    "Put On the Coat" — A Lesson in Courage for Kids (and Everyone Else)

    The 5-Second version: When someone tries to make you small, wrap yourself in what's true about you and stand up straighter. A few weeks ago, the world lost a legend — Dolly Parton. But this isn't really about Dolly. It's about a coat. When Dolly was a kid, her mom stitched her a coat out of scraps of fabric. To Dolly, it was a masterpiece — because she could feel the love in every stitch. To the kids at school? It was something to mock her for. Here's the moment that matters: Dolly didn't take the coat off. She put it on anyway. She stood up. She let it be armor. That's the whole sermon in one image. You are going to be teased. Doubted. Made to feel like you're "not enough" — not enough money, not enough cool, not enough whatever. That's not a maybe. That's just life. The question was never whether that's going to happen. The question is: what are you going to wrap yourself in when it does? Paul says it too — put on the full armor of God, the armor of light. Same move Dolly made.     You Don’t Have to Feel Ready...

    When God Asks You to Do Something Scary What would you do if a bush caught fire—and then God started talking to you through it? 😳🔥 That’s exactly what happens to Moses. And then God makes things even more intense: God asks Moses to become a leader and take on something bigger than he ever imagined. Moses’ reaction? Pretty relatable. “Why me?” He’s nervous. He’s confused. He’s worried. He has questions. (And as one of our kids pointed out, he might even feel a little lightheaded!) But God doesn’t tell Moses, “Don’t be scared.” Instead, God gives him something even better: “I will be with you.” That’s the message our kids discover in this week’s children’s sermon. Doing something brave doesn’t mean you won’t feel nervous. It means remembering that you don’t have to do it alone.     We’re Better Together: What Unity Really Means

    What does it actually mean to live in unity? Turns out, kids have some pretty great answers. In this week’s children’s sermon, Rev. Madeline explores a line from the Psalms: “How good and pleasant it is to live in unity.” Together, the kids discover that unity isn’t about everyone being exactly the same. It’s about choosing kindness, respect, gratitude, and connection—even when getting along isn’t easy. And they also name the things that pull us apart: ignoring people, bullying, fighting, and leaving others out. With a new school year beginning, there’s a simple challenge for all of us: Remember that everyone you meet is one of God’s children. The new kid. The kid who annoys you.     Big Feelings, Brave Steps: Jesus Goes With You to School

    The first day of school can bring ALL the feelings. 🎒 You might be excited to see your friends. You might be nervous about a new class. You might wonder who you’ll sit with, whether people will be nice, or what this year is going to be like. And guess what? It’s okay to have big feelings when you’re doing something new. In this children’s sermon, Mother Paige talks with the kids about heading back to school and the story of Peter doing something he had never done before: stepping out of the boat and walking toward Jesus on the water. Peter was brave—but then he got scared and wobbly. And Jesus didn’t leave him. Jesus reached out and helped him. That’s the big idea for this school year: You don’t have to know exactly what’s going to happen. You just have to remember who goes with you.
