Who Do You Become When the Old You Doesn't Fit Anymore

There is a specific kind of quiet that happens when you open your closet, and nothing in there feels like you anymore. Not because you have nothing to wear, but because the woman those clothes were bought for is not quite the woman standing there now. If you have felt that, this conversation is for you. I first recorded this with my friend Toi Sweeney, and when I watched it back, I realized it was never really about fashion. It is about identity. About confidence. About letting go of the woman you used to be so you can intentionally become the one this next chapter is asking for. So as you listen, keep one question in the back of your mind: who do I need to become for the life I am trying to build? What you'll hear: Why reinvention after 40 is not about becoming someone new, it is about becoming more of who you already areThe quiet grief of letting go of the version of you that fit your old lifeWhat your closet is really telling you about your identity, and how to dress the woman you are nowThe simplest place to start when getting dressed has become pure decision fatigueWhy your body, your season, and your sense of self all keep shifting, and how to meet that with honesty instead of shameAbout the guest: Toi Sweeney is an award-winning fashion stylist, brand image strategist, speaker, and best-selling author of Secrets of a Well Dressed Brand: The Art of Increasing Your Perceived Value. She spent nearly two decades at QVC as a style director dressing on-air hosts, and is the founder of The Well Dressed Brand. Find her at toisweeney.com. You're Not Choosing the Wrong People… You're Repeating a Pattern

Download your Identity Audit resource: https://lifeover40withjese.myflodesk.com/identityaudit Have you ever found yourself asking... "Why does this keep happening?" Whether it's dating the same type of person, struggling to set boundaries, outgrowing friendships, or feeling emotionally exhausted, many of us unknowingly repeat relationship patterns that keep us stuck. In this episode of Life Over 40, I sit down with relationship coach and author Alfina Lofaro to explore why our childhood experiences, beliefs, and unconscious habits continue to shape our relationships well into adulthood—and, more importantly, how we can begin to change them. This conversation isn't just about romantic relationships. It's about the relationship you have with yourself, your friends, your family, your career, and the life you're intentionally creating after 40. If you've been craving healthier relationships, more joy, and a deeper understanding of yourself, this episode is for you. In this episode, we discuss: ✔️ Why we repeat the same relationship patterns ✔️ How childhood experiences influence adult relationships ✔️ The importance of self-awareness and curiosity ✔️ Setting healthy boundaries without creating conflict ✔️ Why safety and trust matter in every relationship ✔️ People-pleasing, communication, and emotional patterns ✔️ How to create healthier, more fulfilling relationships after 40 About Alfina Lofaro: Alfina Lofaro is a relationship coach, kinesiologist, speaker, and author of Love Deliberately. This is the story of the moment that woke me up, and the small choice I finally made after letting fear sit in the driver's seat for way too long. What you will hear: - The question I had to ask myself before anything changed, and why "nothing is wrong" is sometimes the hardest place to leave - How being the responsible one quietly became my whole identity - Why I took a Monday off in the middle of the day to go to fan fest, and what "a season of frolicking" actually means - The free application I let fear stop me from finishing, and the day I finally submitted it - Four questions and one small challenge to help you start choosing today instead of waiting for someday About Life Over 40: Life Over 40 is a place for women who are ready to stop surviving and start living intentionally. Tired of Living Everyone Else's Dream? Do This After 40

Struggling with loss of identity? Download my free resource: https://lifeover40withjese.myflodesk.com/identityaudit For decades, you were the responsible one; now you want to live intentionally. Are you finding yourself asking, "Who am I now?" If that is where you are, you are not broken, and you are not alone. That is more than half of us quietly trying to find ourselves again. In this solo episode, I am walking you through how I moved from reactive living to intentional living, and how the book On Your Terms helped me rewrite what success actually means for my life now that I am 45. Here is what we get into: - Why redefining success without apologizing for it is the first real step - The personal vision statement exercise that changed how I say yes and no - Why I stopped trying to monetize every joy (and the one hobby rule I gave myself) - What it really means to "glow up" after 40, and why it is internal, not external - The daily question I now ask: does this move me toward the woman I am becoming? This season is not a midlife crisis. It is a different chapter with new purpose. You did not lose yourself. You were building. Now you get to choose what comes next, on your own terms. I am not done. I am just getting started, and if you are over 40, neither are you. My Doctor Said "Your Eggs Are Dying" Instead of Perimenopause

Have you had the moment where you reacted to something so small that the size of what came out of you scared you? And then you spent the rest of the day apologizing to your family, to yourself, wondering if this is who you are now. It isn't. In this episode of Life Over 40, Jese sits down with holistic health coach and certified menopause coaching specialist Jessica Long for the conversation almost nobody is having out loud. Jessica brings the science of what is actually happening in our bodies after 40, starting with the day her own OBGYN told her "your eggs are dying" instead of saying the word perimenopause. Jese brings the lived experience of being on the other side of the shame loop. Together they say the quiet thing out loud. About Jessica Long: Jessica is a holistic health coach, certified menopause coaching specialist, and breath work facilitator who works with midlife women navigating perimenopause and hormonal change. She is the host of the Midlife Advice podcast (formerly Belong Wellness), a wife, and a mama of two little ones in the thick of her own perimenopause journey. Find her at belongwellness.com and on Instagram @belongwellness. About Life Over 40: Hosted by Jese Gary, a woman in her 40s who believes this season is a beginning, not a decline. The Realistic Morning Routine for Women Over 40 (No 5AM Needed)

Have you ever woken up and felt behind before your feet even hit the floor? Reaching for your phone, scrolling, responding to messages, thinking about everyone else's needs — and suddenly the day feels reactive instead of intentional?  If that sounds familiar, you are not lazy. You are not behind. And you definitely don't need to start waking up at 5 AM to fix it.  In this episode, Jese gets honest about why the rigid, 10-step, 5 AM "miracle morning" routines flooding social media aren't built for women over 40 — and what she's actually doing instead. After years of being the overachiever with the perfectly slotted 15-minute checklist (and the mid-day naps to recover from it), she's found a gentler, more realistic approach that actually fills her cup before the world starts pulling from it.  The core idea: you don't need a full morning routine. You need one intentional anchor habit that signals to your nervous system, "I'm ready. I'm grounded. I'm not behind."  In this episode:  Why the morning routines that worked in your 20s and 30s stop working after 40 (your energy has changed — that's not failure, that's truth)The "anchor habit" concept — one small intentional action that can steer your entire dayWhy your morning actually starts the night before, and the bedtime boundary Jese had to set with her phoneJese's realistic, ADHD-friendly morning routine (and the moments she still falls short)The truth about "wins before requests" — and why it's so hard to give from an empty cupThe reminder you need to hear: your morning doesn't have to impress anyone — it needs to support you If you've been blaming yourself for not being able to maintain the 5 AM routines you see online, this episode is your permission slip to stop.
