    No Laughing Matter - August 16, 2026

    Is anything too hard for God? Abraham and Sarah were promised a child when they were far beyond the age of having children—and their first response was laughter.     The Call of Abraham

    In this message, Pastor Rob Borkowitz opens Genesis 12:1-9 to kick off a brand-new sermon series on the Patriarchs, tracing the story of how God set his plan of salvation into motion. We meet Abram—not as a righteous hero, but as an ordinary pagan idol-worshipper living in Mesopotamia—when God suddenly calls him to leave his country, his extended family, and even his father's house behind, and journey to a land he hasn't even named yet. It's a call that costs Abram everything familiar, with no guarantees except God's word.Alongside that call comes an astonishing set of promises: God tells Abram he will become a great nation, that his name will be great, that he'll be a blessing to others, and that through his offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed. None of it is earned. Abram has done nothing to deserve these promises—they're given purely by grace, the same grace that reaches us today through Jesus Christ, Abram's promised offspring.The sermon closes by highlighting Abram's response: simple, obedient faith. He doesn't just say he believes God—he packs up and goes, trusting God to lead him even into unfamiliar, already-inhabited territory. It's a powerful challenge for us today to consider whether our own faith is more than words: does it show up in how we actually live, trust, and obey when God calls us into the unknown?

    The Pharisee & The Tax Collector - July 5, 2026

    In Luke 18:9–14, Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector to confront one of the most dangerous sins we can harbor: self-righteous pride. Through a humorous look back at high school cliques and our tendency to compare ourselves with others, this message explores how easily we elevate ourselves while looking down on those we consider less moral, less successful, or less deserving. Jesus warns that trusting in our own goodness always leads to contempt for others and blinds us to our desperate need for God's grace.By contrasting the proud Pharisee with the humble tax collector, Jesus reveals the heart that truly pleases God. The Pharisee boasts in his religious accomplishments and moral superiority, while the tax collector simply cries out, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner!" The sermon reminds us that no amount of good works, moral living, or comparison with others can earn God's favor. Every person stands equally in need of mercy, and forgiveness comes only through humble faith in Jesus Christ.The message concludes with Jesus' powerful promise: "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."     In Luke 16:19–31, Jesus tells the unforgettable parable of the rich man and Lazarus—a story that powerfully reminds us that the comforts and successes of this life are not indicators of our standing before God. While one man enjoyed luxury and another endured poverty, everything changed after death. This dramatic role reversal points us beyond temporary circumstances to the eternal realities of heaven, hell, and the importance of genuine faith in Christ.In this message, we examine what this parable teaches—and what it doesn't. Jesus isn't condemning wealth or praising poverty as the path to salvation. Instead, He exposes the danger of trusting in earthly riches while neglecting the Lord. We also consider the rich man's desperate requests after death, the finality of eternity, and why God's Word is sufficient to call sinners to repentance. The message challenges us to examine our own hearts and consider whether we have placed our faith in Christ alone.Most importantly, this sermon points us to the hope of the gospel.     The Dishonest Manager - June 21, 2026

    In Luke 16:1–13, Jesus tells the challenging parable of the dishonest manager—a story that has puzzled readers for centuries. While the manager's dishonesty is not commended, Jesus highlights his shrewdness and uses the parable to teach an important lesson about how believers should view and use their wealth. Just as the manager acted with the future in mind, Christians are called to use the resources God has entrusted to them with an eternal perspective.Jesus teaches that money is not an end in itself but a tool to be used for God's kingdom. Rather than placing our hope in wealth or accumulating possessions for our own comfort, we are called to invest in things that have eternal value—supporting gospel ministry, showing hospitality, serving others, and helping people come to faith in Christ. Our earthly resources are temporary, but the impact they can have for God's kingdom can last forever.The sermon concludes with Jesus' sobering warning that no one can serve two masters. Wealth makes a poor god and an unreliable source of security. As stewards of all that God has given us, we must faithfully manage our possessions, recognizing that everything ultimately belongs to Him. The question each believer must answer is simple but profound: Are we using our money to serve God, or are we serving money instead?
