Is Technology Narrowing Your Vision? (The Digital Trap)

Have you ever realized how much of the world you are missing because of the screen in your hand? Even with all the information in the universe at our fingertips, we often end up seeing less of what is right in front of us. In this video, I share a personal journey of rediscovery and why it is time to break out of our digital bubbles. 🚗 I recently visited the Athletes in Action campus in Xenia, Ohio, and it was a massive wake up call. Despite being nearby for years, I never realized the depth of the facilities and programs they offer because I never took the time to look past the surface. This experience reminded me how much we rely on algorithms and targeted ads to tell us where to go, rather than exploring our own communities with curiosity. 🌎 We dive into the importance of getting to know your local area, from historic schools like Wilberforce University to unique spots like the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati. Whether it is taking a staycation or simply talking to people in your neighborhood, there is a whole world waiting outside your comfort zone. Plus, I share a quick update on my new look and a reminder to stay proactive about your health by getting those checkups. 🏥 Stay tuned until the end for a special musical reflection on finding peace and adventure in the mountains. Let’s get out there and experience life to the fullest! 🏔️ Chapters 0:00 The missing beard and health checkups 2:15 Discovering Athletes in Action in Xenia 5:10 Information overload and the digital bubble 8:30 Exploring what is right in front of you 11:45 Local gems and the staycation mindset 14:20 Seeing your city through a tourist’s eyes 16:30 Outro song: A tribute to the mountains If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel for more content like this. The Paradox of Fairness (Fair vs. Equal — and Why "Not Fair" Might Be a Lie You're Telling Yourself)

Somebody at work gets a promotion and you've got more tenure than they do. That first hot flash of "that's not fair" — you know the one. Here's an uncomfortable question: what if it actually was fair? In this episode, Coach Eric breaks down a distinction that gets mixed up constantly and quietly wrecks relationships when it does: equal and fair are not the same word. Equal means the same treatment for everyone, no matter what. Fair means treatment matched to readiness, need, or circumstance — which means it's not going to look the same for everyone, ever. Both reactions to that gap are real. The actual damage isn't the unequal outcome itself — it's the silence around it, because humans fill unexplained gaps with the worst available story every single time. Coach Eric walks through the three modes that actually govern most of these situations — inclusion, growth, and results — with real examples from parenting, the workplace, and splitting a dinner bill with friends. Plus a simple, one-line script for both sides of the conversation: how to ask for the real reasoning instead of assuming the worst, and how to say the quiet part out loud before somebody's left to invent it themselves. Drawing on 20 years of coaching mental performance, Coach Eric takes a distinction that used to defuse arguments on the sideline and hands it to you for your job, your family, and your friend group. Ever caught yourself assuming the worst before asking? Tell Coach Eric about it. Pressure vs Toxic Environment: Are you being given a shot to get better or are you getting burned out?

Has anyone ever told you something was "just for now" — and then now quietly became forever? In this episode, Coach Eric breaks down a distinction that gets lost constantly: pressure and toxicity are not the same thing, even though they look almost identical from the outside. Pressure builds you. Toxicity corrodes you. And if you've ever assumed a situation was fine because it looked successful — a winning team, a company hitting its numbers, a family that seems put-together — this episode explains why that's the wrong measurement entirely. Coach Eric also takes on burnout directly, and it's not what you've been told: burnout isn't loving something too much until the love runs out. It's the environment burning that love out of you — which is why so many "burned out" people quietly go back to a version of the same thing later, just smaller, once the conditions change. Plus: the pattern Coach Eric calls "getting Smithed" — the sneaky way a "just this once" quietly becomes the permanent deal at work, in friendships, and at home — and a simple, calm boundary script you can actually use the next time it happens to you. Drawing on 20 years of coaching mental performance, Coach Eric translates lessons from the locker room into tools for everyday life — because pressure doesn't check your ID before it decides to flood you. Ever gotten "Smithed"? Send Coach Eric your story. ARR (like a pirate!) for a 15 second stress fix

Your phone buzzes. It's your boss: "Got a minute to talk?" Four words, and suddenly your chest is tight and you can't remember how to breathe. In this episode, Coach Eric teaches a fifteen-second tool for the exact moment everything spikes — not tomorrow, not after you've journaled about it, but right then, while it's happening. It's called ARR: Anchor, Reframe, Reset. (Yes, it sounds like a pirate joke. Coach Eric makes it every time he teaches this live, so get it out of your system early.) Built from twenty years coaching athletes through mound visits and free-throw meltdowns, ARR turns out to have nothing to do with sports at all — it works standing outside a job interview, mid-meltdown in the cereal aisle, or on the phone with the one family member who knows exactly which buttons to push. Coach Eric walks through all three steps, including the one almost everyone skips (Reset — the part where you actually go again), and tells the story of Andy, a kid on the mound who didn't need a speech, just a sequence. This isn't about never getting rattled again. It's about having fifteen seconds you can trust when the moment comes. Why the 5-Star Rating System is Ruining Everything

Have you ever left a five-star review for a service that was actually just okay? We live in a world where the pursuit of a perfect rating has replaced honest communication, and it might be doing more harm than good. 🌟 In this video, I dive deep into why the five-star system has fundamentally changed how we interact with each other. From tradesmen hiding mistakes to the awkwardness of telling a family member their cooking needs more spice, we have become a society that fears the truth. We explore the idea that a three-star rating should actually be the norm, representing an average, decent experience rather than a failure. When everything is either a one or a five, the feedback becomes meaningless for both the consumer and the business. 📉 I share several personal stories to illustrate this point, including a recent Airbnb stay that left me torn between being nice and being honest. We also look at the pressure of gift-giving and why we feel so much guilt when a thoughtful gesture does not quite hit the mark. When we stop being honest about the small things, we lose the opportunity to grow and help others improve their craft. It is time to move past the binary of perfect or terrible. By embracing polite honesty, we can build more trustworthy relationships and better businesses. Let us stop living the five star lie and start valuing the truth again. 🗣️ Chapters 0:00 The death of the three star rating 2:45 Why we hide mistakes to stay perfect 5:15 The problem with online review systems 8:00 Honest feedback at the dinner table 10:30 The guilt of returning gifts 13:15 The Airbnb cleanliness dilemma 15:45 Choosing honesty over comfort How do you handle reviews?
