Episode 9: White Flight, Subjunctive Selves, and The Watchers in the Drawings

In this podcast episode, I’ll explore the concept of being watched, and intentionally sabotaged by outsiders, and I’d also like to explore how those efforts to hamper one person, can negatively impact the people around them and negatively impact the saboteur. In one of my most recent posts, I wrote about The teacher and the Comedian. I wrote about some things that happened in my 20s and 30s, and I wrote about some figures that played a sort of a nefarious role in my life at that time. I spoke a little bit about a character called The Comedian from Alan Moore’s The Watchmen. I was writing about the fact that I dealt with outside forces sabotaging me while I was trying to do my best work. Those outside forces spread rumors around me, saying that I was up to no good, and that I was manipulating and taking advantage of people when in fact I was serving the public genuinely. The rumors were intended to hamper me, or slow me down, or stop me from doing the work under the guise of “trying to protect the public from me”. They Kling on to their Culture

In this cast I live edit and clean up my article on the Klingons and the Transatlantic view of the Middle East. I wrote an interesting article about the idea that Star-Trek captures how “the west” sees people like me. But I also write about how the “West” isn’t by itself western civilization, because the Middle East is a crucial part of western civilization and western history, so we need another name to talk about the post-colonial cultures of Europe/North America - not limited to those geographies of course. I term this cultural phenomenon - The Transatlantic. So we can stop calling America the west, and Palestine the East, because they’re both western. To differentiate, we call Americans and French the Transatlantic, and we call Arabs the original westerns, along with Egyptians, Persians, Ethiopians, and Greeks, Carthaginians, and Turks, while the rest of the western civilizations rose later.
