Send us Fan Mail The Voice of Betrayal: Is It Discernment or Are You Expecting to Be Hurt Again? | Walking in Discernment Ep. 3 Have you ever been betrayed so deeply that you started expecting everyone else to eventually hurt you too? Betrayal has a voice. It says: “Here we go again.” “You can’t trust anybody.” “You’re better off alone.” “Don’t let anybody play with you again.” And sometimes, after being hurt repeatedly, that voice can become so convincing that we mistake it for discernment from God. In Episode 3 of Walking in Discernment, we’re talking about The Voice of Betrayal and what happens when past hurt begins speaking into new relationships, friendships, workplaces, churches, and opportunities. I share my own testimony of experiencing betrayal throughout my life—including friendships, relationships, family, and the workplace—and how God had to show me that just because something happened before doesn’t automatically mean it is happening again. In this episode, we talk about: • How betrayal can disguise itself as discernment • Recognizing familiar patterns without automatically assuming the same outcome • The difference between real red flags and red flags created by fear • How unrealistic expectations can make disappointment feel like betrayal • Why expecting people to become who you want them to be can damage relationships • Why betrayal makes isolation feel safer • Learning to trust people again without abandoning boundaries • How betrayal can make you defensive, angry, and unwilling to extend grace • The mental “replay” of betrayal, lies, broken promises, and conversations • Unforgiveness and the root of bitterness • How to forgive someone who betrayed you • How to stop checking social media and searching for answers • How to take your thoughts captive • How to hear God’s voice when your wounds are speaking loudly • How Jesus responded to Judas and what His betrayal can teach us • Healing without becoming hardened • Loving people as individuals instead of making them pay for what someone else did Betrayal may have taught you to watch your back, question people's motives, isolate yourself, or expect the worst. But healing doesn't mean ignoring red flags. It means learning to discern without allowing your wounds to make the decision for you. You can have boundaries and still have a soft heart. You can pay attention without becoming paranoid. You can recognize familiar patterns without assuming everybody has the same intentions. And you can forgive without giving everybody unlimited access to your life. 📖 Scriptures discussed: Matthew 7:16 1 John 4:1 1 Corinthians 13:5 Ephesians 2:10 Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 Colossians 3:13 James 1:19 Hebrews 12:15 2 Corinthians 10:5 Philippians 4:8 Ephesians 4:32 Philippians 2:13 If this episode speaks to you, subscribe, share it with someone healing from betrayal, and leave a comment: What has betrayal been saying to you that you now realize may not be the voice of God?
