🎙️Loud Pipes, Yellowstone Adventures, Sunken Sleds & The $8,500 Question!

The snow may be taking a summer vacation, but Sled Talk never stops!🏁❄️ In this summer edition of Sled Talk Season 2, Steve and Rob catch up on what they've been doing during the off-season before diving into some seriously interesting—and occasionally controversial—snowmobile topics. 🔥 Is Minnesota coming after loud snowmobiles? New rules targeting aftermarket exhaust systems and those sharp popping and crackling sounds have the guys asking where the line should be drawn. Is it about noise levels, rider behaviour, or both? And does common sense have a place in the conversation? 🏔️ Want to snowmobile in Yellowstone? We talk about Yellowstone's permit lottery, riding requirements, technology standards, guides, and what it takes to experience one of North America's most unique snowmobiling destinations. 💧 What happens when the water disappears? Drought and historically low water levels are revealing some incredible finds—including submerged vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs and other lost treasures. We even get into the world of magnet fishing and the strange things people are pulling from rivers and lakes. 🔥 And then we get controversial… Are today's 200cc youth snowmobiles really the best way to grow the sport? The guys debate the cost of new youth sleds versus buying an older, inexpensive machine, limiting the throttle and—most importantly—teaching kids how to ride, maintain and repair a snowmobile. Steve and Rob look back at growing up on old beat-up sleds, breaking down on the trail, helping your buddies fix their machines and learning that sometimes the breakdowns became the best memories. Is spending $8,500 on a new 200cc sled the best investment—or could $1,500 spent on an older sled create a lifetime of memories, mechanical skills and camaraderie? 💥 This one is guaranteed to generate some opinions! And before we wrap up, Steve drops a valuable pre-season snowmobile maintenance reminder. Winter will be here before you know it, so now is the time to start thinking about cleaning, greasing, inspecting and preparing your sled for the upcoming riding season. 🛠️ THIS EPISODE COVERS:  • Minnesota snowmobile regulations exhaust laws and aftermarket cans  • Yellowstone snowmobiling permits  • Low water levels and submerged snowmobiles  • ATV and vehicle discoveries  • Magnet fishing  • Vintage and used snowmobiles  • Polaris Indy 200 / Arctic Cat ZR 200 / Ski-Doo MXZ 200  • Teaching kids to snowmobile  • Pre-season snowmobile preparation  • Vintage snowmobile memories 🚨 WANT TO GET YOUR BUSINESS IN FRONT OF SNOWMOBILERS? Vintage Iron, Big Wins & Prairie Pride | Little River Relics Show & Shine Recap

We hit the road to Minnedosa, Manitoba for the Little River Relics 3rd Annual Snowmobile Show & Shine—and it did not disappoint. Steve rolled in with three head-turners: a Kawasaki Drifter, a Chrysler Snow Runner, and his award-winning 1983 Yamaha Vmax… and drove home with hardware, taking 3rd place in the 1981–1990 class. Not bad for a weekend surrounded by some of the cleanest vintage sleds you’ll ever see. This event is blowing up—in the best way. From just 6 trophies in year one to 31 awards this year, plus around 85 sleds on display with riders coming in from Saskatchewan and Alberta. And honestly? There’s room for even more. We break down the show from the inside: The sleds that stopped us in our tracks (including some we’d never seen in person) The incredible volunteers keeping everything running smoothly Why indoor shows—with food, drinks, and great local support—just hit different And the passionate community that makes events like this so special We also got to meet a ton of you, hear your stories, and see firsthand how deep the love for snowmobiling really goes. Safe to say… this won’t be our last Show & Shine. 🔥 If you love vintage sleds, restoration stories, and real snowmobile culture—this episode is for you. 👍 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more sled talk, trail stories, and vintage builds! Sled Drive-Thru’s, Marketplace Scams & Our Ride Ended in Disaster!

In this episode of Sled Talk, we cover a little bit of everything from community pride to trail-side breakdowns. Snowmobilers on Mackinac Island, Michigan are stepping up in a big way by helping with Meals on Wheels deliveries, and yes — sleds are even rolling through the drive-thrus. It just goes to show what happens when riders are respectful and valued in their communities. We also talk about the upcoming indoor Vintage Sled Show & Shine in Minnedosa, Manitoba, and we’re planning to be there. Steve goes off on the Marketplace scammers after dealing with crooks while searching for an enclosed trailer for his toys, and he shares a warning for anyone buying sled parts or trailers online. The guys also debate a question every rider has an opinion on: premium vs regular fuel. Is the extra cost worth it, and how much does fuel quality really matter these days? Another hot topic is trail litter. Garbage left behind in warm-up shacks and along the trails continues to frustrate riders everywhere. Remember: pack it in, pack it out — it’s smaller and lighter on the way home. We also react to the wild story of a woman who allegedly stole over $300K to buy snowmobiles, ATVs, and other equipment. Plus, we get into drive belt loyalty — OEM vs aftermarket, broken belts, and whether a failure ever caused extra damage to your sled. Steve shares updates on his summer restoration of his 1979 Yamaha SRX, along with a few other sleds waiting in line. And finally, the guys recap their second ride of the season together, which unfortunately ended with broken sleds, but Rob’s already fixing the shock so it’s ready for next fall. If you love snowmobile podcasts, trail riding stories, vintage sled restoration, snowmobile maintenance, and rider debates, this episode is packed with real talk from the trail. 👍 Like, comment, and subscribe for more snowmobile podcast episodes, trail stories, sled repairs, gear talk, and vintage builds. Behind The Groomer: Are We Doing It Right?

In this episode of Sled Talk, the guys cover everything from world records and military snowmobiles to trail grooming, stolen sleds, and engine rebuilds. They kick things off by revisiting our “Record Breakers and Movie Makers” episode, where Wasaga Beach made a run at the Guinness World Record books. Did they pull it off? The guys break down how it all turned out. From there, the conversation shifts to a surprising story about snowmobiles being used by Russia during attacks in Ukraine, and how Ukraine successfully fought back. That leads Steve into sharing some history on the snowmobiles once used by the Canadian military, adding a cool throwback military sled perspective. The discussion then heads across the globe to India, where snowmobile use in the Himalayan mountains has been restricted because of environmental damage. It sparks a bigger conversation about responsible riding and trail preservation. 🚨 HOT TOPIC ALERT 🚨 The guys dive deep into trail grooming, exploring ideas on how clubs and organizations might improve trail quality while reducing costs. This one’s sure to spark debate, so we definitely want your feedback. Another big question: Does Manitoba really need the 3rd highest number of snowmobile trails in Canada? With nowhere near the 3rd highest population, the guys discuss whether trail consolidation could make sense, improve grooming efficiency, and better stretch club resources. Of course, it wouldn’t be Sled Talk without a “What Was He Thinking?” segment. This time, it’s all about a thief who stole a snowmobile without thinking through the escape route. That spins into more listener feedback from previous episodes where we discussed trail enforcement and policing. We also get an update as Wolf Guy finally wraps things up with a plea deal, closing the book on a story listeners have been following. To finish the episode, Steve shares his best practices for rebuilding a snowmobile motor, including why using re-manufactured crankshafts from Performance Supply can mean faster turnaround, reliability, and a rebuild done right. If you’re into snowmobile news, trail debates, sled history, engine rebuilds, and real-world rider issues, this is an episode you won’t want to miss. 👍 Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe, and drop your thoughts on the grooming and trail consolidation debate.
