The Hex Hollow Murder & York County Witch Trials

Happy Spooky Season! Episode 74: Deep in the isolated woods of York County, Pennsylvania, lies a valley where witchcraft and hex superstitions were still alive in the 20th century. On a freezing November night in 1928, three men marched into the dark of Rehmeyer Hollow, driven by a terrifying conviction: they were cursed, and the only way to break the spell was to steal a book of black magic, or take a lock of hair from a dead man’s head. This isn't a story from the Salem Witch Trials—this happened in modern America, where a clash of faith, healing, paranoia, and a brutal murder exposed a hidden world of witchcraft right in our own backyard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehmeyer%27s_Hollow https://unchartedlancaster.com/witchcraft-and-murder-in-hex-hollow/ https://www.americanhauntingsink.com/hexhouse https://phillyghosts.com/the-hex-house/ https://www.glencairnmuseum.org/newsletter/2017/3/2/powwowing-in-pennsylvania https://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2024/10/hex-murder-roiled-central-pa-a-century-ago-column.html https://www.ydr.com/story/news/history/blogs/york-town-square/2015/11/18/famous-york-county-witchcraft-case-probed/75894140/ https://www.wmtw.com/article/tales-of-witchcraft-spells-murder-surround-rehmeyers-hollow/12813612

A Deadly Trespass: The Chai Soua Vang Story

Happy Spooky Season! Episode 73: Imagine being miles deep in the freezing woods of WI, surrounded by dense pines, with nowhere to hide. Now imagine running for your life while wearing hunter's orange—a visible target through the trees for a trained marksman stalking you from behind. On opening weekend of deer season in 2004, a heated argument over an empty tree stand turned into a nightmare for 8 hunters. The Exorcism and Death of Anneliese Michel

Happy Spooky Season! Episode 72: She was an ordinary college student, until the day she began barking like a dog, eating spiders, and claiming that Adolf Hitler and Lucifer were speaking through her mouth. When medicine failed her, her deeply devout family made a fateful choice: they traded doctors for priests, embarking on sixty-seven secret, grueling exorcisms. But did they save her soul, or condemn her to a slow, agonizing death? Today, we go inside the tragic, disturbing story of Anneliese Michel—the real-life inspiration behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose—and the landmark courtroom trial that put faith itself on the witness stand. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anneliese_Michel https://allthatsinteresting.com/the-exorcism-of-emily-rose-true-story https://alibloch.medium.com/the-agony-of-anneliese-michel-the-true-possession-that-inspired-the-exorcism-of-emily-rose-093ba9faebc9 https://vocal.media/criminal/the-tragic-story-of-the-girl-who-inspired-the-exorcism-of-emily-rose https://medium.com/@subhammwrites/the-girl-possessed-by-seven-demons-ceaa2594d7db https://skepticalinquirer.org/exclusive/seized-by-the-spirit-temporal-lobe-epilepsy-and-the-exorcism-of-anneliese-michel/ https://www.arcaneknowledge.org/movies/annam.htm https://www.paranormalscholar.com/anneliese-michel/ https://www.medlink.com/news/temporal-lobe-epilepsy-and-neurobehavioral-phenomena-insights-for-neurologists https://cvltnation.com/horrific-case-anneliese-michels-possession-excorcism/ https://lawyerz.com/api/caselaw/Anneliese%20Michel%20Exorcism%20Case%20(1976)%20-%20Landmark%20case%20involving%20the%20death%20of%20Anneliese%20Michel%20during%20an%20exorcism.?sessionID=1715644800010%20-%20n0ja7c https://www.nytimes.com/1976/08/08/archives/germans-stirred-by-death-of-woman-in-exorcism.html

Happy Spooky Season! Episode 71: In 1895, Irish fairy folklore was no bedtime story; it was a deadly weapon. The Torso Killer AKA The Times Square Ripper

Episode 70: Imagine checking into a Times Square hotel room in 1979, only to find the fire department rushing past you into a smoke-filled room. What they discovered inside wasn't just a fire—it was a scene so depraved, it would change New York City forever. Two women, completely dismembered, their heads and hands missing, and a killer who melted into the neon lights of the city. This is the story of Richard Cottingham, a family man and computer operator by day, and one of America’s most sadistic serial killers by night. They called him The Torso Killer, and while he was convicted of eleven murders, he claims his true body count is closer to one hundred. Today, we are diving deep into the double life, the gruesome crimes, and the decades-long interrogation that finally broke the silence of a monster. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Cottingham https://kympasqualini.medium.com/richard-cottingham-the-torso-killer-of-times-square-1b12d1a40d6f https://ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/a-serial-killer-stalks-times-square-in-the-1970s/ https://nassauda.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/1464 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/08/torso-killer-1965-murder-new-jersey https://www.aetv.com/articles/torso-killer-convicted-5-murders-confessed-more-than-20 https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/05/nyregion/torso-killer-richard-cottingham-cold-case.html https://www.orlandosentinel.com/2021/06/13/how-a-new-jersey-detective-coaxed-a-confession-from-a-serial-killer-to-solve-the-decades-old-murders-of-2-teen-girls-this-case-was-always-haunting-me/ https://www.police1.com/investigations/articles/how-a-detective-delved-into-the-mind-of-njs-torso-killer-to-close-brutal-cold-case-murders-BQloB30i4Du7GKED/ https://www.nydarksidepodcast.com/episodes-16-20/episode-20-richard-cottingham-the-torso-ripper-part-1 https://nassauda.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/1464 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-01/americas-notorious-torso-killer-reveals-himself/101757368

Clark Perry Baldwin: The Iowa Trucker Killer

Episode 69: Thousands of miles of asphalt, anonymous truck stops, and a lone man. In the early 1990s, long-haul trucking was the ultimate frontier of anonymity—and for Clark Perry Baldwin, it was the ultimate hunting ground. For nearly thirty years, investigators across multiple states were haunted by nameless victims known only as 'Bitter Creek Betty' and 'I-90 Jane Doe.' But what happens when our friend DNA accidentally unmasks one of America's most elusive highway predators? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_Perry_Baldwin https://cowboystatedaily.com/2025/05/05/accused-serial-killer-trucker-convicted-in-tennessee-now-headed-to-wyoming-for-trial/ https://cowboystatedaily.com/2025/07/18/accused-serial-killer-suspected-of-murdering-2-women-in-wyoming-dies-in-tennessee/ https://www.forensicmag.com/3594-All-News/620432-Serial-Killer-Suspect-Dies-1-Day-after-Third-Victim-Identification/ https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime/2020/05/07/clark-perry-baldwin-iowa-what-to-know/3087903001/ https://www.krgv.com/news/trucker-charged-in-serial-killings-faces-scrutiny-across-us/

Robert Ben Rhoades: The Truck Stop Killer

Episode 68: Most serial killers have a hunting ground, but for Robert Ben Rhoades, the hunting ground was the entire American highway system—and for investigators in the 1990s, it presented a nearly impossible challenge. How do you track a suspect who is constantly moving across state lines? You’ve driven past hundreds of semis on the highway.
