Let’s See If It Works! I found my childhood 2-XL packed away with its original tapes, so it’s time to unbox my old robotic friend and discover whether he still works. Before smartphones, tablets, and modern AI assistants, 2-XL entertained kids with interactive stories, trivia, jokes, and educational adventures recorded on cassette tapes. I used to take this guy in the car, play along for hours, and have a great time learning from what I now consider my original AI. Inside the box, I uncover programs including Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Voyage to Outer Space, Jurassic Facts, Say Hello to Famous Folks, African Safari, and Incredible Sports Feats. After checking the battery compartment and installing fresh batteries, it’s time to discover whether 2-XL can come back to life. Once he powers on, I attempt an interactive trivia challenge involving dinosaurs, elephants, giraffes, moths, and some answers that sound more than a little suspicious. Did you have a 2-XL? When I was young, I wanted to become a ventriloquist. I carried this dummy everywhere, studied books about ventriloquism, and imagined myself performing onstage for an audience—even though everyone could clearly see my mouth moving. Finding him again unlocked memories of all the ways I dreamed of entertaining people. From Pee-wee’s Playhouse and classic comedians to church camp meetings, illusions, Joey the Clown, and learning musical instruments, performing has always been part of my story. Milty’s World is my opportunity to finally follow that path, have fun, and share those memories with you. The dummy also comes back to life long enough to interrupt the show, criticize my ventriloquism skills, and tell a joke that leaves me wondering why I ever took him out of the box. Did you have a childhood toy that inspired a dream or brought out your creative side? Tell me about it in the comments. ⏱️ GENERAL TIMELINE 00:00 – Cold open: The dummy wants to tell a joke00:10 – I found my childhood dummy in a box00:36 – Why I wanted to become a ventriloquist01:14 – Christmas memories and taking him everywhere02:30 – My childhood dream of becoming an entertainer02:39 – The dummy interrupts the show03:19 – Comedy, clowns, illusions, and music05:16 – Back to the dummy—and his questionable joke06:19 – Final memories and a message from the dummy Subscribe and follow along as I uncover more childhood toys, forgotten memories, antique-store discoveries, and strange pieces of my past.

Along the way, I revisit memories of wanting a Game Boy, knowing someone who owned a Game Gear despite not having a television, and growing up during a time when even a simple handheld game could keep us entertained for hours. I test a Sonic pinball game, attempt to revive Dennis the Menace, struggle with a strange Brick Game, and finish with a surprise Jurassic Park handheld. Milty admits he still wants to try stand-up himself—and asks Jennifer what finally gets you over that fear.It gets funny. It gets raw. It survived my childhood, decades in storage, and apparently about 40 years of dirt—but after finding a badly corroded battery inside, I had no idea if it would ever work again. So I decided to find out. While cleaning it up, I started remembering all the lives this little plastic gun had when I was a kid. It was my Star Wars blaster when I was Luke Skywalker trying to save Princess Leia (before I understood the unfortunate family situation there). It became RoboCop’s sidearm when I followed my mom through department stores pretending to enforce the law. And apparently, even as a kid, I really wanted an audience.Somewhere between the contact cleaner, a Radio Shack sticker, questionable tool choices, 40 years of dust, and asking God to resurrect an old toy, I realized there was a bigger reason I wanted to see if it still worked.Sometimes you just have to try.Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn’t. But you’ll never know what something—or someone—is still capable of if you never give it a shot. And after nearly 40 years…Well, you’ll see.Question for you: What toy from your childhood do you wish you still had? And if you still have one, tell me about it in the comments.Timestamps:00:00 The Moment of Truth00:06 My 1986 Laser Gun00:58 Childhood Memories01:34 Star Wars, Luke & Leia02:27 Becoming RoboCop at the Mall03:09 Trying to Bring It Back to Life05:14 The Corrosion Finally Comes Off06:12 Sometimes You Just Have to Try06:33 The Radio Shack Discovery07:08 Praying for a 40-Year-Old Toy07:34 The Moment of TruthThanks for watching Milty’s World.Support Milty’s World on Patreon: [Patreon link]#MiltysWorld #Nostalgia #80sToys #ChildhoodMemories #RadioShack

I Still Don’t Know What I Want to Be When I Grow Up

I Still Don’t Know What I Want to Be When I Grow UpWhen I was four years old, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.I wanted to be Pee-wee Herman.Okay, technically I wanted to be an actor. A comedian. An entertainer.I was obsessed with comedy. I’d hear Johnny Carson coming on TV from my bedroom and run down the hallway. I stayed up to watch Arsenio Hall. I wanted to be in movies and TV shows. I wanted to perform.Mostly, I wanted to make people laugh. Then somewhere along the way, that simple answer became complicated. We’re taught that eventually we’re supposed to pick something.Go to school. Pick a major. Get a career. Get a job. Then when somebody asks what you do, you’re supposed to have a nice little one-sentence answer. But I’ve never really had one.I’m 41 years old, I’ve worked 11 jobs across seven different industries, and I still have a ridiculously long list of things I want to do.I want to make people laugh.I want to interview interesting people.I want to make movies.I want to make cooking shows and travel videos.I want to make cartoons.I want to try stand-up.And I want to make weird shit I haven’t even thought of yet.For most of my life, I thought that meant I had a problem focusing. Now I’m starting to wonder if I was simply asking myself the wrong question. The podcast isn’t the dream.YouTube isn’t the dream.A movie isn’t the dream.Stand-up isn’t the dream.Making people laugh, telling stories, creating things and bringing people together—that’s the dream.Milty’s World is me giving myself permission to explore all of it.Maybe the question was never:“What do I want to be?”Maybe the better question is:“What do I want to make?”And I have a whole lot of answers for that.Maybe you’re 30, 40, 50 or older and you still don’t know what you want to be when you grow up.Maybe you don’t have to.Maybe we’re not supposed to spend our entire lives being just one thing.Maybe we’re supposed to keep becoming whatever it is we’re becoming.I’m 41 years old. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.And for the first time in my life, I don’t think I need to.Chapters00:00 What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?00:05 At Four Years Old, I Knew00:09 I Wanted to Be Pee-wee Herman00:23 I Wanted to Make People Laugh00:29 Johnny Carson, Arsenio Hall & Comedy01:09 I Knew What I Wanted to Do01:14 Then the Simple Answer Got Complicated01:33 I’m 41 and I Still Don’t Know01:43 I Don’t Want to Be Just One Thing01:48 Everything I Still Want to Make02:09 I Want to Try Stand-Up02:22 The Weird Shit I Haven’t Thought of Yet02:26 Why I Thought This Was a Problem02:40 We’re Taught to Pick Something02:47 What Do You Do?03:05 How Much Time You Got?03:12 I Thought I Couldn’t Focus03:16 11 Jobs in Seven Industries03:20 Maybe There’s Another Explanation03:29 Hold On, There’s a Car Coming03:35 The Thing Connecting All of It03:49 The Podcast Isn’t the Dream04:00 What the Dream Actually Is04:04 What Milty’s World Really Means04:09 Giving Myself Permission to Make Anything04:39 I Don’t Want Milty’s World to Be One Show04:46 Maybe It Took Me 41 Years to Understand This04:56 Maybe I Was Asking the Wrong Question04:59 What Do I Want to Make?05:05 Maybe You’re Like This Too05:13 Maybe You Don’t Have to Choose05:21 We’re Supposed to Keep Becoming05:27 I Still Don’t Know What I Want to Be⸻Welcome to Milty’s World.Comedy, commentary, conversations, stories, experiments—and whatever else I decide to make next.Sometimes it’s funny.
