    Episode 32: Clerks

    We weren’t even supposed to be here today! This time on The Regular Guy Movie Show, we’re heading to Leonardo, New Jersey, for Kevin Smith’s 1994 indie cult classic, Clerks. Made for roughly $27,000 and filmed mostly overnight inside the convenience store where Smith actually worked, Clerks became a calling card for an entire generation of aspiring filmmakers. But more than 30 years later, does Dante and Randal’s day behind the counter still hold up? We dig into the incredible story of how the movie was made, the mixture of actual actors and Kevin Smith’s buddies who populated the Quick Stop, the soundtrack that eventually cost far more than the movie itself, and the logistical gymnastics required to shoot a movie inside a functioning convenience store. And because apparently we have entirely too much time on our hands, we also investigate some of Clerks’ surprisingly shaky timeline, Veronica’s questionable college-transfer decisions, rooftop hockey, the physics of postmortem erections, and why Kevin Smith probably should have stopped telling us exactly what f*****g time it was. Plus: Pick Your Poison puts Clerks against some of its 1994 contemporaries, fellow Gen-X slacker movies and other Kevin Smith favorites. One Star, We’re Open! challenges Justin and Brian to identify famous businesses using nothing but hilariously terrible customer reviews.
