What does worship really mean, and have we reduced it to something God never intended it to be? In this episode of the House Fires Movement Podcast, CJ, Leana, Joy take an honest look at worship in the Church and the invitation to return to its true foundation. Worship is more than singing. It is sacrifice, surrender, obedience, consecration, and a life lived unto the Lord. Together, they explore the difference between worshiping God and simply creating a worship experience, asking hard questions about motive, performance, excellence, gifting, production, and whether success necessarily means God is pleased. They also talk about the importance of heart posture in worship leadership, why talent alone is never enough, how fear of man can keep us from freely responding to God, and why worship should create space for the Holy Spirit to interrupt our plans. This conversation is not a rejection of skill, preparation, creativity, instruments, or excellence. It is a call to redefine excellence itself: not as having the best production, but as having the right posture before the Lord. Maybe the crisis in worship is not that we have stopped singing about God. Maybe we have learned how to sing about God while still making the experience about us. It is time to come back to the altar, back to surrender, and back to the heart of worship.
