The boys went into the sheds for six weeks with no phone, no alcohol and no drugs, running at dawn, learning how to fix a tap, sitting around a campfire at night having the conversations nobody had ever had with them. Every parent signed. Every boy stayed at school. She gave each of them a shearer's singlet and they wore it into town like a uniform.
