    Designed for Life (Genesis 2)

Ever tried assembling IKEA furniture without looking at the manual? In college, we often approach our lives the same way—brute-forcing our sleep, work, and social lives, hoping everything somehow holds together. In this episode of Campus Light Sermons, Nick dives into Genesis 2 to reveal God’s original blueprint for human flourishing. Unpacking how we are created as both physical and spiritual beings, Nick details the "3 Rs" of human design: Responsibility: Human fulfillment isn't found in passive leisure, but in stepping into the meaningful good works God prepared specifically for us.Restraint: God’s moral boundaries aren't meant to restrict our freedom; like an instruction manual, biblical restraint provides the guardrails necessary for true human thriving.Relationships: Genuine community requires shedding our performance masks to be "naked and unashamed"—a relational transparency made possible through Jesus's forgiveness.

    Patterns and Purpose (Genesis 1)

As we move into House Church, we start our new message series in Genesis. Nick unpacks Genesis 1 to reveal how God’s design gives our lives ultimate grounding and purpose. Far from being a dry lab manual, Genesis is Hebrew poetry intentionally structured around sevenfold numerical patterns to paint a portrait of the Creator. Nick explores how God spoke the cosmos into existence out of nothing, establishing essential boundaries for flourishing—much like chess rules or the comedic danger of blending a chicken burrito into a Coke! Most importantly, just as expectant parents lovingly prepare a nursery before their baby arrives, God crafted the universe for humanity as the crown jewel of His creation. You are deeply loved by a Heavenly Father who gives you intrinsic worth and invites you to live with purpose on your campus.

The Acts 2 Church (Acts 2:42-47)

In this week's Sunday message, Pastor Jon brings us a message about the core characteristics of an authentic Christian church by referencing the biblical model found in Acts 2. We dive into the "original recipe" of the early church, which emphasized devoted discipleship, shared meals, and radical generosity. A central theme is the concept of a "family on mission," where members support one another’s physical and emotional needs while actively inviting outsiders into the community. Pastor Jon goes on to explain how a college campus provides a unique environment for this type of church to flourish due to the close proximity of students. In fact, this semester, we will be implementing "house churches" modeled after the first disciples to intimately study God's Word together and have honest dialogue for both believers and skeptics alike.

Thriving as a Disciple in College (Luke 10:1-9)

Moving into your new dorm, figuring out the bus system, and navigating the rush of syllabus week? Welcome back Rutgers! In our first message back, Pastor Jon unpacks Luke 10:1-9 to show us that college does not have to be a spiritual graveyard. Drawing on a powerful testimony from one of the church mentors and the psychology of the Asch conformity experiment's "true partner effect," Pastor Jon details how Jesus equips us to survive and thrive as lambs in the midst of wolves. We are not meant to face conformist peer pressures alone; we are sent out two-by-two as a countercultural, Christ-centered community to labor in a harvest field that is incredibly plentiful. Pastor Jon ends by challenging us not to spend our college years simply trying to blend in, but to step into the abundant life of a disciple sent to transform our campus.

Equipped in the Word (Acts 6-8)

Xunkai brings us a message on how the early church expanded through a new generation of leaders featured in the book of Acts. We explore the story of Stephen and Philip, two early church leaders and how they were equipped in the word: Stephen to challenge religious misconceptions and defend his faith during persecution and Philip to bring the gospel to marginalized groups and individuals from different cultures. As we enter into the summer break, let's commit to staying rooted in God's Word so that we are better equipped to fulfill the Great Commission.

Beyond Silver and Gold (Acts 3:1-10)

Jon brings us our message for our last Sunday on campus for the semester on Acts 3. We explore why silver and gold are often just cover-ups for our true brokenness and how the relentless cycle of chasing status leaves us more exhausted and lonelier than ever. Drawing from the story of the lame beggar and Jon's own testimony of hitting rock bottom, we discuss the power of Jesus-driven ministry—the simple yet profound act of making eye contact, extending a hand, and offering the only name that actually heals.

    The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20)

This week, Jordan brings us a message on the Great Commission and its role as our defining purpose for life after Easter. Jordan argues that salvation in Christ is inextricably linked to a calling, asserting that every believer is qualified to share the gospel regardless of our perceived inadequacies. By contrasting our small personal ambitions with God's grander mission of making disciples in all nations, Jordan encourages us to view ourselves as essential links in a historical chain of faith. The book of Acts also emphasizes that the church serves as a communal witness, rather than just a collection of individuals, tasked with reaching local and global communities. Ultimately, Jordan challenges us to move past hesitation and doubt to embrace a life of ministry through sharing our testimony to others.

    Peter's Reinstatement (John 21:1-19)

We finish our John message series as Jon brings us a message on John 21, the story of Peter's reinstatement after his denial of Jesus. Jon explores why we often run back to the "familiar" when we feel discouraged or disqualified, how Jesus handles our shame not with condemnation, but by inviting us into a deeper relationship, and the shift from an immature, self-serving life to a mature, sacrificial life marked by the call to "tend my sheep".
