John Konchar is drawing interest from the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors, according to The Stein Line, giving one of the top remaining NBA free agents several potential landing spots ahead of the 2026-27 season. HoopsHype analyst Cyro Asseo breaks down Konchar’s fit with all four teams and ranks his potential destinations based on playing time, contention, roster fit and coaching familiarity. The Knicks stand out as the best combination of championship contention and opportunity. New York has an established rotation, but its wing depth is relatively thin behind OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart. Landry Shamet can play on the wing, but Konchar offers more positional versatility as a 6-foot-5 guard-forward who can defend multiple positions, rebound and potentially play small-ball power forward. Injuries could also open a path for Konchar to crack New York’s eight- or nine-man playoff rotation. Toronto offers perhaps the clearest path to consistent minutes. The Raptors have Jamal Shead and Ja’Kobe Walter in the backcourt but lack an established veteran reserve wing behind Kawhi Leonard, RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes. There is also familiarity with head coach Darko Rajaković, who previously coached Konchar as an assistant in Memphis. Toronto may not carry the same championship expectations as New York or Miami, but the combination of opportunity, roster fit and familiarity makes it an intriguing destination. Miami represents another contender, and Konchar fits the profile of a role player Erik Spoelstra has traditionally valued. He defends, rebounds, plays without dominating the ball and can provide complementary floor spacing. The issue is opportunity. Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Pelle Larsson, Simone Fontecchio, Nikola Jovic and others could all stand between Konchar and regular rotation minutes. Orlando could also use another dependable veteran under new head coach Sean Sweeney. Konchar could provide defense, rebounding, shooting and low-usage versatility off the bench, but the Magic already have considerable depth across the wing and forward positions, potentially leaving Orlando as the toughest destination for him to find consistent playing time. Konchar averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 19.9 minutes across 56 games last season. He has appeared in 363 NBA games over seven seasons. Financially, Konchar projects as a minimum or near-minimum signing after recently being waived, so each team has a viable mechanism to add him without needing to use the entirety of its available exception.
