Good Girl Gone Human

Holly Collins & Kristina Mancilla

Good Girl Gone Human is an ongoing conversation that explores what it means to re-humanize ourselves. After a lifetime of trying to be seen as “good,” Holly and Kristina are diving into the idea of what it would feel like to put that label down- and embrace the whole spectrum of their humanity. This conversation leans into the big messy questions, like: what are the risks of putting the good label down? What would happen if we did accept the whole spectrum of our humanity? They look at the ways we dehumanize ourselves in the name of being good and the tools they’ve found for reclaiming those parts of ourselves we deem “bad.” There is an invitation for anyone who has felt dehumanized to join the conversation and re-humanize themselves in community.

Ep 16: Going Beyond the Label: Embracing Our Innate Worthiness with R.G. Shore

This week Holly and Kristina are joined by R.G. Shore, author of the award-winning book "The Ocean Inside Me: A Spiritual Memoir on Healing Racial Trauma." Being born in the East but raised in the West was the beginning of R.G.'s relationship to liminal spaces. This idea of not fitting into any one space can be a lonely and isolating place; but the gift of liminal space is that there is more room to discover that you are never just one thing. Moving beyond labels is a painful process of discovering who you are not in order to discover who you are. Allowing these ego deaths is a part of the journey to rising again. While incarcerated, R.G. leaned into meditation as a way to connect with his inner child and heal his own wounds.  In meeting himself more fully, he was able to apply that inner work to those around him in prison. His stories of humanizing himself and others are powerful examples of how changes on the macro level often start at the micro level within each of us. R.G. Shore is also the founder of Northwest Wisdom, a non profit in the Pacific Northwest for embodied spirituality. Ep 15: Dance Moves for Humanity: Part 2 with Claire Margit

*This episode contains conversations around abuse, substance misuse, pediatric terminal illness, and cancer. This warning is simply to empower you with the knowledge you need to make healthy decisions about how and if you should consume this podcast content.  Claire Margit is back this week for Part Two of a vulnerable and honest conversation about being a human. Claire brings depth and story to her "Professional Human Protocol" - practical tools for navigating life. Using the metaphor of a dance floor, she connects each dance move/tool to a universal truth. The goal of these practices is to exist in a more neutral space to be able to move towards healing from a place of safety. While positive thinking directly impacts our health, Claire invites us to not bypass the hard in order to just "be positive." Our nervous system responds to truth so we focus on the truer thing when we are dealing with challenging thoughts. Claire's story is full of heartbreak and healing and she brings these tools as someone who has seen the profound impacts on her own life. Listening to Part One is recommended as it is referenced throughout this conversation. Ep 14: Wounded, Not Wicked: Part 1 with Claire Margit

*This episode contains conversations around abuse, substance misuse, pediatric terminal illness, and cancer. This warning is simply to empower you with the knowledge you need to make healthy decisions about how and if you should consume this podcast content.  This week Holly and Kristina are joined by Claire Margit for a beautiful and vulnerable conversation. Claire is a massage therapist and teaches a workshop called Cell Story: Where Science and Soul Collide. In this episode, she shares about the things in her life that led up to the culmination of her current work. Her journey with sobriety invited in a new sort of spiritual awareness and understanding of God. The idea that we are wounded, not wicked, changed the way she related to herself and others. Over time, she could see the story she told herself- that in order to be loved she had to be broken. A breakthrough day in her pre-med classes revealed to her the way that her biology believes the story she tells it. This idea that our thoughts and beliefs impact our biology changed her relationship with her body and the stories she told herself. Through personal storytelling and scientific facts, Claire invites us to recognize the relationship between our thoughts and our bodies. Ep 13: Relating to our Bodies: Simplifying Embodiment with Teresa Brenneman

This week Teresa Brenneman joins Holly and Kristina to talk about a key part of our human experience- the bodies we live in. She shares some of the tools that she's used to live a more embodied life, including the Human Design system. They discuss the idea of embodiment as buiding awareness in the body. Listening to the ways the body communicates with sensations and somatics is a process that can be started in simple and digestible ways. This process of building loving awareness helps us to build self trust. Teresa challenges the idea that a regulated nervous system should look like a calm body, recognizing that to regulate we actually have to feel and process the senstations that come through the body. This work of noticing our body can require some slowness and margin, but embodiment is not a destination to arrive at, but rather a journey of self discovery. Teresa is a Human Design and Tarot reader, the Director of Community at the New School of Human Design, and podcaster. Find all the ways you can connect with Teresa and her work below! Ep 12: Meeting Our Shadows with Gentleness: Sustainable Healing with Jes Lock

This week Holly and Kristina chat with Jes Lock, a Human Design Guide, Space Holder, and Podcaster. Jes shares her story of how corporate burnout initiated her into deep healing work, and how she became aware that she had transferred the same patterns that led to burnout onto her healing journey. This led her to meeting her shadow - the unconsious parts of her that were running the show. These awarenesses over time led her to the work she does now, which is using Human Design to get to know all the parts of ourselves, and to accept the gifts that our shadows have to offer us if we listen. Jes also shares her "5 Pillars of Sustainable Deconditioning", which is her process of engaging in healing shadow work in a way that is gentle and doesn't treat the human conditon as a problem to be solved. Rather, it's a journey of coming home to ourselves.    Jes guides people through this process in her work with Human Design, and has generously offered a discount for Good Girl Gone Human listeners who resonate with her and want to sign up for her course. She also has a beginner's guide to Human Design workbook. Links below!
