    TACO TUESDAY! The Lessons the Police Academy Couldn’t Teach Us Twenty-two weeks to put on the badge. A career to understand the life behind it. Nearly every police career begins with the same question: ”Why do you want to be a cop?” Every police academy begins with a promise. If a recruit successfully completes the required hours, examinations, scenarios, physical training, firearms qualifications, and field exercises, they will receive the authority—and accept the responsibility—to wear the badge. The academy teaches recruits how to begin the job. It cannot teach them everything the job will eventually demand. Some lessons come after graduation and may take a career to learn. Today I reflect on some of those lessons, and how they aren't just lessons for cops, but for every career and every walk of life.     The Boy With Wings with Mark Mustian

    Wednesday Wisdom! Today’s guest, Mark Mustian, is an author, attorney, former elected official in Florida and Founder of Word of South Festival of Literature and Music in Tallahassee, Florida. As an author, his prior novel, The Gendarme, won the Florida Gold Book Award for Fiction and was shortlisted for the Saroyan International Award for Writing. It's been published in ten languages.  His new novel, Boy With Wings, is about a boy, well, with wings, who ends up in a freak show traveling the South in the 1930s. It deals with issues of race and religion, but more than anything with what it means to be different.  Today we are going to dive into how ignorance, superstition and spirituality play into the novel and in today’s fast paced, chaotic world.
