivable — but inevitable. 23: Why Your Body Won't Let You Heal: Narcissistic Abuse, Trauma & Your Nervous System

Find the full transcript for this episode at transformintowisdom.com/23 You did the work. You read the books. You named the patterns. So why doesn't your body feel free? In this episode of Transform into Wisdom, we go deep into the science and biology of why narcissistic abuse creates such profound, lasting damage — not just emotionally, but neurologically. As a PhD researcher and someone who has walked this path, I want you to understand what's actually happening in your brain and body — because that understanding is not just intellectually fascinating. It is liberating. We'll explore what brain scans reveal about PTSD and C-PTSD, why narcissistic abuse is uniquely designed to dysregulate the central nervous system, the four phases of the abuse cycle and their biological signatures, why symptoms often intensify after the relationship ends (and why that's actually a sign of healing beginning), and why targeting your nervous system directly is the missing key in most trauma recovery approaches. This is science meets soul. Head meets body. Research meets lived truth. If you've ever felt like you understand your trauma but still can't escape it — this episode is for you. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why PTSD and C-PTSD are biological injuries, not character failings — and what brain scans actually show The H.A.M.C. framework: the three brain structures most damaged by trauma (hippocampus, amygdala, medial prefrontal cortex) and what happens to each one The neurological mechanics of the narcissistic abuse cycle — including why trauma bonding is a chemical process, not a choice What Polyvagal Theory tells us about the 'stuck' nervous system — and why neuroception explains so much about life after abuse The five evidence-supported pathways for nervous system healing: EMDR, somatic therapy, vagus nerve work, meditation, and co-regulation Why healing is not about staying calm — it's about developing flexibility Enjoy the Episode!  If this episode speaks to you, I would be so grateful if you left a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. 22: Part 2 What Actually Heals Narcissistic Abuse? Why Understanding the Abuse Isn't the Same as Healing the Wound

Find the full transcript for this episode at transformintowisdom.com/22 If you listened to Part 1, you already know that no amount of knowledge about narcissism will un-break your heart. In Part 2, I want to take you somewhere deeper. I want to talk about what comes after the research, after the therapy, after the EMDR sessions — after you have processed the trauma memories and your PTSD symptoms have quieted down.  Because that in-between place — that "what now?" moment — is where so many survivors get stuck. And it is where most recovery content leaves you standing alone. The answer, I believe with everything I know as a researcher and as someone who has walked this road, is this: you heal narcissistic abuse through the nervous system. T hrough reclaiming your body. Through learning — perhaps for the first time — to actually live inside yourself. In this episode I talk about why trauma therapy is essential and non-negotiable — and I mean that — but also why it is only one part of the journey.  I talk about what it means to face your feelings rather than flee from them, why so many of us have spent years living in our heads instead of our bodies, and how the gentle dialogue you have with yourself is the bridge between the wound and the wholeness. I also share something personal. A moment on a quiet weekend evening when I was sitting with my grief — and heard something in my inner ear that I have never forgotten. You didn't come here to be held down by this. You came to overcome this. That is what I want to leave you with today. If you are ready for the next phase of your healing — when the idea of a better life ahead feels bigger than the weight of the past — visit me at transformintowisdom.com. I would love to walk this next part of the journey with you. If this episode speaks to you, I would be so grateful if you left a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. 21: What Actually Heals Narcissistic Abuse? Why Understanding the Abuse Isn't the Same as Healing the Wound

Find the full transcript for this episode at transformintowisdom.com/21 There is a lie that floats around in narcissistic abuse recovery spaces — that if you just understand it enough, the pain will finally loosen its grip.  If you can trace the trauma, name the disorder, and decode the narcissist's mind, then maybe you'll be free. But no amount of knowledge about narcissism will un-break your heart. In this episode, I share a metaphor that will stay with you — about what it feels like to be hit by a train that never stopped.  The narcissist keeps moving, smooth and intact. The damage is not on the train. The damage is in you.  And that one realization changes everything about what healing actually requires. You'll hear why consuming more narcissism content can actually keep you stuck, why the brain's hunger to understand can work against your nervous system, and what it really means to turn the focus away from the person who hurt you — and back toward yourself. This episode also asks the questions that most recovery content avoids:  What emotional state were you in when you met this person?  What unconscious needs were driving your decisions?  And what is it in your own story that made you vulnerable? The truth will set you free. But first, it may piss you off. This is Part 1. We continue in Part 2. 18: (Part 2) 71 Years in the Making: Valerie’s Journey from Trauma to Healing

Find the transcript for this episode at transformintowisdom.com/18 When Valerie left home in her mid-twenties, she thought she was stepping into a new chapter.  But like so many survivors, the past wasn’t left behind—it showed up again, this time in the shape of a relationship On the surface, she looked like she had it together: a career as a teacher, a stable life.  But behind closed doors, she was living in a secret storm.  It was the same survival pattern she learned as a child: endure chaos, accept neglect, and convince herself that it was love.  What Valerie didn’t realize then is something many survivors eventually discover—that when the past isn’t healed, it doesn’t stay in the past.  It resurfaces, disguised as love, disguised as fate. And so, what began as a relationship turned into a mirror—reflecting all the buried wounds she thought she’d left behind.  And that’s where part two of Valerie’s story begins. She still rises each day with curiosity, passion, and a deep love for life — proving that healing isn’t bound by age, and growth has no expiration date. She is warm, patient, kind, and with a great personality!  Like so many women, her story began in a family shaped by both love and pain — a tapestry of warmth and joy interwoven with betrayal, violence, and trauma. And yet, she chose to keep walking, keep learning, and keep rising.  For the sake of her privacy, we kept her name anonymous, and we listen to her story of courage.  The only purpose of sharing her story is so that others who may be discouraged on the healing journey, may get the strength to continue.   She has given consent to record and release her story.  A gentle but important warning. This episode contains sensitive themes that may bring up strong emotions. What you’re about to hear is a personal story of trauma and healing, shared with honesty and courage. If you’re in an emotionally tender or vulnerable place right now, please consider whether this is the right moment to listen. By continuing, you are taking full responsibility for your own emotional well-being. Remember: you are in charge of your healing journey.
