Episode 22 - What Every Man Needs: Why One Friend Isn’t Enough

Send a text In this episode of The Dead Man Talking Podcast, the conversation turns to something many men want but few know how to build: real friendship. Why do so many men feel alone—even when they’re surrounded by people? And why does Bob insist that a man doesn’t just need one close friend, but four to six brothers who truly know him? What begins as a lighthearted conversation quickly moves into deeper waters as the guys share stories of war, heartbreak, temptation, and the quiet struggles most men carry. Along the way, the group wrestles honestly with the cultural messages that taught men to “man up,” hide emotion, and face life alone. But they also explore the surprising truth that vulnerability is not weakness—it’s the doorway to real brotherhood. Drawing from Scripture, personal experience, and decades of friendship, they unpack why isolation can be dangerous and why the right group of friends can literally change the course of a man’s life. And as Bob reflects on friendship while walking through his own battle with terminal cancer, the conversation becomes even more powerful. This episode isn’t just about having buddies to hang out with—it’s about the kind of friendships that help a man face temptation, suffering, and even death with courage. If you’ve ever wondered why male friendship matters so much—or how to build it—this conversation will challenge and encourage you. Episode 20 - Sobering Cancer Update Inspires Multiple Resignations

Send a text At the start of the new year, the crew gets together again to talk about resolutions...rather resignations. The idea of resolutions is pretty common, but we take the liberty to add a spin on things and talk about the idea of resignations.  In this episode, we get a framework for crafting your very own resignations as well as hearing some of the resignations that the guys have put together themselves.  We also get an updated report on Bob's cancer journey as well as an update on the "Crack the Barrel" challenge.  Prompts for writing your own Resignations What version of yourself are you still striving to become that consistently produces anxiety rather than faithfulness? What limitation—temperamental, physical, relational, or circumstantial—have you been treating as an obstacle rather than a boundary God intends you to live and act within? Where are you sensing responsibility that God has never clearly assigned to you? What criticism or disappointment have you been trying to outgrow instead of accepting as part of faithful living and following Jesus? What failure in your past are you still struggling to get over? If you were to write one honest resignation for this year, what illusion would you be willing to release? You might begin simply: Resigned, that…  So, be thankful for… Closing Reflection The Christian life is not about finally becoming impressive enough for God to use. It is about becoming truthful enough to stop getting in the way. by Jason Janz (slightly edited)  You can donate to the ministry of Audra Smith, the Pastor's Widow, by clicking here.
