Season 2 Announcement - Something Different

Season 2 of the GrandValli Podcast is coming. I honestly did not know what I wanted this season to be about at first. Then a good friend of mine brought up the idea of focusing on women and girls, specifically around health, female empowerment, relationships, boundaries, independence, financial health and just overall well-being. Once she brought it up, I kept thinking about something I had heard years ago: boys are raised to take risks and girls are raised to be perfect. I could not remember where I heard it, so I went looking and realized it came from Reshma Saujani’s TED Talk Teach Girls Bravery, Not Perfection from 2016. The fact that it was from 10 years ago surprised me and also made me wonder how much of what she talked about is still true today. In this episode, I go through some of the things that stood out to me from the talk, like women feeling like they need to meet every qualification before applying for a job, girls being more likely to associate struggling with something being wrong with them, and the idea that sometimes we would rather show nothing at all than let people see us trying, struggling or not getting something perfect. A lot of it made me think about how early we can start connecting failure, mistakes or things not working out with who we are as people. I do not have all the answers, and that is kind of the point of this season. I want to learn more. I want to look at what the research says now, hear from other women, and have conversations around mental and physical health, money, relationships, bravery, boundaries, freedom and what empowerment actually looks like in real life. This episode is really just the beginning of that conversation. Welcome to Season 2. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
