Evening Sermon - 1st November 2026 - Grace, Satan's Accusations, and Christ the Branch

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this Sunday evening study from Zechariah chapter 3, the Reverend George Speers explores the vision of Joshua the high priest standing in filthy garments before the angel of the Lord, with Satan accusing him. Rev Speers shows how the chapter reveals both the power of God’s grace to cleanse sinners and rebuke the accuser, and the promise of the coming Saviour — God’s servant the Branch — who alone can deal fully with sin. It is a rich, Christ-centred look at how undeserved grace and the finished work of Jesus answer every accusation brought against God’s people. Bible passages referenced: • Zechariah 3:1-10 • Job 1:9-11 (alluded to) • Revelation 12:10 (quoted) • Isaiah 61:10 (quoted) • Isaiah 53:5 (paraphrased) • John 13:1-17 (alluded to) • Mark 10:45 (alluded to) • Isaiah 49:6 (quoted) • Jeremiah 23:5 (paraphrased) • Psalm 118:22 (quoted) • Hebrews 9:12 (quoted)

Morning Sermon - 1st November 2026 - Why the Cross Was Necessary

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Hebrews 10, the Reverend George Speers asks why Jesus had to die the way he did, and whether God could have saved sinners by some other means. Rev Speers grounds his answer in the nature of God — his love and his holiness — before setting out four lines of biblical evidence for the absolute necessity of the atonement: Gethsemane, the Emmaus road, the holiness of God, and the teaching of Hebrews. He concludes that the cross is not one option among several but the only way consistent with who God is. Bible passages referenced: • Hebrews 10:1-18 • Ephesians 1:11 (quoted) • John 3:16 (quoted) • 1 John 4:10 (quoted) • Galatians 2:20 (quoted) • Romans 3:25 (quoted) • Romans 3:26 (paraphrased) • Matthew 26:39 (quoted) • Luke 24:26 (quoted) • Matthew 16:21 (paraphrased) • Exodus 34:7 (quoted) • Hebrews 10:4 (quoted) • Hebrews 9:23 (quoted)

Evening Sermon - 25th October 2026 - Why the Occult Is Wrong

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Deuteronomy 18:9-14, the Reverend George Speers asks why the occult is wrong, examining what occult practices involve, how Scripture condemns them, why God prohibits them so strongly, and where true knowledge and power are found instead. Drawing on Kurt Koch, C. S. Lewis and Neil T. Anderson alongside numerous biblical examples, Rev Speers warns against both ignorance of and unhealthy fascination with demonic power, and points listeners to Christ as the only source of genuine deliverance and knowledge. Bible passages referenced: • Deuteronomy 18:9-14 • 2 Corinthians 2:11 (quoted) • Ephesians 6:12 (quoted) • 1 Samuel 28 (alluded to) • Acts 7:22 (or Exodus 7:11, 7:22) (alluded to) • Acts 8:9-11 (alluded to) • Acts 16:16-18 (alluded to) • Numbers 22 (alluded to) • 2 Kings 17:17 (quoted) • Isaiah 2:6 (paraphrased) • Galatians 5:20 (quoted) • Revelation 21:8 (paraphrased) • Deuteronomy 29:29 (quoted) • Genesis 3:1-6 (alluded to) • Philippians 4:13 (quoted) • Ephesians 6:10-12 (paraphrased) • 1 John 4:4 (quoted) • Exodus 7:11-12, 22 (alluded to) • Numbers 22-24 (alluded to) • Mark 5:1-13 (or Luke 8:26-33) (alluded to) • Acts 26:18 (paraphrased) • 1 John 5:19 (paraphrased) • Ephesians 2:1-3 (paraphrased)

Morning Sermon - 25th October 2026 - William Tyndale and the Gift of an English Bible

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. Marking the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale’s English New Testament, the Reverend George Speers traces Tyndale’s courageous life, his translation work, his recovery of core Reformation doctrine, and his lasting influence on the English language and the spread of the gospel. Preaching from Romans 10:8-17, Rev Speers draws out the simple but urgent invitation that Tyndale died for: that anyone, however ordinary, can call on the name of the Lord and be saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. Bible passages referenced: • Romans 10:8-17 • Habakkuk 2:4 (alluded to) • Romans 1:17 (alluded to) • Romans 3:23 (paraphrased) • Romans 6:23 (paraphrased) • Genesis 1:3 (quoted) • Genesis 4:9 (quoted) • Matthew 5 (alluded to)

Belfast Church Flute Band - 18th October 2026 - Dead in Sin, Alive by Grace

The Belfast Church Flute Band at Ballynahinch Congregational Church. Beginning with a reading from Ephesians 2, this sermon explains that all people have sinned and stand under God’s judgment, and that no amount of church attendance, good behaviour or religious background can save us. Salvation is shown to be God’s gift alone, received through faith in Christ, who bore the punishment for sin at the cross. The sermon closes with a direct call to repent and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Bible passages referenced: • Ephesians 2:1-10 • Romans 3:23 (quoted) • Romans 5:8 (quoted) • Romans 8:1 (quoted)

Morning Sermon - 18th October 2026 - Repentance, Mercy, and the Barren Fig Tree

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend Charles Collins. Preaching from Luke 13:1-9 on a visit to Ballynahinch Congregational Church, the Reverend Charles Collins explores why Jesus links reports of a massacre and a fatal accident to the call to repentance. Rev Collins argues that the way someone dies says nothing about their standing before God, and that only repentance and faith in Jesus determine our eternal destiny. Using the parable of the barren fig tree, he reflects on God’s patient mercy towards those who have not yet borne fruit, while warning that this mercy will not last forever. Bible passages referenced: • Luke 13:1-9 • Hebrews 11:35-38 (quoted) • Matthew 3:7-8 (paraphrased) • Mark 1:15 (paraphrased) • Acts 17:30-31 (quoted) • Psalm 23:6 (alluded to) • Luke 23:39-43 (alluded to) • Mark 2:17 (paraphrased)

Morning Sermon - 11th October 2026 - Adam, Covenant Breaking, and the Need for a Saviour

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Romans 5:12-21, the Reverend George Speers explores why a Saviour is needed at all, tracing the tragic state of the unrepentant back to Adam’s covenant breaking in Eden. Rev Speers works through three themes — covenant breaking by Adam, covenant union with Adam, and covenant breaking by all humanity — to show how every person inherits guilt and spiritual death through their representative head, Adam, setting up the hope found only in Christ, the head of the covenant of grace. Bible passages referenced: • Romans 5:12-21 • Genesis 3:8 (alluded to) • Genesis 3:6 (alluded to) • Genesis 3 (alluded to) • Hebrews 9:27 (quoted) • 1 Corinthians 15:22 (quoted) • Romans 5:12 (quoted) • Romans 5:18 (quoted) • Romans 5:19 (quoted) • Psalm 51:5 (quoted)

Evening Sermon - 4th October 2026 - A Tale of Two Cities: Babylon and Zion in Zechariah

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this seventh message in his series on Zechariah, the Reverend George Speers explores chapter two’s vision of the measuring line, reading it through Augustine’s famous contrast between the city of man and the city of God. Drawing on Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities for his title, Rev Speers traces God’s coming judgment on Babylon, the promised salvation and indwelling presence for Zion, and the identity of the angel of the Lord as the pre-incarnate Christ, before closing with three commands for God’s people: flee the wrath to come, sing and rejoice, and be silent before the Lord. Bible passages referenced: • Zechariah 2:1-13 • Zechariah 1:11 (alluded to) • Exodus 9:16 (quoted) • Revelation 14-18 (alluded to) • Revelation 16:6 (paraphrased) • Revelation 15:4 (quoted) • Deuteronomy 32:9-10 (paraphrased) • Psalm 17:8 (quoted) • Ephesians 2:15 (paraphrased) • John 1:14 (paraphrased) • John 5:36 (quoted) • Hebrews 12:22-24 (quoted) • Matthew 3:7 (quoted) • Zephaniah 3:14-17 (paraphrased) • Philippians 4:4 (quoted) • Mark 4:39 (alluded to)
