  1. Intern Annie

    MAR 2

    Intern Annie

Time to meet Intern Annie and dive into one of the most delightfully unfiltered, coffee-shop‑style episodes of the Fishbag Podcast yet. From Minnesota lakes and busted knees to conspiracy theories and AI, this one has big youth‑group‑couch energy—with a surprising amount of depth under all the laughter. Meet Intern Annie (and Her Wobbly Knees)JP sits down with Annie, the newest intern at YWAM Barcelona, to talk life, calling, and why she randomly bought a plane ticket to the other side of the world at 18 just to serve kids and Jesus. You’ll hear about her small-town Minnesota roots, her love-hate relationship with hockey culture, and why cross‑country skiing totally owns her heart—even though her knees like to dislocate at the worst possible moments. Guns, Popeyes, and Small-Town AmericaThe conversation spirals (in the best way) into classic American territory: Walmarts, Targets, Starbucks counts, terrible local Popeyes, and whether there should be guns under every bed. Between jokes about never having shot a gun and longing for Chick‑fil‑A instead of disappointing fried chicken, Annie and JP paint a vivid, funny snapshot of Midwest life that expats and Americans alike will recognize instantly. Called to Teach the Next GenerationUnderneath the jokes is a serious sense of calling: Annie wants to teach kids and shape “the future of America” as an elementary teacher. She shares how serving in kids’ ministry at church awakened her passion for discipling children, helping them become change‑makers, and maybe blending that with Bible teaching—whether in public school, Christian school, or somewhere in between. Here in Barcelona, she’s testing that out by designing kids’ events around themes like friendship and how to make friends in a big, often isolating city. Friendship, Crafts, and Adult LonelinessThe two talk about how making friends gets harder as adults and joke about running a “How to Make Friends” course for grown‑ups—with crafts, games, and all the kid stuff we secretly still want. Annie unpacks her heart for using creativity, play, and quality time to help kids (and maybe adults) become more like Jesus in very practical, relational ways. AI, Creativity, and Choosing Resistance Over ShortcutsIn a surprisingly timely turn, JP folds Annie into his ongoing AI research for his dissertation. Annie admits she used to lean on AI a lot in high school, but she’s now intentionally pulling back because it was making her less creative and too dependent on something that always agrees with her. They explore procrastination, productivity pressure, and why we’re so tempted to offload hard work to AI instead of letting resistance grow our brains, our skills, and our character. From recipes to homework to event planning, they wrestle with how to keep humans—and the Holy Spirit—at the center of the creative process. Stuff, Novelty, and a Better Way to LiveThe episode closes with a thoughtful riff on consumerism: cheap stuff that breaks, planned obsolescence, and our addiction to “new.” JP and Annie wonder aloud whether a less cluttered, less hyper‑consuming life might actually make us more grateful, more present, and more creative with what we already have—both in our homes and in our hearts. If you love YWAM stories, creative discipleship, gentle roasting of American culture, and real talk about AI and formation, this episode is your jam. And if you’re dreaming about doing an internship or DTS with YWAM Barcelona, Annie’s story might be the nudge you’ve been waiting for. 2. Creating with AI and Jesus, what could go wrong? With James Tyson

    FEB 20

Creating with AI and Jesus, what could go wrong? With James Tyson

AI, creativity, and faith collide in this experimental Fishbag episode as JP shares a raw WhatsApp voice-note conversation with his good friend James, a musician, artist and writer who is currently in India wrestling with how to use AI without losing his soul—or his songwriting. Drawing from his research on AI and creativity, JP unpacks why how we create matters just as much as what we make, especially for Fish Baggers raising kids in an AI-saturated world. What’s Inside This Episode JP kicks things off by framing the big question James brings: if AI-generated music deeply moves people, does it really matter how it was made—or if a human actually “did the work”? Along the way, they explore who the real stakeholders are in creative process: the listener, the artist, and God. You’ll hear about a recent MIT study, “Your Brain on ChatGPT,” that scanned students’ brains while they wrote essays with and without AI help, revealing that starting with AI dramatically lowers deep brain engagement, long-term memory, and sense of ownership over the work. Students who used AI from the beginning couldn’t recall their own writing and felt detached from it, even when the essays scored well. This opens up a crucial discipleship and parenting question: are we quietly training a generation to outsource their thinking—and their creativity? JP and James then zoom out to what researchers are seeing at scale: when lots of people rely on AI to create, the overall diversity of what gets made shrinks, even if each individual output looks clever and polished. Because generative models lean on probability and “most likely next steps,” they tend to push groups of creators toward similar patterns, vibes, and structures over time. That has big implications for art, worship, and culture if followers of Jesus just ride the AI wave uncritically. But this isn’t an anti‑AI rant. JP highlights research showing that when humans lead the process—creating first from their own minds and then inviting AI in as a late-stage helper—creativity and confidence actually increase. In other words, AI works best as an augmentation tool, not a starting point: you wrestle with the idea, then let AI help you refine, not replace, your creative labor. That’s exactly where James’ story comes in. From the streets of India, background noise and all, he shares how he’s been using AI tools like Suno with his own guitar parts, Psalm 139 lyrics, and vocal experiments—not as a magic wand, but as a strange new “mentor” that stretches his phrasing, chord choices, and vocal range. He describes the uneasy feeling of letting AI do everything versus the joy of co-creating with God, guitar in hand, like he did during his DTS days in YWAM Barcelona. The episode lands in a deeply pastoral place: compartmentalizing AI, protecting holy creative spaces with God, and refusing to trade process for product. Perfect for parents, musicians, worship leaders, creatives, and any Fish Bagger wondering how to walk wisely with AI without surrendering their God-given creative muscle. 3. Getting Unstuck, Finding Your Path of passion – With Coach Nooch Saeedi

Getting Unstuck, Finding Your Path of passion – With Coach Nooch Saeedi

In this Fish bag episode, JP sits down with NEW/ Old Barcelona friend and life coach Nooch Saeedi to talk about what it really means to get “unstuck” in life, work, and calling. This is a super practical, story‑driven conversation for Fish Baggers who feel like they keep ending up in the same situations with the same frustrating results. Life in Barcelona & Finding Community JP kicks things off by introducing Nooch as one of those “extended family” people who orbit YWAM Barcelona – deeply involved, but not officially on staff. They talk about moving to Barcelona in early 2025, learning to love the city, navigating language barriers, and how community has become a key part of their family’s life and rhythm. From Psych Grad School to Coaching Nooch unpacks his journey from being nearly finished with a PhD in psychology to walking away from academia during COVID and stumbling into a health and wellness coaching job that changed everything. He shares how mentoring, listening, and asking good questions felt strangely easy for him, and how that feedback from clients helped him recognize a genuine gift for coaching people through stuck places. What Coaching Actually Looks Like If you’ve ever wondered, “Do I need a coach or a therapist?” this part is for you. Nooch explains how coaching overlaps with therapy in helping people gain self‑awareness, but stays more goal‑driven and future‑focused, often around patterns like repeating the same unhealthy job or relationship dynamics over and over again. He describes early coaching sessions as a space to identify whether something in your life really needs to change, or whether your mindset and perspective are what actually need the shift. Career, Calling, and Not Burning Out The conversation moves into career coaching, motivation, and the lies we believe about work—whether it’s “just get a paycheck and live for the weekend” or “find the one perfect dream job or your life is a failure.” Nuch talks about helping people discover what parts of their current work they actually enjoy, how to tweak roles instead of ditching everything, and why long‑term health often looks like planning date nights and strengthening marriage, not just “killing it” at the office. They also touch on imposter syndrome, grades, and why what you put into learning shapes how equipped you really are for the next season. Who Nooch Loves to Coach Toward the end, Nooch shares the kinds of people he especially loves working with: early‑career adults trying to figure out their direction, and parents of young kids trying to juggle identity, marriage, parenting, and vocation without burning out. Whether you’re in Barcelona or halfway around the world, he’s available to coach remotely and help you narrow down what truly matters in this stage of your life. 4. A secret Domain

    FEB 4

    A secret Domain

The Deep Work of Creativity and Faith This week on The Fishbag Podcast, JP dives into the relationship between creativity, excellence, and faith—asking one bold question: If we’re made in the image of the Creator, shouldn’t we be the most creative people on the planet? Coming from YWAM Barcelona, JP shares fresh inspiration after meeting the incredible team from Central Arts, a group of professional artists who love Jesus and are launching a movement connecting faith and creativity across Europe. Their passion sparks a wider conversation on what it means for Christians to pursue mastery—not just inspiration—in their craft. JP explores the idea of domain expertise—that deep, hard-won knowledge and skill in any field that enables true innovation. He contrasts this with the tendency many Christians have to expect God to simply “make it happen,” when, in reality, excellence often grows through perseverance and collaboration with Him in the process. Drawing from thinkers like Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and his concept of flow, JP unpacks how that beautiful sense of timeless focus during the act of creation might actually be one of the purest ways we experience partnership with God. From music to business, design to dance, he challenges Fish Baggers to push the boundaries of their creative domains—to become so skilled and immersed that they can meet God in those specific, intricate, one-of-a-kind spaces. Because maybe that’s where worship becomes work, and work becomes wonder. Throughout the conversation, JP reflects on the tension between relying on grace and doing “good works.” He shares how we often confuse trying to earn God’s favor with leaning into the good work He designed us for—creative, loving, and excellent stewardship that reflects His nature. Doing work with God, not for Him, is where real artistry and purpose come alive. If you’re a creative who’s ever wrestled with doubt, burnout, or feeling “less inspired” in your walk with God, this episode will remind you that He’s not just watching from afar—He’s in the process, in the sketch, in the song, in the silence. He loves to go deep with you in your area of expertise and share that sacred space where creation and Creator intertwine. So whether you’re chopping wood, composing symphonies, or coding your next app—lean in this week and rediscover the joy of holy craftsmanship. 5. Have you ever SHOT Yourself in the Foot ?!

    JAN 27

Have you ever SHOT Yourself in the Foot ?!

JP is back, Fish Baggers. After grinding through finals and officially finishing his university classes, he’s returning to the mic with a big life update and an even bigger question: are we quietly shooting ourselves in the foot with how we use AI? This episode blends story, theology, creativity, and future-of-work talk in a way that feels raw, hopeful, and super relevant for anyone navigating faith in a digital age. Big Life Update & YWAM Barcelona News JP shares what it feels like to wake up on a Monday and not have class for the first time in years, plus how his wife is celebrating the end of this long season of study. He gives an inside look at ongoing YWAM Barcelona rhythms, including Monday night and Friday morning gatherings where people dig into Scripture and learn simple ways to actually walk out their faith in community. There are interns on the way, a “Let There Be” art intensive in the works, and the possibility of Creative Nights returning now that his school schedule has opened up. From “Shooting Yourself in the Foot” to AI Habits To frame the episode, JP tells a hilarious and slightly painful family story about his dad literally shooting himself in the foot as a kid. That personal moment becomes a parable: in our excitement over new tools, we can rush ahead, pre-c**k the “gun,” and end up sabotaging our own mission. JP then applies this image to personalized AI and asks whether our everyday habits with tech are quietly undermining the very creativity and depth we’ll need for the future. Gen Z, Digital Natives, and the Future of Work JP’s capstone research focuses on Gen Z, the first truly digital-native generation to grow up with unsupervised internet, social media, and now AI. He explores how their largely self-taught patterns with technology may shape their role as future leaders and workers. Millennials, Gen X, and Gen Alpha all show up in the conversation as he reflects on how each generation relates differently to tech, formation, and responsibility. At the core is one question: are current AI habits building creative scaffolding or slowly eroding deep domain expertise? Creativity, Mastery, and a 10,000-Hour Calling Inspired by the idea of mastery and the 10,000-hour journey toward expertise, JP shares how business school unexpectedly steered him toward HR, development, and the science of creativity. He now feels called to spend the next decade helping individuals, teams, and ministries design environments where creativity can thrive. From YWAM Barcelona to the global Church and even places like China, his long-term vision is to equip people to solve real problems with Spirit-led, skill-rich innovation. Best Length for Your Description For episode descriptions like this, an optimal range is usually around 350–500 words, which fits comfortably under a 4,000-character limit while still being SEO-friendly and skimmable on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. He shares how God keeps bringing him back to three simple but powerful truths: abide, delight, and struggle. It’s not about getting everything right the first time — it’s about learning and playing with the “gifts” God has placed in your hands. From the story of his old high school internship, to a hilarious yet meaningful reflection on his kids learning backflips at a trampoline park, JP draws parallels between spiritual growth and the way a loving father teaches his children through play and practice. God, he says, isn’t rushing us toward perfection — He’s inviting us into partnership. Into process. Into joy. And that’s the heartbeat of this entire episode: life with God isn’t linear. It’s a living, breathing conversation. We don’t have to perform for Him — we just bring our toys (our talents, our hopes, our work) into His presence and let relationship shape the rest. 🧠 Why Struggle Might Be the Best Gift You Have Pulling insights from the book Make It Stick, JP reflects on how learning through difficulty actually rewires our brains for mastery — much like how God uses struggle to shape the strength, endurance, and depth of our faith. When things get tough, it’s not punishment; it’s practice. He reframes “failure” as a sacred space where God forms us into people who can handle and carry His goodness into the world. Every challenge becomes a classroom. Every delay, a setup for deeper trust. Every confusing moment, an invitation to abide just a little longer and ask better questions. And in JP’s words — it’s okay to not have it all figured out, because our Father is far more interested in being with us than grading our performance. 🎨 What’s Coming in 2026 with YWAM Barcelona JP also teases the exciting season ahead at YWAM Barcelona. After the Follow Me Internship, the community is preparing for the week-long Let There Be Intensive, created for artists, creatives, and dreamers who want to integrate their professional work with their faith. Then comes Rebirth, a transformative program built for those deconstructing, rebuilding, or rediscovering how to follow Jesus in the modern world — honestly and with authenticity. It’s clear: 2026 is already shaping up to be a year of new beginnings, renewed relationships, and rediscovered purpose. Whether you’re listening from Spain, North America, or across the globe, this episode will make you feel like family — like a fellow Fish Bagger learning to walk with God one imperfect, joy-filled step at a time. So grab your headphones, take a deep breath, and let’s dive in. This one’s real, raw, and exactly what you need to start your year grounded in grace, laughter, and deep perspective.
