Mexico Is Indigenous, Part Two: El Padrino Rises

Send us a text Last time, we traced how Mexico’s past built the world we see now. The old systems never vanished—they just changed names. Power shifted hands, but the structures stayed the same. This episode picks up in the mid-1980s, when a young man named Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo stepped out of Miami’s shadows and into Mexico City. He wasn’t a priest, but he carried candles, bones, and promises. He called himself El Padrino. From the crowded streets of Zona Rosa to the back rooms where narcos made deals, Constanzo turned fear into business. He offered protection, luck, and invincibility—for a price. What started as ritual and superstition grew into something much darker: a cult built on power, blood, and control. This is the story of how one man twisted an old tradition into a weapon—and how Mexico’s underworld believed every word. Three Years, Two Stories: The Lucifer Telescope and the Bigfoot Hotline

Send us a text It’s been three years — thanks for sticking with us. Without you, this show wouldn’t even be possible. For our anniversary episode, we’re going a little X-Files with it. First, we head down to Arizona and talk about the Vatican, the Jesuits, and a telescope on Apache land nicknamed Lucifer. Yeah, you read that right. A state-of-the-art observatory in the middle of a land dispute, wrapped up with questions about who gets to look at the stars — and why they needed a name like that. Then we jump to Washington state, where the Colville Tribes set up a Bigfoot hotline. Locals, hunters, and even loggers called in to report strange encounters in the woods. Some of those calls line up with stories the elders had already been telling for generations. Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales — three years in, thanks for listening!  Nightmares of the americas and the behill network are teaming up with the long hairs. Mexico’s Indigenous Heart

Send us a text In this episode Joseph, Gabe, and RedBear dig into Mexico’s Indigenous heart — the food, the languages, the rituals, the medicine, all of it still alive today. Tortillas, tamales, pozole, Day of the Dead, Nahuatl and Maya, curanderos doing limpias — this isn’t the past, it’s daily life for millions. This week we’re talking about how that continuity runs through Mexico, from the table to the altar to the healer’s smoke. And at the end, we point to what was coming in the 1980s, when a man named Adolfo Constanzo was already being called a powerful brujo. He promised protection and gained followers! That’s where we’ll go next week. Thanks for listening and enjoy!  Nightmares of the americas and the behill network are teaming up with the long hairs. Listener Tales: Knives Out, Bacon On, and Things in the Dark

Send us a text We’re back with a full table of listener stories — and they’re wild. Garrett’s got a bald, gray-skinned thing popping up in a Texas field like it’s playing peekaboo. Someone else swears a mimic opened the garage door and called them in their mom’s voice. Jarett runs into a pale, twisted figure in South Jersey that could give the Jersey Devil nightmares. And from Australia, River shares an encounter with the Mulu — part dog, part kangaroo, all bad news. In between, we somehow end up talking bacon thickness, Red Bull recipes, and why everyone in these stories seems to be armed with a knife. Bigfoot Revisited!

Send us a text In this episode of Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales, the crew dives back into the forest to revisit one of the most iconic figures in North American lore: Bigfoot. But this isn’t your typical campfire story. We explore how a few different Native tribes view Bigfoot — not as a monster, but as a spiritual guardian, a symbol of nature’s balance, and sometimes even a teacher. Joseph, Gabe, and RedBear share Indigenous perspectives, slightly discuss the legendary Patterson-Gimlin film, and swap bizarre B-movie horror reviews along the way (yes, including killer turkeys and cursed fairy tales). So whether you believe Bigfoot is flesh, spirit, tree, or interdimensional traveler, come hang out and revisit the legend with us. Listener stories wanted! Got a weird tale of your own? The Heart-Eater – The Stikini Part 2

Send us a text This week we are continuing our story about the Stikini – Part 2. Last episode, we explored the Seminole origins of this terrifying owl-like being, the legends of transformation, and the powerful warnings that still ripple through Native oral traditions today. But now, things get weirder. This time, Joseph, RedBear, and Gabe dig deeper into the blood-chilling reality of the Stikini’s transformation, what it really means when owls appear out of nowhere, and why some stories say just speaking its name can mark you for death. We’re talking vomited souls, dangling organs, shapeshifting, spiritual codes, and why some tribes say owls are messengers of death… while others see them as wise protectors. You’ll also hear about the creatures people have confused with the Stikini—like the Mothman, Thunderbird, Pisa Bird, and a terrifying giant owl some cryptozoologists believe is stalking the forests right now. So if you missed Part 1, go listen. If you’re ready for the kind of truth that’ll make you double-check your trees tonight, hit play and hang on. This is Nightmares of the Americas: Indigenous Tales.
