    Mount Famine, Pub Kid and Son of Cormack... A show with a folky/blues vibe!!!

    A blues and folk inspired edition of Freshly Squeezed this week... well for 2 out of the 3 emerging artists featured anyway. As always, this is the podcast where you can find the very best of new music and potentially discover your next new band. The three acts Jim has hand picked (or should that be ear picked?) this week are... Pub Kid: If Bob Dylan had grown up in the Midlands, spent too much time in pub back rooms and developed a fondness for modern British storytelling, he might sound a bit like Pub Kid. Stripped back, unfiltered and wonderfully authentic, his songs place lyrics front and centre, drawing on folk traditions where every line matters and every character feels real. Mount Famine: Mount Famine occupy that sweet spot where indie rock's melodic instincts collide with post-punk atmosphere and alternative swagger. There are shades of New Order's drive, lyrical dexterity of Slow Readers Club and the restless energy of Franz Ferdinand, all wrapped up in a sound that's unmistakably their own. Son Of Cormack: After more than two decades of writing, refining and living the stories that shape his music, Son Of Cormack is finally preparing to release his debut album. Born from British and Irish roots but now shaped by life in Austin, Texas, his sound effortlessly blends blues, folk and Americana influences.     Some VERY exciting bands pop up on this weeks offering of new music via the Freshly Squeezed podcast.     A Lost Manchester Masterpiece: Aziz Ibrahim on 'Lahore to Longsight'.

    It's something a bit different and a bit special on this episode of Freshly Squeezed: A New Music Podcast. Jim Salveson is joined by legendary Manchester guitarist Aziz Ibrahim, best known for his work with The Stone Roses, Ian Brown, Paul Weller, Simply Red, and some of the biggest names in British music. Although we're usually focused on new releases, Aziz's story centres around an album that's both old and new at the same time. Originally recorded more than 25 years ago, 'Lahore to Longsight' has finally been rediscovered and reissued for Record Store Day 2026 (and along with a nationwide tour) introducing it a new generation to a remarkable piece of Manchester music history. Aziz reflects on stepping into the Stone Roses following John Squire's departure, the creation of Lahore to Longsight, and the extraordinary cast of musicians who helped bring it to life, including Mani, Reni, Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce, Denise Johnson, Paul Weller, Steve White and Talvin Singh. The conversation explores how the events of 9/11 impacted the album's original release, the connections between Lahore to Longsight and Ian Brown's classic albums Unfinished Monkey Business and Golden Greats, and why Aziz felt compelled to revisit the record following the loss of several close friends and collaborators. Weather Happy: Formerly of BERRIES, Holly Carter has teamed up with drummer Harry Carter to create Weather Happy, a London duo making grungy, math-rock-tinged alt-rock full of twists, turns and huge melodies. Holly and Jim chat about new tune Trees, working with Rod Jones (Idelwild) and the quiet bravery of moths! James Bruner: James Bruner creates classic rock'n'roll tunes that wear their influences proudly. Think The Strokes, Jet and The Hives with a modern swagger thrown in for good measure. His latest single Hypnotized is a defiant punch back against self-doubt. Aqua Line: Some proper 90s-inspired garage-rock energy from the Brighton and Guildford five-piece Aqualine.
