Made in America: Inside Faymonville’s $100m US Expansion

Faymonville is making its biggest move yet in North America: investing more than $100 million in its first US production facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. In this episode of Project Cargo Professionals, Luke King visits the Faymonville Group in Luxembourg to explore the company’s US expansion, its ambitions in the global heavy transport market and how the seventh generation of the Faymonville family is preparing the business for its next chapter. CEO Alexander Fickers explains why Faymonville chose Arkansas, how the new factory will bring production closer to its North American customers and why demand in the US is already exceeding the company’s current capacity. He also discusses the launch of Faymonville Group North America, which will give customers direct access to the group’s four brands: Faymonville, MAX Trailer, Cometto and Morelo. Luke also speaks with Anne Faymonville, Communications Team Lead, Board Member and part of the seventh generation, about the company’s evolution from a small Belgian blacksmith’s workshop to a global manufacturer – and the challenge of modernising a family business without losing the values that built it. Finally, Jeremy Keller, Head of Sales – Export, offers a wider view of the international market, including the highly specialised requirements of US operators, emerging opportunities in Brazil and Asia, and how Faymonville supports heavy transport customers around the world. We discuss: • Faymonville’s investment of more than $100 million in Little Rock • Why Arkansas was selected for the group’s first US factory • Plans to produce at least 500 additional vehicles annually in the first phase • The importance of locally produced, “Made in America” equipment • The launch of Faymonville Group North America • Bringing Faymonville, MAX Trailer, Cometto and Morelo closer to US customers • How US regulations influence trailer design and engineering • Faymonville’s journey from an 1843 blacksmith’s workshop to a global manufacturer • The role of the seventh generation in the family business • Opportunities in Brazil, Asia and other international markets • Whether more freight forwarders are investing in their own heavy transport equipment 🎥 Recorded at the Faymonville Group in Luxembourg for our Voices of Breakbulk Americas series. A Bigger Fleet, Big Ambitions in South America & Beyond | Peter de Bree, Jumbo CEO

Jumbo is preparing to expand its fleet from eight vessels to ten – while also embarking on a series of complex offshore projects in South America. In this episode of Project Cargo Professionals, Luke King sits down with Peter de Bree, CEO of Jumbo Maritime, to discuss the company’s growth plans, its new L-class heavy-lift vessels and the advantage of combining ocean transportation with offshore installation capability. One major focus is Argentina, where Jumbo has secured roles on three offshore projects. These include the landmark contract awarded to CoreMarine and Jumbo Offshore to transport and install the soft-yoke mooring systems, and perform the hook-up of the Hilli Episeyo FLNG and MKII FLNG vessels in Argentina’s Golfo San Matías. Peter explains why developments in Argentina are becoming increasingly visible to Jumbo, and how the company can collect complex structures in Europe or Asia, transport them across the world and then install them offshore using the same vessel. We discuss: • Jumbo’s three offshore projects in Argentina and the country’s growing importance • The Hilli Episeyo FLNG and MKII FLNG installation and hook-up project • Why combining shipping and offshore installation gives Jumbo a distinctive position • The two new L-class vessels scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029 • Why Jumbo chose larger cargo holds but reduced crane capacity to 2 x 1,200 tonnes • How employees, captains and engineers helped shape the new vessel design • Jumbo’s plan to grow its fleet from eight vessels to ten • Why the new ships will be methanol-ready rather than methanol-fuelled from delivery • The relationship between Jumbo, SAL and Intermarine through Jumbo-SAL-Alliance • Wind-assisted propulsion trials and how a 700-nautical-mile detour helped save fuel Peter also reflects on Jumbo’s history as a family-owned heavy-lift shipping company, his first 18 months as CEO and where he sees the strongest opportunities for its next phase of growth. 🎥 Recorded at Jumbo Maritime’s headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands for our Voices of Breakbulk Americas series. 👉 Connect with Peter on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-de-bree-0a53722/ Hosted by Luke King and produced by Prospect Communications, a specialist PR consultancy for the project cargo sector. BESS Is Booming. Can Project Logistics Keep Up? | Christian Ohlrich, Fluence

Battery energy storage systems are becoming one of the biggest growth markets in project logistics – and the volumes heading towards the industry are staggering. In this episode of Project Cargo Professionals, Luke King sits down with Christian Ohlrich, Head of Global Logistics at Fluence, to explore what is driving the global BESS boom, why the physical logistics requirement is growing even faster than industry revenues, and whether existing shipping and heavy-haul capacity can keep up. Christian explains why BESS logistics is less about moving one exceptional piece of cargo and more about delivering hundreds of heavy units to a precise, production-line schedule. With data centres being developed at extraordinary speed, a delayed battery delivery can prevent a facility from opening – potentially costing tens of millions of dollars. We discuss: • Why data centres are accelerating global demand for battery storage • How falling battery prices translate into even faster growth in physical cargo volumes • The dangerous-goods, vessel-capacity and on-deck stowage challenges surrounding BESS • Why Fluence is moving towards more modular product designs • How logistics earned a seat at the table during product development • Why Christian is “buying a schedule and a solution” – not simply freight • What freight forwarders must offer beyond a competitive price • The engineering ideas that can materially improve project execution • Why AI cannot replace trust, experience and strong supplier relationships • The trailers, trucks and specialist capacity the industry will need as projects become larger Christian also explains what logistics providers need to do if they want to enter the BESS market — from developing first-class dangerous-goods compliance to securing sufficient heavy-haul capacity. This episode forms part of Voices of Breakbulk Americas, celebrating the people, projects and partnerships shaping the project cargo and breakbulk industry. 🎥 Recorded online from Hamburg, Germany and Atlanta, USA 👉 Connect with Christian on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christianohlrich/ Hosted by Luke King and produced by Prospect Communications, a specialist PR consultancy for the project cargo sector. What’s Driving Latin America’s New Energy Project Cargo Boom?| Renata Malina Pfeffer, DHL

Latin America’s energy landscape is changing fast – and with it, the opportunities and challenges for project logistics. In this episode of Voices of Breakbulk Americas, Luke King sits down with Renata Malina Pfeffer, Regional Director of New Energy Sector, Latin America at DHL Global Forwarding, to explore where the next wave of project cargo is coming from, and what it takes to move it. São Paulo-based Renata has spent two decades in project logistics and has watched the Latin American market evolve from one dominated by oil & gas and major capital projects into a much broader and increasingly mature market. Today, wind, solar, battery energy storage, data centres, green hydrogen and biofuels are all creating new logistics requirements across the region. We discuss: Why data centres are becoming a major driver of new energy investment, particularly in northeast BrazilThe rapid growth of BESS – and the regulatory, safety, warehousing and shipping challenges that come with increasingly complex battery cargoBrazil’s project cargo resurgence, including booming transformer exports to North America and infrastructure bottlenecks around its major portsWhere the next opportunities are emerging, from Chile’s advanced battery storage market to new energy investment in MexicoChina’s growing role in Latin American infrastructure and energy projectsNearshoring, tariffs and changing trade patterns – and what they could mean for Latin American manufacturersWomen in project logistics, and Renata’s experience building a career in a traditionally male-dominated industry Brazil is a particularly fascinating part of the story. Transformer manufacturers are carrying major orderbooks driven by North American demand, while extraordinary volumes of specialised cargo are putting pressure on ports, roads and infrastructure. 🎥 Recorded in Rotterdam, Netherlands 👉 Connect with Renata on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/renata-malina-pfeffer-7465301/ Hosted by Luke King and produced by Prospect Communications, a specialist PR consultancy for the project cargo sector. Joel Valenzuela: Why San Diego Wants a Bigger Slice of America’s Project Cargo

California is home to some of America’s biggest container ports, but San Diego is building a different proposition – one centred on breakbulk, heavy lift and project cargo. In this episode of Voices of Breakbulk Americas, Luke King sits down with Joel Valenzuela, Vice President, Operations, Port of San Diego, to explore how the port is carving out a distinctive role in the US project cargo market. Joel explains why San Diego has chosen to specialise in non-containerised cargo, how two new all-electric mobile harbour cranes have given the port up to 400 tonnes of tandem lifting capacity, and why that could allow it to compete for projects far beyond Southern California, potentially even cargo traditionally routed through the Gulf Coast. The conversation also covers the growth of battery energy storage cargo, military logistics, opportunities from US mining projects, nearshoring in Mexico, tariffs and trade uncertainty, and the port’s $200 million-plus investment in greener operations. With project cargo treated as a priority rather than an afterthought, can San Diego persuade more shippers to look to the US West Coast? 🎥 Recorded live at Breakbulk Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. 👉 Connect with Joel on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joel-valenzuela-a9784a7/ Hosted by Luke King and produced by Prospect Communications, a specialist PR consultancy for the project cargo sector. What Actually Wins Work: How Project Cargo Shippers Decide — Live at Breakbulk Europe 2026

How do you keep your logistics operation under control when your business is growing 30%+ year on year? How can logistics providers win more project cargo business by leveraging their in-house engineering capability — rather than relying only on sales reps? And how could LSPs be helping shippers navigate the growing weight of global regulatory compliance, from CBAM to Article 232? These are just some of the questions addressed in this special episode, recorded live on the Breakbulk Live Stage at Breakbulk Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, and moderated by Luke King, This episode of Project Cargo Professionals offers a candid, no-filter panel of three senior logistics decision-makers — the people who actually decide which providers get the work. They are: Christian Ohlrich — Director of Global Logistics at Fluence Energy, one of the world's leading battery energy storage integrators, managing shipments of hundreds of 45-tonne-plus units to project sites across the globe. Steffen Blumhofer — Head of Trade, Transport and Logistics Sourcing at Hitachi Energy Germany, responsible for sourcing logistics for some of the largest power infrastructure projects in the world. Henk Alma — Logistics Manager at NEM Energy, a specialist manufacturer of heat recovery steam generators whose modules can weigh up to 220 tonnes — and whose project pipeline is, in his own words, "going berserk." In this session we get into what actually drives project cargo awards — and we go beyond HSE records and scorecard ratings. Christian makes a compelling case for why this industry will always be a people business, and why no scorecard will save you if the gut feeling isn't there. Henk explains why NEM cut its logistics provider pool from 80 companies down to a core group — and what it takes to get into that group and stay there. Steffen talks about the shift from transactional, project-by-project thinking to genuine long-term partnership, and what that means for providers willing to invest in the relationship. We also get into the changing cargo realities each of them is managing right now: Fluence's deliberate decision to go against the industry trend and break its BESS units apart rather than go bigger; Hitachi's approach to managing an increasingly complex global supply chain under constant geopolitical pressure; and NEM's deep dive into the regulatory headaches — CBAM, US Section 232, mill certificate demands — that are quietly consuming enormous management bandwidth at companies that don't have dedicated compliance departments. If you work in project cargo logistics and you want to understand how your customers think, this is the episode for you. 🎥 Recorded in Rotterdam, Netherlands 👉Connect with the panellists on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christianohlrich/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/henk-alma-51969137/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/steffen-blumhofer/ Produced by Prospect Communications, a specialist PR consultancy for the project cargo sector.
