    Birthday Records

    We are back with another all analog, all vintage all vinyl show! This morning we will be playing tracks from albums that I received for my birthday this year from my wonderful parents, who have made it their mission to rescue as many records as possible from the thrift stores and tractor auctions across Wisconsin.There really isn’t any overarching theme this week, other than the usual subjects of heartache, drinking and criminal activity.     Labor Day Show

    In Wisconsin, Labor Day became an official state holiday in 1893. Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894. President Grover Cleveland, after breaking the American Railway Union with considerable violence and loss of life, signed a bill making the first Monday in September a national holiday for American workers. It was a blatant attempt to win back public support after using Federal Troops to break the Pullman Strike earlier that summer. Some 1,500 workers marched toward the Bay View Rolling Mills (then the area’s biggest manufacturer) urging the workers there to strike, demanding an eight-hour work day. The local militia, called to the scene by Governor Jeremiah Rusk, fired on the crowd, killing seven people and ending the march. The event became known as the Bay View Massacre.     TRIBUTE TO DOLLY PARTON

    We suffered a huge loss in Country Music this week. Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday after a brief battle with Cancer. Dolly was 80 years old. This morning’s show is our tribute to Dolly Parton. She was a prolific artist who wrote hundreds of songs, so we can only begin to scratch the surface of her catalog. We will be playing songs performed by Dolly, written by Dolly and made famous by Dolly.     Killin' Your Man, Wedding Bells May or May Not Be Ringing in the Chapel and Ain't Love Grand ?(Wedding Songs)

    The theme for the first section of this week’s show comes from this video that Classic Country Corner Superfan Jenna in McFarland sent me. I’ll be honest, there are dozens if not hundreds of songs about men killing their significant others or objects of their desire, there’s even a term for it “murder ballad”. But songs where it is the other way around? not so much. I was able to find a few female murder ballads where the roles are reversed. After two years of hosting this show,I realized that the middle section is usually “The Bummer Set”😆 This week’s bummers are all about being left at the alter or watching your beloved marry someone else. As per station direction, we cannot legally end the show on a maudlin note. The last set of songs is all about blissful weddings and true love.
