Spiritual Conference with HE ✠Jerome Lloyd: Nomen manet, res deest

This spiritual conference reflects on the central theme of Nuntiatoria CXXII: Nomen manet, res deest — “The name remains; the reality is lacking.” Beginning from the Incarnation, it argues that the Catholic Faith is necessarily embodied: words, signs, gestures, sacraments, sacred places and human actions matter because the Word was made flesh. The conference turns that principle inward, asking whether the Catholic name we bear corresponds to the reality of our lives. Christ’s raising of the widow’s son at Naim becomes the key image of restoration: He does not redefine death but restores life. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary then brings the theme to fulfilment, as Mary’s Fiat becomes flesh in the Incarnation. The spiritual lesson is one of correspondence and conversion: what we profess, worship and believe must increasingly take visible form in the life of grace.
