Season 2, Episode 7: The Gap Between Knowing and Doing

Send us Fan Mail You know what to do. You know movement helps blood sugar. You know vegetables are good for you. You know sleep matters. You know stress affects your numbers. So why is actually doing those things sometimes so hard? In this episode of Sick of Pricks, I'm talking about the gap between knowing and doing. The place where so many of us get stuck. We collect information. We save posts. We listen to podcasts. We research meal plans. We convince ourselves that if we could just learn one more thing, everything would finally click. But what if knowledge isn't the problem? We'll talk about overwhelm, exhaustion, fear, perfectionism, motivation, and why taking action is often much harder than gathering information. Most importantly, we'll talk about why struggling to follow through doesn't mean you're lazy, broken, or failing. If you've ever found yourself saying, "I know what I should be doing, I'm just not doing it," this episode is for you. Because the goal isn't perfection. It's taking the next step. 🎙️ In this episode: • Why collecting information can feel safer than taking action • The real reasons we get stuck • Why motivation isn't the answer • How perfectionism keeps us trapped • Reconnecting with your personal "why" • Small steps that help close the gap between knowing and doing Remember: knowing is important. But change happens when we start practicing what we already know. 🫶🏻 Connect with Mary:  On Facebook On IG On TikTok Join The Sisterhood, Mary's wellness program for women here Find diabetes support for women here--> Sugar Mama Strong Diabetes Support Find diabetes support for men here--> Dudes with Diabetes Find my book and other merch --> https://sugarmamastrong.com/product-category/goods/this-wasnt-in-the-pamphlet/ This Wasn’t in the Pamphlet on Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/yjf8v8p3 Medical disclaimer: The information presented in this podcast is intended for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Season 2, Episode 6: Everybody's Suddenly a Diabetes Expert

Send us Fan Mail Everybody suddenly has an opinion about diabetes. Your coworker becomes a nutrition expert. Your aunt has a miracle cure. Some random guy on Facebook thinks cinnamon fixed everything. And somehow your plate, your medications, your blood sugar, and your body become public discussion topics. In this episode of Sick of Pricks, we’re talking about unsolicited advice, internet experts, food policing, medication judgment, and the emotional exhaustion of feeling constantly watched when you live with diabetes. We’re also getting real about: why diabetes commentary hits so deeplythe pressure to be the “perfect diabetic”constantly feeling like you have to explain yourselfshame, judgment, and being perceivedlearning boundaries and protecting your peaceIf you’ve ever been asked “should you be eating that?” while literally chewing your food…this one’s for you. 🫶🏻 Connect with Mary:  On Facebook On IG On TikTok Join The Sisterhood, Mary's wellness program for women here Find diabetes support for women here--> Sugar Mama Strong Diabetes Support Find diabetes support for men here--> Dudes with Diabetes Find my book and other merch --> https://sugarmamastrong.com/product-category/goods/this-wasnt-in-the-pamphlet/ Medical disclaimer: The information presented in this podcast is intended for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Season 2, Episode 5: Why Your Brain Won't Shut Up About Food

Send us Fan Mail Food noise. That nonstop mental chatter about food that can feel impossible to shut off. In this episode of Sick of Pricks, I’m talking about what food noise actually is, why so many people with type 2 diabetes struggle with it, and why it’s about so much more than “just use more willpower.” We’re getting into: • constantly thinking about food • guilt and shame around eating • the binge/restrict cycle • diet culture and how it makes food obsession worse • why blood sugar swings, restriction, and stress can all crank food noise up • GLP-1 medications and why so many people describe the noise finally getting quieter • practical ways to start finding more peace around food Most importantly, we’re talking about this without shame. Because if you’ve ever felt like food takes up way too much space in your brain, you are definitely not alone. Season 2, Episode 4: Binge Eating and Diabetes-The Conversation No One Wants to Have

Send us Fan Mail This week on Sick of Pricks, we’re talking about binge eating. The real kind. The hidden kind. The kind wrapped in shame, secrecy, guilt, food noise, and feeling completely out of control around food. In this episode, I’m sharing my personal experience with binge eating disorder, from childhood memories of hiding food and compulsive eating to the mental battle that can happen during a binge. We’re talking about the complicated relationship between diabetes, restriction, shame, perfectionism, and the feeling of constantly being “graded” by your blood sugar, food choices, and body. We also talk about: • the difference between binge eating and simply overeating • why binge eating is more complex than “just emotional eating” • dopamine, compulsive behavior, and why willpower alone isn’t the answer • the shame spiral after a binge • how restriction and punishment can make the cycle worse • learning curiosity and compassion instead of self-hatred • why people with diabetes deserve support, not blame This episode is emotional, vulnerable, and deeply personal for me, but if you’ve ever struggled with binge eating, food guilt, or feeling alone in your relationship with food, I hope it helps you feel seen. *** 🫶🏻 Connect with Mary:  On Facebook On IG On TikTok Join The Sisterhood, Mary's wellness program for women here Find diabetes support for women here--> Sugar Mama Strong Diabetes Support Find diabetes support for men here--> Dudes with Diabetes Find my book and other merch --> https://sugarmamastrong.com/product-category/goods/this-wasnt-in-the-pamphlet/ Medical disclaimer: The information presented in this podcast is intended for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Season 2, Episode 3: Self-Sabotage Isn’t a Personality Trait (It’s a Pattern)

Send us Fan Mail You’re not “bad at consistency.” You’re not “someone who always quits.” You’re stuck in a pattern. In this episode, we’re breaking down why self-sabotage keeps happening and why it has a lot less to do with discipline and a lot more to do with what your brain does the moment things get hard. Because most people don’t quit at the beginning. They quit in the middle when it stops feeling easy. Inside this episode: • The quitting cycle (and why it feels automatic)  • How perfectionism quietly fuels the spiral  • Why one off moment turns into “screw it”  • The connection between old beliefs and current habits  • How to catch the pattern earlier and respond differently If you’ve ever thought, “why do I keep doing this?”, this episode will hit home. Season 2, Episode 2: Explaining Type 2 Without Over-Explaining Yourself

Send us Fan Mail Ever feel like you have to justify your diabetes to everyone around you? From comments about what you’re eating…to opinions about medication…to the classic “you don’t look diabetic” , somehow managing type 2 turns into defending your entire life. In this episode of Sick of Pricks, we’re talking about the pressure to explain yourself, where that comes from, and how to stop over-explaining your choices, your treatment plan, and your body. Because this isn’t just about communication…it’s about identity, boundaries, and learning to trust yourself. 💥 In this episode, we talk about:  Why explaining diabetes can feel so exhausting  The pressure to educate, defend, and prove yourself  How diabetes gets tied to identity (without you even realizing it)  Defending your treatment plan to family, friends, and even other diabetics  Letting go of the need for approval  Real-life responses to common comments and questions  How to tell the difference between a conversation and a boundary moment  Building confidence without over-explaining yourself 🔥 Real talk: You don’t need to justify your medication. You don’t need to explain your food choices.  ou don’t need to prove that your approach is “right.” Your treatment plan is not a group project. *** ⭐ If you loved this episode: Don’t forget to subscribe, leave a review, and share it, it helps more people find this podcast and reminds them they’re not doing this alone. Season 2, Episode 1: GLP-1s, Stigma, and Everyone’s Opinions

Send us Fan Mail GLP-1 medications have gone from a diabetes treatment…to a full-blown internet debate. And somehow, everyone has an opinion. In this episode, we’re cutting through the noise and talking about what these medications actually are, what they do, and why the conversation around them has gotten so messy. Because this isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about diabetes, metabolic health, and treating real medical conditions without the shame. We’re getting into:  What GLP-1 medications actually do in the body  Why they’ve become so controversial  The myth that using medication means you “failed”  The pressure to “just do it naturally”  How weight loss has hijacked the conversation  Obesity as a disease (not a personality flaw)  Why medication is not the opposite of discipline  Navigating judgment, stigma, and unsolicited opinions I also share a bit of my own experience using a GLP-1 and what actually changed for me when my body finally started working with me instead of against me. If you’ve ever felt judged for how you manage your diabetes… If you’ve questioned your own choices because of what other people think… Or if you’re just trying to figure out what’s real and what’s noise… This episode is for you. 📚 Want to go deeper? If this conversation hit home, my book This Wasn’t in the Pamphlet dives even deeper into the real-life, unfiltered experience of living with type 2 diabetes...the mindset, the stigma, the ups and downs, and everything in between. And if you’re someone who likes to reflect and actually work through what you’re learning, the Unfiltered Companion Guide was created to go alongside it with prompts and space to process your own journey in a way that feels real, not rigid. Episode 27: Everything Changed (Just Not the Way I Thought)

Send us Fan Mail Today is a full-circle moment. One year ago, I hit record on the very first episode of Sick of Pricks, a podcast born from lived experience, not credentials. From honesty, not perfection. From a woman who once didn’t even want to say the word diabetes out loud. And today? My book, This Wasn’t in the Pamphlet, is officially out in the world. In this anniversary episode, I’m taking you back to the beginning...before the Facebook group, before The Sisterhood, before the microphone sat on my desk for three years waiting for me to show up. Before all of it, there was a 21-year-old girl sitting on her parents’ front lawn after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Feeling ashamed. Feeling guilty. Feeling like everything had just cracked. This episode is about that girl. It’s about avoiding. About denial dressed up as “I’m fine.” About walking into doctor appointments hoping the labs wouldn’t be too bad. About leadership that didn’t start polished...it started messy. We talk about: • The quiet years of ignoring my diagnosis  • The moment Sugar Mama Strong stopped being “just a group”  • Losing 100 pounds without losing myself  • Imposter syndrome and hitting record anyway  • Why lived experience is enough  • And how you don’t become her because you’re perfect, you become her because you stop hiding If you’re still in your own “front-yard moment”, this episode is for you. You are not ruined. You are not broken. You are becoming. *** 🎉 Anniversary Giveaway To celebrate one year of Sick of Pricks and the launch of This Wasn’t in the Pamphlet, I’m giving away: • One grand prize signed book bundle  • Two Sick of Pricks merch prizes To enter:  Share this episode with someone who needs it. Text it. Post it. Tag someone.  Then come back and comment “Shared” on the episode post or send me a DM. Winners will be announced one week from today. This podcast has never grown because of ads.  It’s grown because you tell someone, “You need to hear this.” *** 📖 The Book Is Live This Wasn’t in the Pamphlet is officially available. This is not a diet book. Not a medical manual. Not a promise of perfection. It’s an honest, unfiltered guide to what it’s actually like to live with type 2 diabetes...the mindset, the burnout, the shame, the identity shifts, and the quiet fears no one talks about. And if you want to go deeper, the Companion Guide is available as well, designed to help you process what you’re reading and apply it to your own story. You can:  • Grab both on Amazon  • Or order a signed copy of the book from my website Everything is linked below. Thank you for being here.  For listening.  For sharing.  For growing with me. Year one is complete. And we’re just getting started. 🖤 *** 🫶🏻 Connect with Mary:  On Facebook On IG On TikTok Join The Sisterhood, Mary's wellness program for women here Find diabetes support for women here--> Sugar Mama Strong Diabetes Support Find diabetes support for men here--> Dudes with Diabetes Find my book and other merch --> https://sugarmamastrong.com/product-category/goods/this-wasnt-in-the-pamphlet/
