Forgiveness: How to Let Go of Hurt, Anger, and Resentment

How do you forgive someone who hurt you when they never apologize? And how do you forgive yourself for things you can’t change? Forgiveness is easy to talk about until you’re the one who’s been hurt. In this episode of the Change the Way You Think podcast, I’m talking about forgiveness, my third personal core value, and one of the hardest things I’ve had to learn in life. I’m sharing my personal experiences with childhood trauma, forgiving my father, forgiving my mother, and learning to forgive myself for things I’ve done in the past. My father has been in prison since I was 18 years old. I’m 48 now. I’ve had to learn that forgiving him doesn’t mean what he did was okay. It doesn’t mean I have to have a relationship with him. It means I don’t want to carry that anger, resentment, and pain around for the rest of my life. Through my Christian faith, counseling, and personal growth, I’ve started understanding how much our past can affect the way we think, act, and treat others. In this episode, we talk about: • How to forgive someone who hurt you deeply • Forgiving yourself for past mistakes and regrets • Letting go of anger, bitterness, and resentment • Why forgiveness doesn’t require an apology • Forgiving your parents for childhood trauma • Setting healthy boundaries after forgiveness • How faith in God helps us forgive others • Why forgiveness is sometimes a daily decision • Taking ownership of your actions while understanding your past • Finding emotional freedom and inner peace Ephesians 4:32 reminds us to forgive one another as God in Christ forgave us. Colossians 3:13 reminds us that as the Lord has forgiven us, we must also forgive others. Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. It doesn’t mean accepting what someone did. And it certainly doesn’t mean allowing someone to continue hurting you. Sometimes forgiveness is something we have to work on over and over again. Here’s my question for you: Who are you still allowing to control your peace because you haven’t forgiven them? Maybe it’s a parent, a friend, someone who betrayed you, or maybe it’s yourself. If you’re struggling with forgiveness, childhood trauma, resentment, anger, or letting go of your past, I hope my story helps you realize that you can choose to move forward without waiting for someone else to make things right. If this episode helps you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Follow the podcast and let me know your thoughts. Why Does God Allow Suffering? Finding Good When Life Gets Hard

Why does God allow bad things to happen? How can you trust God when life doesn’t make sense? And how do you find something good in situations that seem completely hopeless? In Episode 2 of my Personal Core Values Series, I’m talking about one of the values I work on every single day: Always Look for the Good. It’s easy to be positive when everything is going right. But what happens when tragedy strikes, someone you love dies, or life throws something at you that you just can’t understand? When my mom passed away, I struggled with those questions myself. My son was young, and I couldn’t understand why he had to grow up without his grandmother. But over time, I started recognizing things I hadn’t seen before. I believe God is good in all circumstances, even when we don’t understand what’s happening. That doesn’t mean bad things don’t hurt. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t grieve, get angry, or question things. It means we have to make an intentional effort to look for the good instead of allowing negativity, bitterness, and resentment to take over our lives. Sometimes we won’t understand why something happened. Sometimes we may never know. But I believe we can still trust God and find peace knowing He’s in control. In this episode, I share my thoughts on: • Why bad things happen and how faith helps us through them.• Finding good in difficult situations.• Trusting God’s plan when life doesn’t make sense.• Overcoming negativity, anger, and resentment.• Dealing with grief and personal loss.• Finding peace, purpose, and hope through Jesus Christ.• Living intentionally and developing a positive mindset. I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m saying it’s something we have to work on. 💬 I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Have you ever experienced something terrible and later recognized something good that came from it? Do you struggle to trust God when life gets hard? Share your thoughts. I genuinely want to hear your experiences and what you think about this message. Take Ownership of Your Life and Stop Blaming Everyone Else

If you want to change your life, you have to take ownership of it. You cannot control everything that happens to you, but you can take responsibility for your choices, your reactions, your effort, and what you do next. In this episode of Change the Way You Think, I’m starting a new series about my personal core values and the principles I’m working to live by every day. The first one I’m sharing is ownership. We talk about personal responsibility, accountability, stopping the blame, making fewer excuses, learning from failure, improving relationships, becoming a better parent, building confidence, finding purpose, and growing in your faith. For me, taking ownership also means surrendering my life to God. I ask God for wisdom and guidance. I surrender the things I cannot control and take responsibility for the things I can. That does not mean I get it right every day. I don’t. Core values are not about being perfect. They are about knowing the person you want to become and making progress toward that person every day. If you’re tired of feeling stuck, blaming circumstances, or wondering why your life is not changing, ask yourself a hard question. What part of my life do I need to take ownership of today? I’ll be sharing another one of my personal core values next week, so follow the podcast and come along with me through this series. Life Goes On With or Without You: Stop Making Excuses and Live With Purpose

Life is going to keep moving whether you move with it or not. In this episode of Change the Way You Think, I’m talking about living with purpose, making the most of the time God has given us, and quitting the excuses that keep us stuck. You can complain about your health, your job, your relationships, your past, or the people who hurt you—but life isn’t going to stop and wait for you. At some point, you have to get up and do something about it. I also get personal about forgiveness and what happened when I looked at a picture of my mom and realized that even though I thought I had forgiven her, I hadn’t completely let it go. Truly forgiving her took a weight off me that I didn’t realize I was still carrying. You don’t have to know your entire purpose in life today. Get up with purpose today. Serve God. Love people. Forgive somebody. Take care of your body. Work on your relationships. Move the needle. Life is going to pass either way. Don’t sit there and watch it happen. Sometimes You Need to Get Your Ass Whipped

Sometimes we all need to get our asses whipped. We need to fall down, fail, get humbled, and realize maybe we don’t know as much as we think we do. I’ve learned that lesson plenty of times in my life, and I’m learning it again right now. I’m going through changes in my company that I honestly haven’t wanted to make. I’ve been doing things a certain way for a long time, and I’ve gotten comfortable with it. Now I’ve got somebody pushing me to change, use new technology, do things differently, and quit being so damn hard-headed about it. And I think he’s right. I’m dealing with it in my personal life too. My son went to live with his mom, and that’s been an ass whipping for both of us. It’s made me look at myself as a dad, what I could’ve done better, what I need to change, and what I need to stand firm on. Jiu-jitsu will teach you the same lesson real quick. You start thinking you’re getting pretty good and somebody comes along and reminds you how much you still don’t know. That’s life. You’re going to fail. You’re going to get knocked down. You’re going to be wrong sometimes. What matters is whether you stay down and make excuses or get back up and learn something from it. I believe sometimes God lets us hit the gravel hard because a little bump wasn’t enough to get our attention. So if life is kicking your ass right now, don’t automatically think it’s the end of the world. Maybe there’s something in it you need to learn. Get up, dust yourself off, make the change, and keep moving. Victim or Victor? Stop Making Excuses, Trust God & Take Responsibility for Your Life

Are you living like a victim or a victor? In this episode of Change The Way You Think, I talk about something I’ve struggled with and learned from throughout my own life: the difference between blaming your circumstances and taking responsibility for what you do next. I grew up poor. My mom was on welfare. My dad was an alcoholic. For years, I wondered why I had been given the life I had. But as I got older and my faith grew stronger, I began looking at those struggles differently. Instead of only seeing what happened to me, I started seeing how those experiences helped mold me, strengthen me, and prepare me for what came next. This episode is about breaking the victim mentality, overcoming adversity, personal responsibility, Christian motivation, trusting God, finding your purpose, learning from failure, and developing a stronger mindset. Being a victor doesn’t mean life always works out the way you planned. It means you keep getting up. You learn when you fail. You put one foot in front of the other and climb the ladder one rung at a time. Maybe the struggle you’re facing isn’t the end of your story. Maybe God is using it to mold you for something you can’t see yet. Stop wasting your life blaming everyone else. Use the gifts God gave you. Put in the work. Have faith. Keep moving forward. Be a victor, not a victim. If this episode speaks to you, follow the podcast, share it with someone who needs it, and let me know what being a victor means in your life.
