Drawing on my experience as a supermarket deputy manager, I explain how being discovered as a conspiracy YouTuber damaged my career, changed how coworkers treated me, and made advancement impossible. I argue that coworkers aren’t real friends in a competitive, profit-driven environment and can use your views against you to protect their income or get ahead, leading to HR problems, discrimination, firing, blacklisting, and lost references.
