    My Favourite F1 Season - The Honourable Mentions

    Welcome to the 10th and final episode of "My Favourite F1 Season", the series where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with broadcasters and journalists look back over their favourite F1 seasons, and the impact it had on them. In this final episodes, Kevin is joined again by Autosport's Sportscar correspondent Gary Watkins and F1 writer Stuart Codling to go over the seasons that didn't quite make the cut. There's mentions of modern classics like 2021 (Despite it's controversial ending), all the way back to 1958 and the World Championship that got away for the late Sir Stirling Moss against Mike Hawthorn. How about 1979 and the battle between Jody Scheckter and Gilles Villeneuve? Kevin also asks, what makes a great F1 season to them, and even wonders if Gary and Stuart would change their pic from their original selections...

    My Favourite F1 Season - Damien Smith's 1986

    It's a meeting of the Editors for Episode 9 of our "Favourite F1 Season" series, as Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with journalists and broadcasters to review their favourite Formula 1 season and what it meant to them as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary. In this week's episode, Kevin sits down with former Editor-In-Chief and freelance Motorsport writer Damien Smith to discuss his favourite season - 1986. 1986 was a season most remembered for an epic three-way title fight between Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell as Williams' teammates, and eventual Champion Alain Prost in his McLaren. Together, Kevin and Damien discuss that incredible battle, including that overtake from Nelson in Hungary, the internal politics, the rise of a young Ayrton Senna, and the tragic passing of Elio de Angelis. There's also a comparison between the Autosport and Autocourse Top 10 rankings of the time.

    My Favourite F1 Season - Haydn Cobb's 2012

    Welcome back to Episode 8 of "My Favourite F1 Season" on Autosport Retro, the series where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with journalists and broadcasters from around the sport to talk about their favourite F1 season, and what it meant to them. This week, Kevin is joined by Autosport.com Editor Haydn Cobb to discuss his favourite F1 Season - 2012. 2012 has been generally regarded as one of the greatest of the modern-day F1 seasons, with six out of the sport's twelve teams winning at least one race, of which, seven different drivers claimed victory. It was a season that featured a dramatic title fight between Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, with both men attempting to win their third World Championship, with Vettel taking the title by just three points. Haydn and Kevin talk about that battle, McLaren's role was the unreliable antagonist, the Lewis Hamilton to Mercedes switch being confirmed, and compare Autosport's own end-of season Top 10 driver rankings.

    My Favourite F1 Season - Jake Boxall-Legge's 1999

    Welcome back to Episode 7 of "My Favourite F1 Season" on Autosport Retro, the series where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with journalists and broadcasters from around the sport to talk about their favourite F1 season, and what it meant to them. This week, Kevin is joined by Autosport F1 and Tech Editor Jake Boxall-Legge to discuss his favourite F1 Season - 1999. Known as a season with a lot of chaotic individual races, Mika Hakkinen would just barely take his second World Championship by just two points ahead of Eddie Irvine, who had become Ferrari's #1 contender for the season after a horror crash at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone broke both of Michael Schumacher's legs. Jake and Kevin discuss how Mika Hakkinen nearly threw the title away despite a dominant McLaren on paper, as well as the political shift at Ferrari, the impressive season from Heinz-Harald Frenzten, and the famous 1999 European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring which led to a famous win for British driver Johnny Herbert.

    My Favourite F1 Season - Gary Watkins' 1983

    Welcome back to Episode 6 of My Favourite F1 Season, where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with journalists and broadcasters past and present, to talk about their favourite F1 season. This week, Kevin is joined by Sportscar correspondent Gary Watkins to discuss the 1983 season. It was a new era for F1 entering 1983, "ground effect" floors on cars were banned, and it led to an intense battle between turbo-changed engines, and naturally aspirated Cosworth V8's, and a battle between Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost, with the Brazilian ultimately taking glory in the final round of the Championship in Kyalami. It marked Brabham's final World Championship, and the first turbo-powered car to win an F1 title. Gary and Kev break down the elegance of the grid, why Prost ultimately failed to win the title, as well as comparing the Top 10 Driver Rankings from Autosport and Auto Course.

    My Favourite F1 Season - Stuart Codling's 1976

    Welcome to Episode 5 of our Autosport Retro series: "My Favourite F1 Season", as Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with his fellow broadcasters and journalists to sit down and review what they thought was their favourite Formula 1 campaign. In this week's episode, Kevin sits down with former GP Racing Magazine Editor and F1 writer, Stuart Codling to review his favourite F1 season - 1976.  Arguably one of the most famous F1 years of all and later adapted into Hollywood movie "Rush", 1976 featured the legendary title fight between Niki Lauda and James Hunt, and the horrific accident at the Nurburgring Nordschleife that nearly claimed the Austrian's life. All the elements of their fight are described in detail, as well as the Autosport and Auto Course Top 10 rankings and other stories like Ronnie Peterson's win at Monza and Jody Scheckter's campaign.

    My Favourite F1 Season - Maurice Hamilton's 2007

    It's Episode 4 of "My Favourite F1 Season" on Autosport Retro, the series where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with journalists and broadcasters from around the sport to talk about their favourite F1 season, and what it meant to them. This week, Kevin is joined by Maurice Hamilton, broadcaster, author, and F1 journalist of nearly 50 years to discuss his favourite season, 2007. 2007 was a season where politics played a huge role in the Championship battle between McLaren and Ferrari. "Spygate" clouded the middle of the season as McLaren was found with confidential Ferrari information, losing all of their Constructor's Championship points and being fined 100 million dollars.  Lewis Hamilton made his F1 debut and was immediately in a heated battle with new signing and reigning two-time Champion Fernando Alonso, which came to a head with Fernando's infamous pitlane block at the Hungarian GP. Maurice shares stories of covering the huge stories, as well as Kimi Raikkonen's comeback to win the title, and sharing Autosport and Auto Course's Top 10 driver rankings for the season.

    Welcome to Episode 3 of our new series on Autosport Retro, "My Favourite F1 Season", where Autosport Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner sits down with fellow journalists, broadcasters and other special guests to talk about their favourite F1 season and the impact it had on them. This week, Kevin is joined by James Allen, former F1 commentator, turned President of Autosport Business and F1 to discuss his favourite season, 1993.  While on face value, 1993 was ultimately won comfortably by Alain Prost, it was the politics behind the scenes that shaped the season. James talks at length about Nigel Mansell's shock retirement heading into the season and his brief departure to IndyCar and how it impacted Williams, as well as Michael Andretti heading the other way with McLaren. Ayrton Senna was driving for McLaren on a race-by-race basis and finally committing later on in the year, and that testing period is also explained at length by James. Also featured are a review of the Top 10 drivers of the year by Autosport and Auto Course.
