Episode 5 Part 2: The Eight Limbs Of Yoga With Katja Patel

Send us a text In this second part of my lovely conversation with Katja, we continue looking at the Eight Limbs of Yoga. We continue to discuss our interpretations of what they mean and how we can  apply them to our practice and modern, everyday life. We begin our conversation with a brief look at Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, and I reference my copy which is translated and commentaried by Swami Satchidananda. Please see the link below. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yoga-Sutras-Patanjali-Swami-Satchidananda/dp/1938477073 We then have a recap of the first 3 limbs we discussed in Part 1: Yama & Niyama, Asana, Pranayama,  and then we fturn our focus back on Pratyahara the 4th Limb.  Its a conversation full of what the key parts of a full yoga practice are and how they are still as powerful and relevant today to our holistic health, and development of our consciousness today as they have ever been. I really hope you enjoy it. The last part of our conversation will follow shortly, in part 3. Episode 5 Part 1: Exploring The Eight limbs of Yoga With Katja Patel

Send us a text In this episode I'm joined again by my lovely Yoga teacher Katja Patel to begin exploring The Eight Limbs of Yoga. We thought we might be able to summarise each of the limbs within one episode but we definitely bit off more than we could chew here, and once we got going we found ourselves diving deeply into the many layers, meanings, practical applications and interpretations of each of the limbs.  The Eight Limbs were recorded in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras as a systematised approach to a yoga practice and they describe each of the interrelating and enmeshed "brances" of Hatha Yoga. Each branch or limb is part of a holistic system so one should not be practiced without the others in some form. If you missed my first conversation with the lovely Katja where I introduce her and all her incredible knowledge and share her contact details in the shownotes you can listen here:  https://open.spotify.com/episode/3j3PdKyA0fCLl7ssAPS8CW?si=X97QbT-sRiO55NcfYY3XoA Ifyou also missed the episode on the Yamas & Niyamas the first two limbs, its worth taking a listen here:  https://open.spotify.com/episode/0OzBN9kWyvbpkLJMO1dwxZ?si=7HxV69iqRk-ykfezcbOSQg If you have any comments, questions or anything you would like to hear about related to this podcast, I'd love to hear from you. Episode 4: A Conversation On Death & Loss

Send us a text In this sensitive epiosde I talk about a subject that I feel is still pretty taboo in our western culture. With or without the framework of religion, many people in our society are afraid to talk about death and will go out of their way to avoid it. Whilst other cultures around the world openly accept death as an integral part of lifes miraculous cycle, and in so doing create more community and support for those that are dying and grieving. I talk all around this issues and expplore how our yoga practice can help us grieve, create community and perhaps begin to shift our perpectives of life and death and the material world versus the spiritual world. In this episode I mentioned this amazing Ram Dass Podcast-you can listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6xzDDgZapWfakKIHW4vXMV I alos spoke about the Bhakti Yogi and Death Doula Matt, you can find him here on Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/madhumatt/  He also does his own podcast on death which is beautiful-you can find this on his profile. Episode 14: A Conversation With My First Guest & Yoga Teacher Trainer Katja Patel

Send us a text In this lovely first conversation with my amazing yoga teacher trainer Katja, we talk about what bought Katja onto the yogic path, being human as a yoga teacher, religion versus spirituality, discipline in our yoga practice and how trust and faith in the practice and process is a vital part of the journey.  We also talk about how we are sent the right teachers at the right time, how self-doubt, a lack of self-worth and inertia can limit us all, and how we can use the practice to take us over the line into action and back into a state of balance and greater self-belief. Katja Patel has been practising Hatha yoga for over 30 years and teaching for 25 years. She has a wealth of knowledge in Ayurveda, yogic philosophy and anatomy. I had the great honour of being her student and now I can happily call her a dear friend. I hope you enjoy this beautiful conversation as much as we did.
