From Cuba to Florida: The Incredible Story of Stewie the Studio Dog

Send us Fan Mail Today on the Palm & Pine Podcast, we're putting the spotlight on one of our most beloved companions—and the official Palm & Pine Podcast studio dog: STEWIE! Stewie may be a little Havapoo, but he carries a big piece of Florida and Cuban history with him. The Havanese, Cuba's national dog and only native breed, traces its roots back to small Bichon-type dogs brought to Cuba by Spanish settlers and traders centuries ago. These little dogs thrived in Cuba's tropical climate and eventually became treasured companions of Cuban families and aristocracy. But then came the 1959 Cuban Revolution, and the Havanese nearly disappeared from its homeland. As Cuban families fled the island, only a handful of these dogs made it out. Some were brought to Florida, helping preserve the breed and ultimately ensuring that the Havanese survived. That remarkable story of exile, survival and resilience eventually leads us right here to Florida—and to Stewie! We'll talk about Stewie's Havapoo heritage, the fascinating history of the Havanese, Cuba's connection to Florida, and why this little dog has become such an important member of the Palm & Pine family. And, of course, we'll have our Florida Cracker Word of the Day! Today's word: YANTO. Do you know what it means? It's another episode celebrating the quirky characters, history, culture and stories that make Florida unlike anywhere else. 🐾 Meet Stewie—the Palm & Pine Podcast's official studio dog! 🌴 Florida history & Cuban heritage 🇨🇺 The incredible survival story of the Havanese 🐕 Havapoo life with Stewie 🤠 Florida Cracker Word of the Day: YANTO Palm & Pine Podcast — Old Florida stories, strange Florida news, history, wildlife, culture and the characters who make this place special. 100 Episodes Later! Our Greatest Moments, Biggest Laughs & A Tribute to Chris

Send us Fan Mail One hundred episodes. Countless stories. Endless laughs. And a community we're incredibly grateful to share this journey with. In this special 100th episode of the Palm & Pine Podcast, we're taking a trip down memory lane to revisit some of our favorite moments from the first 100 episodes. From unforgettable stories and running jokes to some of the most outrageous Florida headlines we've ever covered, this episode is a celebration of everything that has made Palm & Pine what it is today. We kick things off by revisiting Episode 1, when Stere introduced us to the legendary "Cracker Business Marketing Techniques," followed by Professor Barlow's timeless lesson on how "time dilation" somehow works differently in the South. No Palm & Pine retrospective would be complete without looking back at some of Florida's most unforgettable criminals—including El Bandito Número Uno, the infamous Costco bandit whose bizarre crime spree left everyone asking, "Why?" We also dust off our confiscated bling as we revisit our Ode to Sheriff Judd, one of the show's most memorable and laugh-out-loud moments. Most importantly, this milestone episode is dedicated to our dear friend, John C. Jones, known to so many simply as Chris (1971–2026). Chris was our very first guest, appearing in Episode 2, and his friendship, humor, and love of Florida history helped shape the Palm & Pine Podcast from the very beginning. At the conclusion of today's episode, we share a heartfelt tribute in his memory and celebrate the lasting impact he had on us and so many others. As a special thank-you, the full video version of this milestone episode is available to all on Patreon. Whether you've been with us since the beginning or you're just discovering the show, thank you for being part of these first 100 episodes. Here's to the stories we've shared, the friends we've made, and the adventures still to come. Thank you for listening, laughing, and celebrating with us. Here's to the next 100! Gareth Icke on Ickonic, Fatherhood, Censorship, Fighting the Narrative & Southern English!

Send us Fan Mail What happens when one of Britain's most outspoken independent voices sits down with two seventh-generation Florida brothers? This week on The Palm & Pine Podcast, we welcome Gareth Icke from the UK for a wide-ranging conversation about censorship, free speech, independent media, and raising resilient children in an increasingly conformist world. Gareth shares the story behind Ickonic, the independent streaming platform built to give creators a voice outside the grip of censorship, shadow banning, and Big Tech gatekeepers. He explains why alternative media matters now more than ever and what it takes to keep speaking when powerful institutions would rather you stayed silent. We also dive into Gareth's fascinating historical walking tour YouTube series, where he explores forgotten places, overlooked history, and the stories hidden in plain sight throughout Britain. The conversation turns to fatherhood, discussing how parents can raise children with critical thinking skills, personal responsibility, and self-sovereignty in an age increasingly defined by victim mentality, ideological conformity, and the pressure to outsource independent thought. And because no Palm & Pine episode would be complete without a little fun, we wrap things up with a hilarious language game as Gareth discovers that Southern Americans may have improved on the King's English after all! Whether you're interested in free speech, independent media, history, parenting, or just enjoy hearing two cultures compare notes with plenty of laughs along the way, this is an episode you won't want to miss.
