Psalm 3:5 NIVI lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. Today’s devotional talks about in everyday life, there’s always something worry about. Whether it’s health, finances, relationships, or details, there are many unknowns that can easily keep us worrying. When we trust in God, we can rest assured knowing that He’s got it all under control, even if it seems chaotic on this side of heaven. Our need to “control” things seems out of control when we cannot control things. We naturally want everything to fall into place as it should according to our standards. But what if we totally let go and let God?The Bible says: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)This means since he has eternal love then his mercy will be as well because they are connected. The statement that God’s mercies are new every morning is really a reminder to us. God gives mercy for each day and it is refilled and refreshed each morning. That no matter what we face each day, when the enemy is relentless in trying to beat your spirits down, rest assured that because we our children of God, that God’s love will prevail and that He will sustain us. We get a fresh start of mercies every day. We can confidently come to the throne and ask for forgiveness and mercy and God will give us grace. He is a forgiving God. Sometimes, what happens in our daily lives is truly out of our control, out of our hands — and all we can do is surrender and say, “God, I can’t — but You can.”This reminds me of something that happened this week. I was a lunch meeting with my co-workers. The restaurant was a well-known place with healthy selections on its menu. I ordered a vegetarian-friendly. Afterwards, we went next door to get gelato. That was a no-no. My tummy needed time to digest from the sandwich, but instead of being nice to my body, I decided to overload with gelato. When I got back to the office, my tummy was bloated beyond anything I had ever seen. I was uncomfortable, I was doubled-over, and I could not breathe. I managed to get through the next few hours left of my work day, but driving home was a chore, to say the least. Once I got home which was around 6:00 PM, by 6:30 PM I was put on the loosest pieces of clothing I could find and crawled into bed almost in tears. I needed to sleep. I needed to rest. I think I only woke up once to run to the bathroom (I drank a ton of water). I didn’t even care I went to bed with makeup on — I completely skipped my nightly skincare routine and didn’t shower because I just was NOT well! When I woke up, it was 5:30 AM the next morning. I slept 11 hours. I never ever sleep longer than 6-7 hours in a day. Clearly, my body was done dealing with me and said it was shutting down for the night. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We were sleeping and that was that. End of discussion. My body knew what it was doing. It knew by morning everything would be OK. And it was. My body felt 100x better. The bloating had subsided, the dizziness had gone away. I didn’t feel nauseous anymore. It was the rest I absolutely needed. I had to surrender, not fight it anymore and just sleep. He woke me up and gave me breath. It was a new day. It reminded me that in the stillness, in the quiet of the night, God was working and healing my body. God was not only working in the background, but He was preparing a new day for me. God is gracious. God is merciful. He is faithful. His mercies are new every morning. Whatever season you’re going through, trust and believe that God’s got you. He hears your prayers. Sometimes all we can do is just rest in His promise and trust He has everything under control.God is ON AIR and so are we!
