A conversation about process design, future skills and facilitating humans through change The key lesson from this conversation is that learning and change cannot be separated from the people going through them. Real transformation happens when we stop treating professionals as purely cognitive beings and start creating spaces where feelings, needs and the body are allowed to be part of the process too. We talk with Veronika Mercks, a process designer, facilitator and learning designer, about what it means to invite the whole human being, mind, heart, hands and body, into learning and change processes. Veronika shares how her own path after graduation, feeling lost and disconnected from herself, led her into experiential learning and auto education, and eventually into building her own practice around process design and facilitation. We explore the difference between facilitation, coaching, consulting and moderation, and why process design, the often invisible work that happens long before a workshop or retreat begins, is so crucial to creating spaces where real shifts can happen. Veronika also walks us through her understanding of future skills: not only technical competencies, but self-efficacy, the ability to deal with ambiguity, trust, intuition, body wisdom and the capacity to connect with a higher purpose. In this episode, you can learn about Navigaia Lab, the collective Veronika is currently building to support leaders, teams and fellow facilitators in creating more experiential, holistic learning spaces, and to eventually bring together a community of practice for people working in this field. This episode is for anyone who designs learning spaces, whether inside organisations, schools, universities or teams, and who senses that something about how we currently learn is not working anymore. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Learning happens through the whole self: mind, heart, hands, body ✨ Facilitation is not coaching, consulting or moderation ✨ Process design is the invisible work behind every good session ✨ Future skills go beyond tech: self-efficacy, ambiguity, trust, body wisdom ✨ Whole human spaces lead to more connected decisions 👋 ABOUT Veronika Mercks (she/her) Veronika is the founder and initiator of collaborative projects and initiatives in education, with over 15 years of experience working across the education ecosystem and impact-driven organisations. Since her studies, she has co-built several collective projects that bring people together around holistic, experience-based learning. She is also an experienced facilitator, guiding teams, groups, and networks through change and future-oriented processes, with certifications in experiential and nature-based process facilitation, generative facilitation, collective leadership, and design thinking. Her approach is experiential and holistic, including mind, heart, hand and the body — inviting people to show up as whole human beings. Holles Rad: About a forgotten Goddess & Art | 048

Eight letters a year - a path back to the roots of landscape and self-expression   In this episode, Priska Lang, social artist, scribe, and somatic experiencing practitioner, shares about her project Holles Rad, a collective sending seasonal letters filled with art, stories, and reflections to reconnect people with the yearly cycle. We learn how Holle, a pre-Christian figure from German mythology tied to fertility, death, and transformation, became a starting point for asking what ancestral wisdom could mean for people in Central Europe today, without borrowing from indigenous traditions that were never ours to take. Priska talks about tracing practices back to their true origins and learning from feedback when good intentions still caused harm. We also touch on the political dimension of natural cycles, learning from bird migration as an image for freedom of movement. This conversation is or anyone who wants to connect with heart, mind and body with the place and cycles around them, no matter their history with it. A reconnection between people and land that have been separated through capitalism. It speaks especially to people questioning spiritual bypassing, cultural appropriation, or how to build community rooted in consent and accountability. Listeners can take away that healing and connection do not require borrowing from other cultures, that slowing down with the seasons can be preventative rather than reactive, and that even well-meaning projects need ongoing feedback and unlearning to stay centred. Amendment of September 24th: In this Episode we have used the word "Decolonize” and just recently learned (from Tsepo Bollwinkel) that this is not a term white people should use unless they themselves were "recently" colonized. It is a word reserved for the colonized, as the process involves them decolonizing themselves and their spaces. For white people - descendants of colonizers who continue to benefit from colonial conditions today - the process is different: it entails recognizing and dismantling structures of domination such as white supremacy, offering apologies, and engaging in acts of reparation. For this inappropriate use of this term in this and previous episodes I want to apologize and hereby raise our collective awareness. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Ancestral roots vs borrowed traditions ✨ Trace every practice back to its true origin ✨ Spiritual bypassing vs facing collective pain ✨ Seasonal rhythm as a ritual, not reaction 👋 ABOUT Priska Lang (she/they) Priska is positioned as a white German and works as a scribe / visual harvester, social artist, facilitator, somatic experiencing practitioner, and co-founder of Holles Rad.
Priska draws visual summaries of events, designs and facilitates workshops or trainings, and accompanies people in one-on-one sessions of trauma work. Regenerative Cultures require Radical Responsibility | 047

Christine Dürschner on healing, conflict and building social competence collectively In this episode, I speak with Christine Dürschner, an organism developer, possibility coach, and community consultant who has lived at Schloss Glarisegg since 2011. Christine shares her view on how regeneration goes further than sustainability: rather than simply preserving a system that no longer serves us, it means building rich social soil so that something new and still unknown can grow. I ask her how communities recognize when they need this kind of collective healing, and she describes how conflict, circular decision-making, and stuck power dynamics are usually the symptoms that signal a community has reached its edge. Christine shares how communities and organizations can move from what she calls drama chaos into golden chaos by practicing vulnerability, honest conversation, and radical responsibility together. We discuss how radical responsibility is not about carrying guilt for the world's problems, but about recognizing our own patterns of dominance, rank, and avoidance, and choosing to grow beyond them for the good of the whole group. This episode is for anyone living in or building an intentional community, co-housing project, or values-driven organization who feels stuck in recurring conflict or shallow structural fixes and egos. The key lesson is that regenerative culture cannot simply be installed through frameworks. It requires ongoing practice of vulnerability, honest feedback, and a willingness to sit with discomfort as a group. Christine's biggest insight is that healing and transformation are not soft extras, but the actual fertilizer that allows collective intelligence and true collaboration to grow.   💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Regeneration requires growing new social soil through competence ✨ Circular conflict and stuck decisions signal it's time for collective healing ✨ Shared vulnerability builds real social competence ✨ Radical responsibility starts with owning your own patterns, not others' mistakes ✨ Sociocracy and holacracy fail without inner transformation to ground and fill them   👋 ABOUT Christine Dürschner Christine Dürschner is an organism developer, possibility coach, and community consultant based in Switzerland. How intentional use of language can shift from obstacle to possibility In this episode, Liisa Luonsi, a former Hyper Island student of mine, reflects on her journey into sustainability and change leadership. Liisa spent fifteen years in the finance industry, always curious about sustainability, before deciding to pause her career and dive deeper into understanding systemic change. We talk about what drew her to the Hyper Island programme, why she chose a six-month, part-time format, and how becoming a mother shifted her relationship to pace, presence and intention. Liisa shares how the course reshaped her language, moving her focus from problems and resistance toward possibilities, and how a river helped her understand the difference between reacting downstream and addressing root causes upstream. We also discuss the role of mentorship, the value of diverse teams, and why falling in love with change, while sometimes exhausting, is essential for anyone working toward transformation. This episode is for anyone considering a career shift into sustainability, especially those balancing family, multiple jobs, or an established career who wonder if it is the right moment to invest in deeper learning. The key lessons: real change requires patience, sustained attention, and community. Leadership can be quiet and reflective rather than rushed, and the small, daily practice of awareness shapes how we show up for the bigger transformations we want to create. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Upstream over downstream: address root causes, not just symptoms ✨ Words shape reality: "what if" language opens possibility ✨ Mentorship accelerates growth through complexity ✨ Diverse teams unlock deeper perspective shifts ✨ Daily rituals of presence build long-term change capacity 👋 ABOUT Liisa Luonsi Liisa is a change and transformation practitioner with more than 15 years of experience working across business, technology, and people in complex international environments. She is Prosci® certified in change management and is currently deepening her expertise in Sustainability & Change Leadership at Hyper Island. Rebuilding Roots: Umbuntu Alvorada in Brazil | 045

How a community project reclaims African heritage and fights climate injustice This episode is for anyone who cares about grassroots social change, environmental justice, and real community-led transformation. It is especially relevant for social entrepreneurs, development workers, and educators. This episode is for anyone who believes that real change starts from the ground up, and who wants to hear what that actually looks and feels like in practice. Eduardo Fortes Santos, co-founder of Ubuntu Alvorada in Alvorada, the poorest city in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, tells the story of a project born out of a pandemic crisis and rooted in centuries of suppressed history. What began with homemade masks and food packages has grown into a living, breathing community space of nearly 10,000 square metres, where children plant banana trees, learn Afro-Brazilian drumming, and for the first time in their lives, begin to dream. One of the most moving moments in this conversation is Eduardo's reflection that people cannot dream about what they do not know. Taking children to an airport, a theatre, or simply a playground for the first time changed everything. Some of those children are now national sports champions, working abroad, or training to become teachers. The episode does not shy away from the painful realities either: 400 years of slavery, ongoing structural racism, climate injustice, and the raw complexity of working within informal power structures in one of Brazil's most violent regions. Through it all, Eduardo speaks with a quiet conviction that transformation is possible, not because of money or outside expertise, but because of presence, patience, and the willingness to stay. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ You cannot dream what you do not know: expand children's horizons first ✨ Reclaiming culture is as vital as food, housing and income ✨ Trust in marginalised communities takes time and consistent presence ✨ Organic, local resources like banana trees can anchor both food security and economic independence 🔗 CONNECT & follow Eduardo Fortes' work 👉 Sign the petition on change.org 👉 Umbuntu on Instagram 👉 Get a first impression of Umbuntu here 👉 Movie "City of Gods" **** 💌 CONNECT & engage with Pia Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn to follow and support each other’s work. 🤗 If you consider yourself an #impactjobseeker or aspiring #impactpreneur at the beginning of your journey, jump on my Newsletter “Impact Insights” where I regularly share tools and best practices from my work as a sustainability consultant and system change facilitator. 🤓⚖ For daily insights “behind the scenes” and event updates, join the extended community on the @work.with.impact Instagram account. 🧐💓 P.S. Why we as Change Agents need to continue composting and start organizing - and how we could do it This episode is for change agents, social entrepreneurs, and activists who feel that the old tools are no longer working and sense that something fundamentally different is needed. We explore why the transformation field is exhausted and fragmented, why burnout in crisis work is a collective trauma response rather than a personal failure, and what it might look like to slow down, follow seasonal rhythms, and let genuine transformation move through us before we try to push it out into the world. Simon and Christa, seasoned Changemakers, are building the Zukunftsrat, a Futures Council for change agents in the German-speaking space of this world, with a first pilot of around 80 people planned for autumn 2026. They are currently looking for collaborators and conducting interviews to shape what the field actually needs. If this conversation resonates, reaching out to them directly is the next step. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ The transformation field is fragmented and largely invisible to itself ✨ Effective change requires inner transformation first ✨ Burnout is a collective trauma response, not a personal failure ✨ Community and relational trust are the antidote to crisis-mode isolation 👋 ABOUT Christa Cocciole & Simon Mohn Simon Mohn, is co-founder of Reinventing Society, a think-and-do-tank for systemic change and positive futures. Emotional Permaculture: Healing Through Conflict | 043

How a Colombian community turns pain into connection In this powerful episode, Luis Campos and Jenna Yates, co-founders and core members of the Colombian community El Juego, share with us what happens when you stop hiding your shadows and face them with others. We talk about how conflicts ranging from household chores to community finances became gateways for deeper self-awareness, and how emotional patterns rooted in childhood and family history keep showing up in our everyday relationships, whether at home or at work. What makes El Juego remarkable is that it was never planned: a group of travelers from very different cultural and economic backgrounds simply began exploring shared methods for processing their inner conflicts, and a community emerged organically from that process. Luis and Jenna introduce the concept of "emotional permaculture," the idea that the most difficult parts of ourselves can become the compost from which something genuinely regenerative grows. A core insight from the conversation is that healing is not a solo endeavor: we need other people to point out our blind spots, to hold space for the parts of us that we cannot yet see ourselves. Anyone navigating conflict at work, in relationships, or within themselves will find something concrete and grounding in this conversation. The main lesson is this: real connection and transformation happen not despite conflict but through it, when we have the agreements, the tools, and the community to go there together. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Conflict is the entry point, not the obstacle ✨ Childhood patterns live inside workplace dynamics ✨ Healing requires witnesses, not just willpower ✨ Community emerges from shared process, not shared plans ✨ Emotions are messengers for unmet needs 👋 ABOUT Luis Campos (he/him) & Jenna Yates (she/her) Luis Campos and Jenna Yates are facilitators and core members of the El Juego community, based in Colombia. Luis is an Argentinian-born father, storyteller, and co-founder of El Juego, and someone who believes that to process our deepest pain, we must be able to laugh at ourselves. Jenna Yates brings together creativity, investigation, and strategic alliances, with a sharp aesthetic eye and curiosity that translates complexity and tension into insight and collaboration. El Juego is a diverse collective of over 30 individuals, investigating how to build cultures based on authenticity and responsibility, using conflict as a doorway to growth. Since 2016, El Juego has been living and working together, developing an approach that is interdisciplinary, non-prescriptive, and deeply rooted in personal and collective experimentation. Johanna Hallbauer explains the ERDE Method to help address Eco-Anxiety and Finding Yourself This episode is for coaches, facilitators, social entrepreneurs, and anyone who has ever felt stuck, burned out, or like they are doing things that no longer align with their values. It is also for those working in the sustainability or regeneration space who sense that their own cup is running low. In this conversation, I sit down with Johanna Halbauer, a systemic coach, facilitator and researcher, to explore her ERDE framework, an approach to regenerative coaching that she developed from her own lived experience. ERDE is an acronym standing for Emancipation, Regeneration, Dialogue and Emergence (or Unfoldment), and together we unpack what each of these phases actually means in practice. And what sets this method apart from traditional coaching is that it does not just focus on goals and cognitive conversation. It invites the nervous system into the process, draws on body intelligence and nature as a co-participant, and supports people in letting go of patterns that drain rather than sustain them. Johanna shares how regenerative coaching creates space for difficult emotions like grief, anger, eco-anxiety and overwhelm, and how it guides people back into action from a more connected, authentic place rather than from a place of achievement pressure. We also talk about specific somatic tools like bilateral tapping and pendulation that anyone can use to regulate their nervous system in everyday life. The key insight we keep coming back to is that slowing down is not the opposite of progress. It is the condition for it. 💡 HIGHLIGHTS of this Episode ✨ Regenerative coaching goes beyond goals: it includes the nervous system, the body and nature as active participants ✨ Feeling stuck often means acting out of alignment with your values, not a lack of effort ✨ Emancipation means letting go of old safety patterns that no longer serve you ✨ Nature is not just a backdrop for healing. It is a relationship partner and gives resonance ✨ Simple somatic tools like bilateral tapping can bring the nervous system back into balance within minutes 👋 ABOUT Johanna Hallbauer (she/her) Johanna Hallbauer is a researcher, coach, facilitator, and the founder of ERDE — a coaching approach that grew from her own journey of exploring how we can lead and live in tune with ourselves, others, and the planet. Since 2019, ERDE has been evolving as a learning process, weaving together regenerative leadership, systemic coaching, and trauma-informed methods.
